Oslo – CONCENTRATED SHOPPING

Karl Johan

Oslo is Norway’s capital and its largest city. In size and population, Oslo is a small city compared with other European capitals. Oslo’s advantage is that most of the shopping lies within a 2 kilometre radius. Oslo’s main street, most of which is pedestrianised, runs from the Royal Palace right through the centre, ending at Oslo Central Station, which is the city’s transport hub. Karl Johan is Norway’s prime shopping street, with many well-known retail chains and concepts.

Norway is different Norway is in the midst of its fastest ever population growth, in percentage terms the fastest in Europe. Unemployment is low: only 3%. Steady growth in real incomes combined with long-term low interest rates are increasing buying power. The Norwegian economy is oil-based and the state has sound long-term finances. All of this makes the Norwegian consumer attractive to foreign concepts and brands.

KARL J OH A N S GATE – A RTE RY B ETWEEN OSLO WEST A N D T HE NEW OSLO EA ST

O

ur property at Karl Johans gate 6b is situated in the lower part of Oslo’s main street, directly opposite the Arkaden shopping centre. This part of Oslo city centre is a gateway to Bjørvika, the new city within a city. There will be around 5,000 residential units, approx. 20,000 new jobs (primarily within finance) and several restaurants and cultural attractions in the new city, all within a 5 minute walk of the lower part of Karl Johans gate. The new Opera House in Bjørvika is already a major attraction and both tourists and local inhabitants find their way to Bjørvika to take a look. Oslo Central Station, which is situated between Bjørvika and Karl Johans gate, is Oslo’s main traffic hub with trains/airport express trains, Oslo Metro, trams and buses. Thousands of people pass through here daily.

Karl Johan

Another area adjacent to Karl Johans gate is Kvadraturen. Here you will find several shops, restaurants, hotels and residential dwellings that have made the area more attractive.
