Oliver Cassell
1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them? I feel like I have progress more as a designer during this module than any other point on my degree so far, I have learned a lot about how important a product range is not only for the designer to earn more money but for the client to expand his brand into more, I have had a lot of fun experimenting with different new ideas incorporating different techniques such as laser cutting, I have began to think about what a brand could be over all as apposed to how it could look, I feel by trying different approaches to things like business cards by using wood I have been able to push my self further, in terms of product range I tried my best to come up with as much as was necessary for my client and his practice.
2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process? I have included different finishes as I stated earlier such as laser cutting, I found that once I got in to the wood work environment ideas began to flow, I need to make sure in future I go to the places that most represent my clients to get a better feel of how they work and how their environment functions in order to better my designs and design more appropriately, if I hadn始t have gone to laser cutting I don始t think my project would have taken off anything like it did and I would be stuck with the same issues I usually have.
3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these? My main strengths this time have been researching and getting into the right mind set for specific briefs, I have found that this time I have got more involved with whatever the brief at hand was and completed more primary research in order to get more personal ideas flowing.
4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future? Time management has definitely been a weakness, no way near as bad as itʼs been in the past but it still came back to hinder me a few points in this module, I just need to apply myself to a brief as soon as itʼs set, unfortunately I again didnʼt book a print slot and ended up printing on my own printer, now although this has nothing to do with how my work rate was it still meant my work wasnʼt printed to a great standard, meaning I had put all my effort into the designs and let myself and my designs down.
5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?
1 – Book a print slot weeks in advance 2 – Stay later after college more often 3 – Do more primary research 4 – Speak to my peers about my work more regularly.
6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas: (please indicate using an ʻxʼ) 5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor 1 Attendance Punctuality Motivation

/ Commitment / Quantity of work produced / Quality of work produced / Contribution to the group The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
