UNIVERSIT Y OF CAMBRIDGE ARCHITECTURE SOCIET Y 2015 - 16 Who We Are & Our Summer Exhibition For more information please contact: Oliver Baldock olb21@cam.ac.uk or Paul Glade peg23@cam.ac.uk
ABOUT US & THE 2015 EXHIBITION Arcsoc is the University of Cambridge Architecture Society, led by students of the BA Tripos in Architecture. We are an entirely student-run initiative, whose efforts each year culminate in our annual exhibition held in London. This unique public presentation, visited by professional architects, academics, the design press, and families and friends, is completely funded by money that Arcsoc raises through sponsorship and events. Throughout the year we organise talks, music events, lifedrawing classes, film screenings and pavilion construction to both raise funds for our Summer Exhibition, and enrich the students and local community’s lifestyles. Each year we are supported by the generous donations of sponsors to help make our Summer Exhibition an outstanding showcase of student curation and design. For our 2015 exhibition we were very excited to be able to work with Alex Schweder on the Push Me Pull You installation looking at the work / life balance of both architecture students and architects in general.
The Summer Exhibition aims to show work representative of the high standards of the school and the many talents of its students through the presentation of models, videos, visualisations, technical drawing and other artworks. Throughout the duration of the exhibition we stage panel discussions and other events to complement each year’s work. Our Summer Exhibition is always held in London, most recently in Bloomsbury, Farringdon, Battersea and in 2015, Brick Lane.
THE 2016 EXHIBITION In each venue we have transformed the space in innovative ways, bringing the design skills we learn throughout the academic year to a live project that we oversee from conception to disassembly. This year we attempt to go one step further and make this not just an exhibition of our work but a show of a step forward in architecture, showing that the way of thinking within our department keeps up with the fast pace of the changing urban environments in our city. In 2016 we will be exhibiting at the OXO Bargehouse on the Southbank which provides us with a series of really appealing spaces over many floors. More importantly, at street level we’ll have an enormous amount of footfall, an aspect we found incredibly useful in engaging with the general public when situated in Brick Lane last year.
With last year’s collaboration with the artist Alex Schweder being such a success, this year we have talked with Alex Chinneck, an innovative London based artist to possibly produce another ambitious and interactive experience in order to take advantage of the exterior spaces on offer at the Bargehouse. This year the exhibition will run from the 14-17th July with lectures, tours and drawing classes scheduled throughout that period. With a minimum attendance of 400 at our opening night, including a mix of alumni, architects and other visiting professionals, and with the exhibition open all day during the running period there are plenty of opportunities for our sponsors to advertise as explained overleaf. This year we are also hoping to build longer term links with our sponsors and help provide them with more of a connection to the department and the university as a whole.

We are also very interested in companies who may be able to offer us useful resources rather than financial donations. This may range from providing timber for the construction of our exhibition to access to vans enabling us to transport our work from Cambridge to London.
