How does the structure of the walls compare to that of the pavement? Should the two interact? Does the building influence the street and can the two interact other than the spillage of shops and restaurants on to the street. What about the building rather than just it’s contents?
Looking into how these connections interact with the pavement surface and how it either is broken through or rearrange to accomodate buildings and street furniture.

ITERATION 03
Central Core Lift Shaft Rises through all floors to concert hall
The Concert Hall Positioned at the top of the building with the shape defining the structure of the rest of the site, the concert hall is accessef from the side and isolated from the heart of the building which is the music school, the individual within the community.
The External Envelope The Facade which breaks down with the building inside to interract with the community
Recording Studio Acoustically seperated and with heavier walls than the rest of the building the recording studio makes the most use out of it’s position underground.
Offices This floor includes offices surrounding the running of the school, still visually connected to the everyday activities of the space but seperated enough to allow administrative activities to occur.
Meeting Rooms The acoustically seperated structure breaks out from the void of the main building and provides the more formal facilities of the building. At this level, there are meeting rooms regarding the business of the concert hall.
The Music School | King’s Cross | York Road Tube Station
This also serves as the main entrance into the building and the school in particular.
Underground: Public Space / Music School More exposed performacne spaces directly connected to the bar and the kitchen in order to expose performers to an audience in a more ifnormal setting. The walls of the rooms can slide back to reveal these spaces and provide an impromptu space for the students to work in.
The two classrooms sit at the front of the building using the floor gradient to create raked seatings and two smaller performance spaces. The visitor is forced to walk round and experience both voids on their journey through the building.
Ground Floor: The Music School Access provided to a number of different sized performance spaces. These spaces cluster around the public void looking down into the main space or step back from the private void providing some privacy for the performers.
First Floor: The running of the concert hall Green room and facilities for performers alongside the office space for those running the concert hall. The first glimpse of the two voids in the building, one more public and one more private to help bring light in and carry sound through the building.
