Sumatra

7.30 am: The adventure begins, the long trek from the airport to Palm Oil country. We jump in a deshevelled van with a native man, who speaks limited English, within a very short period of time the airport becomes a distant memory, we are now entering rural Sumatra

8.19 am Our driver constantly stops the van on the side of the road, too quickly duck in out and out of shops. We not sure what he is looking for, but it appears that the really needs it.

10.07 am: Sumatra is far removded from the industrilatization of West Java. Children ride in the trailers of trucks. It is not uncommon to see a whole family pilled onto one motorbike.

11.13am: The further and further we get out, the made roads slowly turn into rocks and then mud. Buildings turn into tin shanties. We are now getting closer to the Jungle and further away from “cilvilization

12.05pm Extremely jetlagged and tired, the van comes to a stop, we are quickly ushered out onto the side of the road, twoIndonesian men on motorcycles grab our bags and tell us to jump on. We quickly do as we are told and next thing we know were are flying alongside a river thruogh a shanty village. People stare in amazment, as I assume, they dont get westerners around here often

12.27 pm: Just shy of a 5 hour journey we arrive at the hut we will be sleeping in., there are holes in the walls, which an array of jungle creature can crawl into our room, this is minor set back as we have our own personal waterfall outside the southern most facing window. There is no time to rest, we put our big bags down, jump into another 4WD and we go exploring Palmoil country before it gets too dark.

12.00pm: The deeper we get into the jungle the friendlier people get.

1.05pm: The motorbike is the transport of choice out here

1.30pm We edge further and further into the jungle.

2.00pm We pass the local school children on their way home

2.30pm: Arrival at Elephant Sanctary, in the middle of the Palm Oil country.

4.00pm No words can accurately describe the natural beauty of Sumatra
