When the UK decided to leave the EU, it left me feeling vunerable, you may ask why but it goes back to the fact that my blood, history and all sense of culture goes back to South America! Its not a part of Europe you may say, so why are you bringing up this point, but my blood goes all the way to the Spanish inquisition of South America! Ever since the first Spanish conquistador set foot on the piece of land that would come to be called Colombia my heritage would always be half Spanish and half indigenous, so my blood contains a speck of Europe, a bridge in-between two peoples but dont think that I am proud of what the Spanish did to my ancestors but now is not the time for that subject.
The EU is an important part of the modern world, preventing wars and allowing trade, now when the U.K decided out I realised that I had lost a great part of the world, what if I wanted to live or study outside of the U.K? Some say it's good and some say it's bad but we will see where this takes us, perhaps we will have a great future and the U.K. will prevail or perhaps the UK will enter a never ending spiral into chaos and destruction because greatness doesn't last forever, what rises must descend and maybe it's time for the UK. We are balancing on a knifes edge. The vote to leave Europe was but a final stamp on the already perforated sheet of ice that is British society. All that has been achieved is division. The division of political parties. The division of Cities and Towns. But worst of all the division of Families and Friends. Now more than ever we need to unite. Unite with our fellow Europeans. From a European point of view, Brexit is good. The UK has always been a major obstacle to a long-term plan of European integration. They always voted against the ideas of common politics, common tax system, common pension schemes, common army, common economic policies, common education etc. Europe as a whole is the world's biggest market, the biggest economy, the biggest and most vibrant pool of artists, musicians, languages, cultures. We belong together, together we can achieve the unthinkable. The UK won't be on our way any more, and that makes our European dream a tiny bit more likely to become real. London. Of all the jaw-droppingly beautiful cities across Europe, London isn't certainly one of the
most good-looking ones. The weather is shit, the people aren't very warm, the food is terrible, everything is outrageously expensive and the overall quality of life is terrible. All of this, without an inch of Paris' romance, Venice's magic, Barcelona's freshness, Rome's history, Prague beauty, and the list goes on. What makes London special and unique in the world, is the whole world itself being part of it. Nowhere else you get the same mixture of languages, cultures, habits, smells, products, food, colours, sounds and religions. All living together, mixing up in the city's neighborhoods, without any trace of ghettos or minority-only areas, anywhere. This integration is unbelievable, it is THE reason why I love London.
The Brexit vote goes in the opposite direction. It creates boundaries, it builds up walls and divisions, it makes the racists (that are very much part of the English society) think the whole Country is with them, making them stronger. Now, this is how Brexit, even if it won't happen before at least 3 years, already affected my life: the city I live in, suddenly lost a big portion of what made it so special.
