SYNOPSIS Four adults are trapped in a surreal playroom - an infantile setting, which has caused them to regress to childhood. They play games with each other, each more dangerous than the last, until their nightmare becomes reality, when one of them calls for Mummy to intervene.
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT Grounded explores what happens when people have nothing but their primal instincts to contend with. Their emotions, which in the real world would have been hidden beneath social convention becomes, in this surreal space, the only thing they have to form relationships with each other. Being children again essentially strips the characters to their core, forcing them into their most vulnerable states. This inverse ‘Lord of the Flies’ effect drew me to the story, and I became mesmerised with the idea of bringing this to life.
