If a pen is a “writing instrument,” the Globe Theatre is on your travel bucket list or you love language, then you might be an aspiring E nglish major.

No matter if it’s Mozart or Mendelssohn who inspires you, music is your passion.

You’ll read epics about ancient warriors and modern heroes. You’ll study saints and sinners. You’ll meet women who defied every restriction society could throw at them, and you’ll get to know people and worlds you never, ever dreamed you’d meet. In short, you’ll wallow in the grace and power of the English l anguage. Our graduates have found careers as t echnical writers and linguists, book editors and n ovelists, and much more.

What deeply motivates you to break out your Moleskine journal?

Our graphic design major integrates traditional studio skills with digital design and the Adobe Creative Suite — the industry standard software for typography, layout and image editing.

Graduates will work in advertising, publishing and illustration fields.

Possible career tracks include travel writing, screenwriting, activist blogging, fiction and non-fiction writing, and more. The writing major is designed as a double major or to pursue multiple minors in order to be prepared for specialized w riting positions such as science writing or political writing.

Visual Arts Yes, that’s right; essentially it’s college credit to “get your Da Vinci on.” You’ll be drawing on your imagination, painting and framing what a successful creative career looks like as a visual artist.

A studio-oriented major with an emphasis on drawing and a realism philosophy, our faculty will train you to draw figuratively at a professional level. The studio is a workshop and apprenticeship atmosphere, as faculty often work alongside students on their own creative pieces.

Information is the life-blood of every sector of business. Seeing the crucial relationships between data points keeps decision-making on point.

After a successful venture in roadside lemonade sales and the clear title of family Monopoly champion, you knew you wanted more. Maybe even CEO?

This major prepares students for rewarding careers as underwriters, claims adjusters, agents or brokers in an insurance organization. The program provides students with the knowledge and experience to be a strong part of an insurance organization immediately upon graduation.

Insurance business analysts serve as the bridge between the information systems department and other departments for insurance companies. The analyst must remain aware of the changes and trends in the insurance industry and the impact of these changes on their company.

Thinking creatively and analytically, you will combine courses and activities related to the nature and operation of businesses. You will develop strong collaborative project skills by working with case studies representing situations you may face on the job and work oneon-one with faculty to create a course portfolio to meet your goals.

Business grinds to a screeching halt without people who excel at Excel — statistical superheroes who make the cash count and keep the cash flowing.

For students with an analytical nature and love of technology, the information technology (IT) field is the perfect place to find a rewarding career. Information technology management majors study both business and computer science courses, including accounting, management, web design and development, network programming and more.

The computer science major focuses on both theory and practice. Students learn the fundamentals through courses like software engineering and statistics, whereas elective courses provide the opportunity to explore advanced topics.

The major provides a foundation for a career in technology or entry into a graduate program in computer science.

Accountants are actively involved in financial data and work with other top executives in decision-making and problem-solving activities. Pursuing an accounting major will help you develop strong technical and professional skills and will prepare you for career success in public or corporate accounting, taxation, management, financial analysis and consulting.

You like to challenge people to go big o r stay home. To do one more rep, one m ore set, one more lap. Maybe counting c alories or counting steps is your deal. O r maybe you were just born with a s ilver whistle in your mouth?

Prepare for graduate school or careers in physical therapy, occupational therapy, cardiac/respiratory tech or athletic training, to name a few. This major is designed to build your decision-making and organizational skills, knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and your ability to recognize the potential for longterm injuries and help those who have sustained them recover.

This program will prepare you for a career as a fitness center director, athletic coach, fitness programmer or sports marketing specialist, to name a few.

You’ll graduate with a strong science foundation and great written and verbal communication skills.

Sports Psychology Optimizing life. It’s that simple. Knowing how our physiology, anatomy, nutrition, exercise, core strength and other metrics affect our performance is crucial to coaching athletes, personal training and educating anyone recovering from or wanting to prevent future injury.

A lot of things can throw off the game and the groove of stellar athletes.

Getting inside their head and keeping them focused may win you the MVP. By understanding the psychology associated with human movement, students will specialize in the strategies for achieving peak performance. The sports psychology major prepares those seeking careers in coaching, wellness/sport management, life skills programming and physical rehabilitation.

Sports and Recreation Management You are right at home in a world of clipboards, chalk-talks and choice motivational words. You’ll be at your best calling others to be at theirs.

What do CSI , soil alkalinity and t he secret recipe for Coca-Cola™ h ave in common? They all rely o n chemists and covalent bonds.

The biochemistry major provides education in inorganic, organic, biological, analytical and physical chemistries, along with essential training for those students seeking medical or graduate school.

The chemistry program is essential training to enter medical or graduate school in many of the sciences. The chemistry major with a forensic science minor is excellent preparation for those interested in pursuing a career in crime scene investigation.

From the ant farm to that chicken-wire volcano with the gravy-gray lava, you’ve always been a researcher. Now it’s time to earn the lab coat and even prepare for that Ph.D. in DNA, ASAP.

Actuarial Science Every business leader wants to know the future and evaluate the inherent risks in decisions. You can become the statistical equivalent of a crystal ball.

Created in response to the corporate world’s growing demand for actuaries, who evaluate the likelihood of events and plan for the financial consequences of risk, this degree provides students with the foundational knowledge to p repare for the actuarial exams administered by the Society of Actuaries and the C asualty Actuarial Society.

A strong foundation for medical or graduate school, biology students have hands-on field experience at Olivet’s own Kirkelldel Biological Preserve, a research station with a large collection of specimens and habitats including fossils, minerals, rocks, mollusk shells, animals and insects.

Rapidly increasing workforce demands offer opportunities for high-earning careers in b usiness, industry and government within mathematical contexts. The mathematics major can help you prepare for a professional science master’s or doctoral program in mathematics a s well.

This major is useful for anyone entering the e nvironmental field, including the areas of c onservation, research, administration, e nvironmental education, government, industry and environmental health. It can easily be paired with a second major or a minor in areas such as biology, chemistry, biochemistry, business or sociology/anthropology.

Whether you discover you align more with Freud, Jung or Kierkegaard, the human mind is a vast frontier still being explored and mapped.

You’ll be introduced to advanced research, writing and social science research methods. A major in history provides excellent preparation for law school, government work, foreign service and various service industries and institutions.

Students are encouraged to think critically about human behavior, to respect the complexity and diversity of individuals, and to explore the many applications of psychology essential to helping, understanding and furthering people’s positive change and development.

Our society needs ethical and moral citizens — brave men and women willing to protect and defend moral and social justice from all that would undermine it.

This is a major for the peacemakers, unifiers, diplomats and negotiators — students wanting to promote mutual understanding and positive change in the world.

This major focuses on crime prevention and the reduction of violence in society.

Students examine the causes of violence and crime, including moral and social factors, while taking into account the role of pathology, socialization, employment and community support. Our instructors have decades of combined professional experience in police work, prisons, crime scene investigation and more.

Sociology and anthropology majors receive a solid grounding in social theory in their first year, then apply these concepts in thematic courses, practicums and research experiences.

Students examine issues in cultural pluralism and diversity, which prepares them for c areers in social work, community relations, advocacy and more.

Around here, homework can include bringing felons to justice — helping local agencies solve cold cases that, after decades, are still not solved.

Criminal justice is among our largest majors, and Olivet College is one of the few institutions nationwide to offer a cold case course or forensic science minor.

Olivet College competes in the oldest intercollegiate conference in the nation, the MIAA, and in the NCAA DIII. Our student-athletes compete not for financial reward, but because they are driven to be at their best, play for the love of the game, and accomplish and be more together as a team.

College is “home” for four years and that’s what we w ant it to feel like. A significant part of the first-year e xperience is the new independence of moving in to the residence halls and enjoying friends, r oommates and community. Home is also about feeling safe in a new place and feeling welcome t o find your way over to the Kirk Center when you need to do some serious noshing.

All residential students are required to have a meal plan which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, Monday through Friday, and brunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday. The plan also includes Comet Cash, which can be used at the Starbucks Café at Mott.

Campus Safety Olivet College is deeply committed to the safety of our students. Our Campus Safety Office is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Security cameras are located in s trategic locations across campus and our safety officers regularly patrol our facilities.

Campus Safety works closely with the City of Olivet Police Department and the E aton County Sheriff’s Department, which has a remote office located in Olivet’s MacKay Gymnasium.

Shipherd Hall

Dole Hall houses 128 students in single, double, triple and quad rooms. Dole is also home to the College’s admissions and administrative wings. The hall features a TV room, computer lab and laundry facilities.

Shipherd Hall houses 296 students in suitestyle rooms that share a bathroom. All rooms are doubles. F irst-year students reside on the first floor in wings s eparated by gender.

Shipherd also features a computer lab, study rooms and laundry facilities.

Blair Hall

Gillette Student Village

Blair Hall houses 153 men in single, double and triple rooms. It has community bathrooms on each floor, which are cleaned daily. Blair also features a computer lab and recreation room l ocated on the first floor and a l aundry room on the lower level.

There are nine townhouses available in Gillette, with each unit holding four single bedrooms, two full baths, a living room, a kitchen and a basement with laundry facilities. Each unit comes furnished with bedroom and living room furniture and kitchen appliances.

Students who pledge a Greek society or are members of another society on campus will have the chance to live in one of the College’s theme houses.

Sophomore through senior status students m ay qualify to live off campus in one of our two apartment-style housing complexes.

Every year, Olivet College students disband from classes to take responsibility for their community across the street and our neighbors around the country. They offer themselves in service, where helping hands and humble spirits are needed most.

In doing so, they validate their classwork through these worthy humanitarian efforts. Want to roll up your sleeves and help?

Here are just some of the places we’ve served in Michigan: Battle Creek — organized donations and packaged supplies with the South Central Michigan Food Bank.

De Tour Village — volunteered with students in the local school district, built a walking trail on a nature preserve.

Drummond Island — volunteered with students in the local school district.

Flint — delivered clean water during the water crisis.

Lansing — provided lunch for the homeless.

Olivet — partnered with the Princess Ali Foundation to make care packages for children in hospitals, crafted blankets for Project Linus.

Deer Lodge, Tennessee — annual partnership with the Morgan Scott Project to distribute food resources and “build your own garden” kits, various construction projects.

Holly Hill, Florida — rebuilt the roof of a widow’s home that was damaged by a hurricane.

New Orleans, Louisiana, and Houston, Texas — performed disaster relief efforts focusing on residential areas and homes after storms and flooding.

Wilmington, North Carolina — rebuilt the fellowship hall of a church that was damaged by a hurricane.

Multiple opportunities exist for OC students to study abroad and see the world, with new itineraries being added every year. That means you can earn credit toward your degree while having a life-changing experience abroad.

Students often take advantage of travel opportunities during the Intensive Learning Term (ILT). The ILT is a unique set of course offerings hosted each spring in the three weeks following the end of the regular spring semester. Students enroll for only one course during this period. Courses often cover special topics, and many are paired with a global learning experience. There are also opportunities for semester-long trips.

Once the FAFSA has been processed, you will receive an official award letter, which will include all scholarships and federal aid you are eligible for.
