DANI MCKENZIE CLOSE TO HOME Gallery artist Dani McKenzie proudly presents 'Close to Home', an exhibition of new paintings. Here, McKenzie looks to the now as the source of her photographic subjects—having previously sought found or vintage imagery. Of this departure the artist notes, “Over the past two years, the whole world has changed, and I have needed different things from my practice as a result. I am still painting strangers, but these are not people that I am connecting to from the past. They are people in my community, who are sharing my experiences.” Included in the exhibition are ten works on linen or board and a selection of painted studies on paper. McKenzie will, for the first time, display compositions of an immense scale, some stretching two metres in width. These dynamic offerings are built of distinct layers of paint—a further departure from the wet-on-wet brushwork of the artist’s previous showings.
