The Home Instead Senior Care network is launching Caring for Your Parents: Education for the Family Caregiver®. This family caregiver support series addressessenior resistance to care and features a variety of topics to help the family caregiver such as RECOGNIZ I NG THE SIGNS OF AGING This workshop will help adult children identify signs that their elderly loved one needs help. Ignoring these warning signs will likely lead to the kind of dependence that they are trying to avoid. This workshop will provide some easily identifiable signs to look for including physical symptoms and mental or emotional changes, loss of attention signals and environmental clues.

COMMUN ICAT IO N ISSUES This workshop focuseson positive, constructive and healthy conversations between seniors and their adult children. Understanding these differences and learning to manage them can result in positive, constructive and healthy conversations between seniors and their adult children.

LONG DISTANCE CAREGIV I NG While long distance caregiving does present some challenges, it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. This workshop will introduce a number of strategies and ideas to support the long distance caregiving process.First, we’ll help you determine if your senior loved ones are exhibiting signs that they need care or just a little assistance.

HOW TO SELECT AN IN- HOME CARE PROVIDER In many casesit may not be necessary to move your parents into a nursing home or assisted living facility. This workshop will help determine when home care is needed by giving you the warning signs to look for. We’ll also share some pointers on how to have a conversation with your parents about the need for extra care and exactly what roles these professional caregivers play.

HOW TO COMMUN I CATE WITH HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS During this workshop, attendeeswill learn the importance of older adults having strong communication with their healthcare providers, as well as the various legal forms and documents needed to assure one’s medical wishes will be met.

HOW TO PROVIDE IN- HOME CARE IN A RECESSION During this workshop, attendeeswill learn about less expensive housing options for older adults, while understanding the benefits and services provided by senior centers and adult day care centers. Finance options for care beyond traditional insurance coverage, as well as tips on how to create a team approach to providing care, will also be covered.

HOW TO HELP YOUR PARENTS WITH THE IR FINANCES In this workshop, we share how to help your senior loved one manage his/her finances and prevent them from becoming a target of fraud. This workshop is designed for anyone who is caring for an elderly person be it a parent, other relative or friend.

DEALI NG WITH COGNIT I V E ISSUES In this workshop, we inform anyone who is caring for an elderly person be it a parent, other relative or friend. Attendeeswill learn how to recognize symptoms of cognitive problems; learn what might be causing them and methods for how to cope with a loved one who is suffering with these problems.

SIBLING COMMUN I CAT IO N AND THE 50-50 RULE SM In this workshop we introduce the 50-50 RuleSM —practical support services to help adult siblings improve communication skills, develop teamwork, make decisions together and divide the workload in caring for aging parents

CAREGIVER STRESS AND WAYS TO AVOID BURNOUT In this workshop we addressthe stress of being a caregiver and ways to cope. This series is designed for anyone who is caring for an elderly person be it a parent, other relative or friend. The information in this workshop will introduce you to the extent of caregiver stress, signs that stress might be affecting you and dealing with special caregiving considerations.

HOW TO BALANCE WORK AND IN- HOME CARE In this workshop, we talk about how to balance work and in-home care. This video is designed for anyone who is caring for an elderly person be it a parent, other relative or friend. The information in this workshop will give you some tools to use in caregiving, at work, and for yourself in order to help you find balance in your life.
