“He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.” (Deuteronomy 32:4) “Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.” (Psalm 32:2)
as the scripture above points out, involves a spirit of deceit! This is why Jesus gave this command to the disciples: “ Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.” (Luke 21:8) Earlier Jesus had already warned them about these kinds of people: any of us are familiar with the important truth that God forgives “Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in our sins through Jesus Christ. He died to long robes, and love greetings in the markets, save us from Satan and sin, but how many and the highest seats in the synagogues, and of us understand that he also saves us the chief rooms at feasts;which devour widows’ from our iniquities? Can you think of any religion that says and looks like these two warnings? Yes, there are many today but chiefly the mother of all such harlots of truth is the Roman Catholic Religion! Jesus was describing these people who claim to have and even be Christ in the earth, they dress in robes and people follow them because of their hidden power and manipulative teachings. To those who do not understand what iniquity is and why Jesus was warning against this, it seems a harsh thing to say, but as you read on you will realise that they are themselves deceived by Satan! In the Old Testament of the 11 words translated ‘iniquity,’ by far the most common and important is ‘awon’ (about 215 times). Etymologically (origins), it is customary to explain it as meaning literally ‘crookedness,’ ‘perverseness’, i.e. evil regarded as that which is not straight or upright, moral distortion (from ‘iwwah’, ‘to bend’, ‘make crooked’, ‘pervert’). Driver, however (following Lagarde), maintains that two roots, distinct in Arabic, have been confused in Hebrew, one equals ‘to bend’, ‘pervert’ (as above), and the other equals ‘to err’, ‘go astray’; that ‘awon’ is derived from the latter, and consequently expresses the idea of error, deviation from the right path, rather than that of perversion. Whichever etymology is adopted, in actual usage it has three meanings which almost imperceptibly pass into each other; pervert, go astray, error. So we see that iniquity is more about making something that was once straight crooked or perverted from the truth. This understanding also translates into the New Testament Greek writings of Paul and the apostles. In Galatians 1 Paul says this:

“I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel---which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert (metastrepsai) the gospel of Christ.” (Galatians 1:6-7) (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance: pervert, turn. From meta and strepho; to turn across, i.e. Transmute or (figuratively) corrupt -- pervert, turn.) From these Hebrew and Greek definitions we see that ‘iniquity’ is to be understood differently from ‘sin’ (trespass) as ‘iniquity’ specifically relates to a deliberate ‘perversion’ or ‘distortion’ of the truth, a ‘going astray’ after idols and false teaching. Sin on the other hand relates more to the yielding of the flesh to lusts and unrighteousness against your neighbour. Jesus himself said that this distorting of truth was seen in the Pharisaical Jewish leaders, but is something that both Jesus and Paul realised would one day penetrate the true Gospel. “How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees? Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.” (Matthew 16:11-12) In most cases this ‘iniquity’ or perverting of God’s truth in Christ (The Rock) is the ‘paganising’ and/or ‘Judaising’ of the Gospel of freedom back to ‘law’ and ‘works’ for justification (legalism). ‘Sin’ (Greek: hamartias), on the other hand, more often relates to personal unrighteousness and evil behaviour

towards others (neighbour). This word is often better translated as ‘trespass’ which better conveys the idea of affecting another such as tresspassing on another property or person. It’s an invasion of someone else’s privacy and life. For example, you can reject God by worshipping an idol (which is actually demonology or spiritism) which is iniquity, but you cannot murder God (although they tried!), whereas you can sin and murder a another human (as did Cain).You can steal from another person, but you cannot steal from God, who owns all things. Hence we have the Royal Law of ‘Love God’ and ‘Love your neighbour’ to prevent both these errors (James 2:7-9). This differentiation between these two is very important to understand, in order to avoid being deceived into a false sense of security, in our own self righteousness or works of law, for justification. Many people will say that they love their neighbour and wish them no harm, however they may well be guilty of iniquity, denying God and Christ as Lord.You need both to be a follower of Christ and of God. We also see the distinction between sin and iniquity in many other places in Scripture. “Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation. And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding. At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision. Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the

transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.” (Dan 9:21-24) This passage reveals the first coming of Jesus Christ who brought everlasting righteousness making an end of sins and reconciliation for false idol worship (iniquity). Jesus also sealed up (fulfilled) vision and prophecy being anointed by the Spirit. This is also described by Isaiah. “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” (Isa 53:5) As well as post Temple Judaism, all false religion such as Roman Catholiscism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism etc. is considered ‘iniquitous’ as they claim to be the spiritual truth for salvation for this life and or the next (as they perceive it). These ‘faiths’ have perverted the truth of God’s spoken Word and set up alternative rules of conduct (law) to justify their behaviour in order to gain an advantage. This means that they still feel justified even if they blaspheme God, his Word or their fellow man by their words and pagan rituals. Unfortunately these rituals are not recognised by the Almighty God as any solution to their crime against Him and their allegiance to Satan. Their religious ‘rituals’ and traditions have no relation to the example of Christ, whom we must know and emulate. These ‘false teachings’ do not prevent them from continuing in secret evil thoughts, sinful behaviour or uncleaness and as such they are hypocrites, saying one thing, but doing another. For example Islam will say it is for peace, but most wars and terrorism are carried out in the name of Islam? Roman

Catholicism says that they believe the Scripture and yet they pray to dead saints, statues and change the Word of God to suit themselves. (see https://www.jesus-islord.com/tencomma.htm) Thus these subtle (and not so subtle) deceptions permit the violation of God’s revealed commands on many levels and as a result this leads to curses and judgement similar to those seen in the history of Israel and Egypt (see Exodus 7). God allows this to reveal to the world that He alone is the one true God as he tries to get their attention in order to save sinners. Iniquity does away with what the Bible calls living in ‘the fear of the Lord’. This is not fear as in ‘phobos’ (Greek - afraid), but rather fear as in ‘Yirah’ (Hebrew - Respect) meaning respect or awe. “Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.” (Psa 86:11). Iniquitous religious leaders often explain away their calamity, sickness and judgment on an individual’s failure to obey the rules and laws of it’s own rituals, these deceived person’s are driven by this guilt to ‘do better’ and often look for hope in the many superstitions such as good and bad luck, ying and yang etc. They will

often make ‘offerings’ to idols, in order to appease their false ‘gods’ to quieten their anger. However, as Paul also points out, they are actually worshipping devils that are a part of Satan’s deceptive kingdom (1 Tim 4:1-3). Guilt is therefore used to manipulate emotions and motives to the benefit of those who officiate the religion at the top of the hierarchy (usually a false priesthood). Any forgiveness must be bought or earned for ‘ordinary’ people to be justified (as in RC indulgences or hail Mary’s, the compulsory tithing of money in Protestant circles, church membership and attendance at Mass etc. etc.). These sorts of distortions of truth and reality, even (and especially) of true Christian beliefs, is an abomination in God’s sight. In these final ages (since Christ) the perversion of truth has led to multiple ‘denominations’ and ‘cults’ (especially since the 17th & 18th Centuries) that are now prevalent in all modern cultures. These hierarchical divisions are iniquitous and not founded on a true relationship with Jesus as the only Lord (Matt 23:8; Eph 4:5-6). He himself warned those who where seeing and hearing him, that even if you’re involved in ministry it can’t save you, if you are also sharing in

their iniquity! You must know him by the Spirit in Truth and obedience to His Words regarding church and the Kingdom (Matt 7:22-23). Their prayers will go unanswered, but even then they do not wake up and question the system they are in! “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me” (Psa 66:18) False gospels are promoted by ‘wolves in sheeps clothing’, in order that they might appear holy and boast about how many followers they have. We are all familiar with this terminology, but it does not seem to register with those who remain in such organisations. The false leaders also look to benefit from the sheep materially through financial gain, and take a position of importance not sanctioned in scripture such as Senior Pastor, Priest, Father, Vicar, Curate, Leader, Master etc. Jesus redefined what true spiritual leadership is, not modelled on the hierarchical world, but on him alone! We are called to live only by obedience to the Spirit and the Word as given by Jesus and not to any man-made ideas.
Who will save us? The Gospel declares that man has no remedy for his sinful and iniquitous tendencies and needs God’s external intervention. This supernatural intervention is both undeserved and out of man’s control, being freely supplied by the mercy of God’s love. The Father GAVE his Son to save the world as a FREE GIFT. Iniquity in Christianity is where this free gift is distorted or sold for profit through manipulative false teaching. The false gospel perversions can have a very powerful appearance of ‘doing good’, but

closer inspection reveals the serious error of iniquity. As Paul clearly teaches just one serious error ruins the whole lump! “For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love. Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you. A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be.” (Gal 5:9, see also 1 Corin 5:6). It’s possible that individuals can have the appearance of a pious and even ‘holy’ life and yet, because they submit to false teaching and rituals (offerings / prayers to false deities) they are blind and unwittingly guilty of iniquity. These rituals have often become cultural norms in modern society and are accepted from childhood as normal by subsequent generations. Rituals such as ‘going to church services’, such as ‘Christmas’, ‘Easter’, ‘Halloween’, Sunday Sabbath keeping etc. none of which are commanded by Jesus or the apostles. This means that they are false no matter how precious they seem to us. Even the old testament feasts and rituals have been completed by Christ’s glorious new work of grace. Although good for then, they are now not necessary to please God (1 Corin 5:8; Phil 3:7-8; Heb 8:13, 9:10, 10:9). Then there are also many overtly pagan rituals throughout the year created by deceived men. Satan himself deceiving them into occult practices to gain demonic entrance into them, including things such as ‘winter solstice’, pagan feasts, Satanic ritual abuse of children and even the obsession with shopping and fashion, so called ‘retail therapy’! (Matt 6:32). Jesus

puts an end to ALL religious rituals and works for justification, plus he paid the debt for the iniquity of pagan idol worship and witchcraft through the cross! “Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.” (Heb 10:9) “In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.” (Heb 8:13) If you cannot accept what these verses are saying then you are probably deceived and should humbly seek the Lord. Iniquity is a very serious condition and the one which ultimately destroyed Israel as a nation under God’s rule. The problem is that these rituals unknowingly invite demons into the lives of the participants, bringing in death and corruption and ultimately Hell itself! Any nation which follows these iniquitous false doctrines (gods) will be destroyed by its evil corruption and God’s judgements. History proves this to be the case (Deut 31:18), because God hides his face from those who worship idols! If we invite the devil he comes to kill, steal and destroy! (John 10:10)

Simon pleaded for mercy and forgiveness on realising his error so we hope he did indeed repent of his evil thought. This reveals that even though he had become a Christian’ ‘iniquity’ was still binding him and causing him to think in a worldly way. This incident reveals a great deal and should concern all of us who claim to know Christ as saviour. It also should alert us to the fact that those converting from the occult and even from ‘money’ worship should be carefully trained and set free from the wrong attitudes. Paul also points this out with regard to overseers in the congregations (1 Tim 3:1-6)

arisen through this regime of fear and manipulation are the ‘false christ’s’ that both Jesus and Paul spoke of. We are living in the latter day consequences of this antichrist deception! The Greek word used for fornication is ‘porneias’ from which we get ‘pornography’. We live in a time not seen before in the history of mankind when nakedness and lewdness is portrayed across all media openly as if it was a good and normal thing. All this vanity is not appreciated by God who is bringing increasing levels of judgement in the hope that we wake up to the deception we are in. History and current events show that these masons are in fact destroying the whole earth and the creatures that God created by selling their delicacies and riches to an unsuspecting world. This destruction will have to be accounted for, as mentioned in Revelation (Rev 11:18). managed sustainably with creation in mind (Israel under God’s Laws being an example). Unfortunately we find ourselves in a negative position today because of the level of greed and corruption in the world that’s now at a global high! Despite many efforts by environmentalists the earth is groaning just as Jesus, Peter and Paul said it would (Matt 24:8; Rom 8:20-21; 2 Pet 3:7). This human corruption and devastation was foreseen by God and is why He always planned to create a new heaven and earth ‘wherein righteousness dwells’ and where sin has been physically eradicated by Jesus (Isaiah 66, Rev 21). This is the eternal hope of the Christian who can gladly suffer loss and pain in this corrupt world for the sake of being included in the next.
