I nomadi tibetani e le verdi praterie che circondano le loro tende stanno rapidamente scomparendo. La loro sparizione spezzerà per sempre quel legame tra ambiente e uomo che ha per millenni preservato il delicato equilibrio naturale dell’altopiano tibetano. Un’emergenza per la quale servono risposte rapide e interventi efficaci. Il calendario 2014 di ASIA è dedicato ai nomadi tibetani, al loro rapporto con l’ambiente e la natura e ai profondi sconvolgimenti ambientali, sociali e culturali che negli ultimi decenni hanno modificato drammaticamente il loro stile di vita. Il racconto della semplice e straordinaria quotidianità delle loro vite è affidato allo sguardo e agli scatti della fotografa, giornalista e scrittrice di viaggio Monika Bulaj che con la sua macchina ha catturato l’anima aspra e profonda dell’altopiano tibetano.
The Tibetan nomads and the green grasslands that surround their tents are rapidly disappearing. Their disappearance will sever forever the link between man and the environment that has preserved the precarious natural balance of the Tibetan plateau for thousands of years. An emergency that requires rapid responses and effective interventions. ASIA’s 2014 calendar is devoted to the Tibetan nomads, to their relationship with the environment and nature, and to the fundamental upheavals in environmental, social and cultural factors that in recent decades have dramatically changed their lifestyle. The story of their simple and extraordinary everyday lives has been entrusted to the eye and the camera shots of the photographer, journalist, and travel writer Monika Bulaj who has captured the rugged and profound essence of the Tibetan plateau.

Monika Bulaj è nata in Polonia dove ha studiato filologia polacca all’Università di Varsavia e ha frequentato corsi di antropologia, storia, biblistica e filosofia. Vive in Italia dal 1993 . Fotografa, scrittrice, documentarista, da anni viaggia in Europa dell’Est, Asia Centrale e Medio Oriente. Ha pubblicato i suoi reportage su “Repubblica”, “Corriere della Sera”, “National Geographic”, “Geo”, “Courrier International”. È autrice di diversi libri, tra i quali ricordiamo Libia Felix (2002), Gerusalemme perduta, con Paolo Rumiz (2005), Figli di Noè (2006), Rebecca e la pioggia (2007), Genti di Dio (2008) e NUR. La luce nascosta dell’Afghanistan (2013). Ha al suo attivo più di sessanta mostre in Italia e nel mondo. Ha ricevuto nel 2009 il premio Chatwin, lo “Special Award for the Photography Absolute Eye”; nel 2010 “The Aftermath Project Grant” e nel 2011 il “TED Global Fellowship”. è considerata oggi tra i reporter più interessanti del panorama internazionale. www.monikabulaj.com
Monika Bulaj was born in Poland where she studied Polish philology at the University of Warsaw and attended courses in anthropology, history, philosophy and biblistic studies. She has lived in Italy since 1993. Photographer, writer, and documentary filmmaker, she has travelled for years in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East. Her reports have been published in the “Repubblica”, “Corriere della Sera”, “National Geographic”, “Geo”, and “Courrier International”. She is the author of several books, including Libya Felix (2002), Gerusalemme perduta, with Paul Rumiz (2005), Figli di Noe (2006), Rebecca e la pioggia (2007), Genti di Dio (2008) and NUR. La luce nascosta dell’Afghanistan (2013). She has given more than sixty exhibitions in Italy and in the world.
