ARTIFICIAL NATURE ARCHITECTURE

EL objetivo es realizar una vivienda 100% sostenible y con elevado nivel bioclimático, capaz de calentarse por si misma, en climas muy fríos, con la menor ayuda posible de aditivos tecnológicos; se desea que sea desmontable y con gran inercia térmica, de bajo presupuesto y mínimo consumo energético.

La vivienda se ubica en la urbanización “Peñalar” de la ciudad de Torrelodones, en Madrid. Las temperaturas son extremas (mucho calor en verano y mucho frío en invierno), y con poca humedad. La residencia tiene dos niveles. La planta baja alberga una sala de ensayos, dos dormitorios de invitados, un baño y la sala de máquinas. La planta primera cuenta con un solo espacio -salón-comedor-cocina- y un baño. La estructura de la vivienda es extraordinariamente sencilla, y de forma triangular, debido a un equilibrio entre los condicionantes medioambientales, programáticos, del lugar y la necesidad de vistas de todas las estancias al sur de la parcela. A causa del desnivel de la parcela, la entrada principal, al norte, está en la primera planta. En cambio la planta baja tiene entrada por el sur.

The aim was to create a 100% sustainable house with a high bioclimatic level, capable of heating itself in very cold climates with as little help as possible from additional sources of technology. It also needs to be easily dismantled, have high thermal inertia, low construction costs and consume as little energy as possible.

The house is located in the “Peñalar” urbanisation in Torrelodones, in Madrid. The temperatures are extreme, very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter, with little humidity. The residence has two floors. The ground floor has a rehearsal room, two guest bedrooms, a bathroom and a machine room.

The first floor contains an open plan living-diningkitchen area and a bathroom. The triangular structure of the house is extraordinarily simple owing to a balance of environmental factors in the area and the requirement that all the rooms have a south-facing view of the plot. The uneven terrain means that the main entrance on the north side is located on the first floor. However the ground floor has an entrance on the south side.

The house can be dismantled thanks to the prefabricated supporting structure system made from double walls. Lighting is provided by LEDS, representing a saving of 90%. The house has a high bioclimatic level as air-conditioning is not needed in summer and in the winter months only electric heating is required. Casa Paula proves that electric energy is the cheapest and most environmentally friendly energy source available. The high bioclimatic level also increases the quality of the electric energy, making it four times more effective.

La vivienda se puede desmontar gracias al sistema prefabricado de estructura portante a base de muro doble. La iluminación es de leds, consiguiendo un ahorro del 90%. Es de alto nivel bioclimático pues en verano no necesita aire acondicionado y en invierno solo es necesaria calefacción eléctrica. Casa Paula demuestra que la energía eléctrica es la energía mas barata y ecológica disponible. De igual manera, éste hecho aumenta la “calidad” de la energía eléctrica, ya que la hace 4 veces mas efectiva.

6. Debido a su buen diseño, la vivienda se calienta por efecto invernadero, con el apoyo de 5 radiadores eléctricos, que se activan sólo cuando sea estrictamente necesario.

2. Los paneles correderos de lamas de madera se abren, permitiendo el acceso al interior de la vivienda de la máxima radiación solar posible.

10. Debido a los materiales elegidos, los muros transpiran de forma natural y continua, lo que permite la ventilación natural sin pérdidas energéticas.

3. Se suben los estores interiores permitiendo la entrada de la máxima cantidad de radiación solar.

4. La dimensión de los voladizos está calculada para permitir que penetre la máxima radiación solar en el interior de la vivienda en invierno y que no entre en verano.

5. Se cierra la rejilla interior para evitar que entre aire fresco en el interior de la vivienda.

La rejilla se regula para que entre solo aire de ventilación cuando sea necesario.

6. Owing to its design, the house is heating by means of the greenhouse effect and five backup electric radiators which are only switched on when entirely necessary.

Gardened roof with autochthonous species. Autochthonous species of plants from Madrid have been planted on the gardened roof of the house, which symbolizes and demonstrates that any terrain can be made 100% habitable and, at the same time, guarantee a green zone.

La cubierta vegetal de la vivienda simboliza y muestra como en cualquier terreno se puede construir con una ocupaci贸n del 100%, y al mismo tiempo, garantizar una zona verde del 100%.

The aim was to create an architectural symbol for Rio de Janeiro, inspired by some of its most highly prized cultural symbols ―such as the Carnival, Capoeira, the berimbau (a single stringed percussion instrument), beach, sea, light, etc. ― and that can be used as a communications tower and multimedia lighthouse which continuously changes its external appearance and transmits information; a visual point of reference for Rio’s beaches. The building is selfsufficient with a high degree of sustainability, industrialised and made from recoverable, repairable, reusable and recyclable components with an indefinite life cycle. A neighbouring islet close to the famous beach next to Sugar Loaf Mountain, an ever present symbol of the city, was chosen as the setting for this colossal symbol of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. As such, the building will be easily seen from land and sea, making it a permanent landmark visible from all the beaches in Rio de Janeiro and the Olympic facilities.

Se pretende crear un símbolo arquitectónico de la ciudad de Río de Janeiro, inspirado en algunos de sus referentes culturales más preciados como el Carnaval, la Capoeira, el Berimbau, la playa, el mar, la luz... que sirva de torre de telecomunicaciones y de faro multimedia que pueda cambiar continuamente su apariencia exterior y transmitir información; un referente visual de las playas de Rio. El edificio será autosuficiente, de alto nivel sostenible, industrializado y de componentes recuperables, reparables, reutilizables y reciclables, con un ciclo de vida infinito. El entorno elegido para edificar el colosal símbolo de los Juegos Olímpicos de Río de Janeiro es en un islote cercano a la famosa playa adyacente al “Pan de azúcar”, referencia inevitable de la ciudad. De este modo el edificio se ve desde cualquier lugar, y también desde el mar. con lo que se treta de una referencia permanente de todas las playas de Río de Janeiro, y de sus instalaciones olímpicas.

The berimbau was the inspiration for the final choice of building, with a slim spire supporting a sphere shaped building suspended in the air. The spire has two functions: to support the building and supply it with cool air when necessary, ensuring suitable, natural ventilation. It also houses the lighting system for the lighthouse and the multimedia system.

El edificio resultante se inspira en el Berimbau ya que una estrecha asta soporta al edificio con forma esf茅rica, suspendido en el aire. El asta tiene una doble funcionalidad: soportar el edificio y suministrarle el aire fresco que necesita, con el fin de conseguir una ventilaci贸n natural adecuada. Del mismo modo, alberga los sistemas de iluminaci贸n propios del faro y los sistemas multimedia de iluminaci贸n.

The sphere has five floors. The first floor is used for recreational purposes; the second for offices; the third floor houses a lookout point and a souvenir shop; the penultimate floor contains more offices; and the top floor has a conference room.

17. The ventilated facade partially insulates the mast of the lighthouse, preventing energy loss.

18. The air which is cooled down in the underground galleries rises through the central nucleus until it reaches the sphere.

6. El edificio está enterrado por lo que permanece a una temperatura constante en invierno y en verano.

7. El aire exterior entra en una red de galerías subterráneas donde se refresca hasta alcanzar los 18º.

8. El salón de actos está iluminado de forma natural ya que todo su perímetro es una cristalera.

9. El aire fresco penetra a través de rejillas situadas bajo los asientos y refresca el salón de actos a su paso.

10. El aire recalentado sale del salón de actos a través de las ventanas superiores.

11. La radiación solar que penetra en el salón de actos es indirecta, evitando que se caliente por efecto invernadero y proporcionando un ambiente luminoso homogéneo.

12. Entrada de aire del exterior a las galerías subterráneas.

17. La fachada ventilada mantiene parcialmente aislado el mástil del faro evitando las pérdidas energéticas del mismo.

18. El aire que se refresca en las galerías subterráneas asciende por el núcleo central hasta llegar a la esfera.

1. The heat which accumulates in the frameworks with high thermal inertia keeps the meeting room warm during the day and night without consuming any energy.

2. Gardened roof with high thermal inertia.

3. The geothermal system generates the hot air needed by the meeting room to maintain its temperature.

4. Direct solar radiation enters the meeting room, heating it by means of the greenhouse effect.

5. Hot air ventilation enters the interior of the meeting room.

6. The upper gates are partially closed, preventing hot air from escaping the interior of the building, but controlling the ventilation currents.

7. Preheated air enters the interior of the sphere.

8. The entry of air ventilation heated by the geothermal system is controlled using the gates in the floor slabs.

9. The high level of insulation in the mast (ventilated facade) guarantees that no energy is lost.

10. Hot air rises up to the sphere via the lighthouse mast.

11. The architectural geothermal system heats the ventilated air.

The building also extends out beneath the subsoil of the islet next to the spire and is occupied by offices, conference rooms and multipurpose meeting rooms.

The whole building measures 113 metres in height with a constructed surface area of 2,083.30 m2. The area inside the sphere measures 1,482.80 m2 and the underground section has a surface area of 600.50 m2.

Por otro lado, en el subsuelo del islote, al lado del asta, el edificio se prolonga de forma subterránea, albergando oficinas, salas de conferencias y salas de reuniones multifuncionales.
