Barnaby Barford is an artist who explores all aspects of our society. He is best known for his work with mass-market and antique found porcelain figurines, cutting up, exchanging elements, adding to them and repainting them, creating sculptures which are often sinister but invariably humorous.

In the tradition of Hogarth, Chaucer, and Dickens; with a dark sense of English humour and satire, Barford’s work explores and celebrates the human condition. Over the last 3 years his practice has developed, his last exhibition “The Seven Deadly Sins” saw him breaking new ground making large scale ceramic sculpture exploring sin in our contemporary world.

Barnaby Barford graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2002. He has shown his work internationally. He has been the subject of several solo exhibitions in the UK and most recently has had a solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Virginia, USA. His work is part of both public and private collections. He is currently represented

by David Gill Galleries, London. Barford has worked with museum commissions, private commissions and most recently for Louis Vuitton.

In 2008 Barford directed a unique film based on his artwork.

Damaged Goods was commissioned by Animate Projects and funded by Arts Council England and Channel4.

Barnaby Barford es un artista que explora todos los aspectos de nuestra sociedad. Se le conoce por trabajar con figuritas de porcelana antiguas que o bien se encuentra o las compra en tiendas. Las trocea, intercambia sus partes, las añade y las vuelve a pintar para crear esculturas que suelen ser siniestras pero siempre divertidas.

Siguiendo la tradición de Hogarth, Chaucer y Dickens, con un sentido del humor inglés oscuro y satírico, las obras de Barford exploran y conmemoran la condición humana.

Durante los últimos tres años, su técnica ha evolucionado y su última exposición, «The Seven Deadly Sins» (Los siete pecados capitales), demostró que había roto los esquemas al crear esculturas de cerámica a gran escala que exploraban los pecados de nuestro mundo contemporáneo.

Barnaby Barford se graduó en la Universidad Real de Arte en 2002. Ha expuesto sus obras a nivel internacional y ha sido el protagonista de varias exposiciones individuales en el Reino Unido y, recientemente, ha expuesto en solitario en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Virginia, Estados Unidos. Sus obras forman parte tanto de colecciones públicas como privadas.

Actualmente, está representado por las Galerías David Gill de Londres. Barford ha hecho encargos para museos, clientes particulares y hace poco ha trabajado para Louis Vuitton.

En 2008, Barford dirigió una singular película basada en sus obras de arte. Damaged Goods (Bienes dañados) fue un encargo realizado por Animate Projects y se financió gracias a Arts Council England y Channel 4.

The ROBOTS were built by attaching casted parts together.

Some of them contain kinetic elements, or function as light ďŹ xtures.

Jorine’s work are frozen stories. Pauzed moments captured in a porcelain skin. She plays with time, immortalizes beautifull moments that otherwise remained unseen. Operating in the field of her own imagination her products often create surrealistic atmospheres, touchable dreams. Design studio JORINE, based in Arnhem The Netherlands, founded in 2005. After graduating from the Academy of Arts and Design Arnhem, Jorine followed her ambition and set up her own studio. JORINE specializes in porcelain, sometimes she works in other materials. JORINE creates her own collections, products for different brands, as well as interior designs and designs for festivals and exhibitions. Jorine often works together with buroJET, her partner in life and in design. The engineer besides the dreamer.

Las obras de Jorine son historias congeladas, momentos en pausa capturados en una piel de porcelana. Ella juega con el tiempo e inmortaliza momentos bonitos que, de lo contrario, pasarían desapercibidos. Al trabajar con su propia imaginación, sus productos crean a menudo atmósferas surrealistas, sueños palpables. El estudio de diseño Jorine, con sede en Arnhem, Países Bajos, se fundó en 2005. In the post-modern world of craftsmanship as ancillary to the supremacy of the concept, Hayashi’s works are testament to a new regime - that contemporary art can not only be beautiful, but realized with the utmost skill and artistry. Inspired by the anime and manga of his youth, with an obsession for the plastic model kits of the 80’s, Hayashi’s works at first glance can be taken as a twee blend of Japanese sub-culture. This interpretation is prematurely superficial. For what makes Hayashi remarkable is that he creates his contemporary child forms by the delicate craft of porcelain slip-casting. His porcelain dolls are not simply literal manifestations of the future, but are elegantly crafted odes to porcelain itself. Like his slip-casting predecessors Sueharu Fukami and Shigekazu Nagae, Hayashi’s porcelain embodies a new paradigm - one in which art and craft are inseparable, with demarcations a matter of ontology rather than reality.

En el mundo posmoderno de la artesanía como algo secundario en la supremacía del concepto, las obras de Hayashi son testigos de un nuevo régimen: el arte contemporáneo no puede ser solo bonito, sino que debe realizarse con el máximo esfuerzo y destreza. Inspirado en el anime y en el manga de su juventud y obsesionado con los kits de plastimodelismo de los ochenta, las obras de Hayashi pueden interpretarse a primera vista como una mezcla cursi de la subcultura japonesa. Esta interpretación es anticipadamente superficial.

Lo que hace destacar a Hayashi es que crea sus formas contemporáneamente infantiles mediante la delicada técnica del vaciado por colada. Sus muñecas de porcelana no son solo manifestaciones literales del futuro, sino odas creadas con elegancia a la propia porcelana. Igual que los predecesores de esta técnica, Sueharu Fukami y Shigekazu Nagae, la porcelana de Hayashi encarna un nuevo paradigma, uno en el que el arte y la artesanía son inseparables y cuentan con demarcaciones que son cuestión de ontología más que de realidad.
