Be alert to thieves in the town centre! Lock your valuables away!
e
More local businesses in Onehunga‘s town centre have been targeted by thieves recently. In most cases, thieves have had an easy time making off with valuables because simple precautions weren‘t taken to prevent opportunistic thefts. Onehunga Business Association urges business owners and store employees to take special care to safeguard personal items (hand bags, mobile phones, laptops) while at work. Lock these items away! Don‘t leave them on or under your counter. Put sensors on your front and rear entrances Be sure your rear entrances are safeguarded also. Don‘t leave back doors open for anyone to walk in and walk off with valuables. Have your front (and rear) entrances rigged up with a sensor that sounds when someone comes in. These alarms are available from Dick Smith and Grove Mitre 10 in Onehunga from $20 to under $150—a small price to pay to increase the security of your premises during work hours. Shoplifters Retailers need to be vigilant to spot potential shoplifters. One of the best techniques to deter wouldbe shoplifters is to establish eye contact with any person acting suspiciously and then ask if you can help them find what they‘re looking for – it‘s good customer service anyway and for suspicious people, it lets them know they‘ve been noticed in the store and are being watched. “Stair-dancers” in commercial buildings Be on the look out for suspicious people in commercial building. Ask them who they‘re looking for would-be thieves, when challenged often make up some name of a company they're looking for or name a fictional person, but they're most probably looking for open doors and unattended offices with laptops and handbags ready for the taking. As with potential shoplifters, making contact with them and offering help to find who they‘re ―looking for‖ is often enough to send them packing. If you‘re concerned about strangers in your building, get a good description of the suspicious person and pass this on to Satia, our Onehunga Security Guard (see contact details on the right).

Energy Fix could help you make big savings on electricity & gas Energy / Power (electricity & gas) is a big or major cost item for many businesses and, with many suppliers and deals on the market, it‘s often hard to work out if you‘ve picked the best one. Energy Fix‘s cost is 20% of the savings they bring your business (if cost savings are available), allowing you to retain 80% of the cost savings. Then we do some further analysis on savings over various periods of time. 3. Energy Fix presents the savings that we could achieve for you over the next 12-24 months. How much does it cost? 1. There is no cost for the initial audit where you can see how much money we can save you. There is also no obligation to progress any further if you don‘t want to. 2. Proposed parking changes to Pearce Street
Each business can register the name and mobile number of up to two people to receive text alerts. We suggest one of those people is the business‘s owner or manager and the other could be someone who works at the business full time.
Auckland Transport has identified that the existing taxi stand parking on Pearce Street, Onehunga (alongside the Look Smart store) is not well used enough to justify occupying 4 spaces.
To sign up to the Onehunga Security Text Alert Service, phone Onehunga Business Association on 636 8535 or email admin@onehunga.net.nz with the following information: 1. Business Name 2. Person‘s name & position at the business (eg owner, manager, staff) 3. Person‘s mobile number
Fewer Taxi parks, more Car parks!
Auckland Transport have developed a proposal to convert 2 of the spaces to P30 parking, Monday to Sunday, 8am to 6pm. Two spaces will continue to be reserved for taxi use. The proposal will remove redundant taxi stand spaces and increase the number of short term spaces available for town centre customers. Onehunga Business Association supports this sensible change. The proposal is to convert the two taxi parks on Pearce Street closest to Onehunga Mall into car parks, leaving the two taxi parks closer to Upper Municipal Place. Before making a decision Auckland Transport have advised nearby property owners and businesses and asked for their views and comments on the proposal. A reminder to these people: your feedback needs to be returned by Tuesday 27 March 2012. If you have any questions regarding the proposed changes, please contact Paul Buckle, Parking Design Coordinator at Auckland Council‘s Parking and Enforcement department on 09 355 3553.
