Scam Alert

We have heard there is a possible new scam going around. People receive a phone call stating that their telecommunications cost will be increasing. If you respond in a positive way this may mean you have just agreed to change suppliers. Questions to ask anyone phoning – where are they from? How do they know what your telecommunications bill is and who is your provider? Be wary of any phone calls you are uncertain of who you are speaking to and what they are wanting.

YOÜ - Auckland Fringe Festival Event in Onehunga Pearce St Hall, Onehunga — March 1st & 2nd, 8pm
Experience the inspirational magic of Gaga. An electric pop-opera brought to you by APAC. This piece is a gargantuan accolade of music, love and humanity on the fringe of homespun entertainment. You is a musical extravaganza brought to you by the APAC team; a youth led community group based in Onehunga. You introduces the APAC team into their Fringe debut, straight from successful seasons of locally made drama in Onehunga. Lady Gaga first hit NZ shores in 2008 with her hit Just Dance. New Zealand was one of the first countries in the world to accept the pop queen, and her music changed the life of many. Director and Founder of APAC, Adam Procter, takes his inspiration and creativity for all his shows from the pop icon. Adam says "without Gaga I really don't know where I would be today, she is truly the inspiration to who I am and what I do". Tickets $15 GA available from iTicket.co.nz or (09) 361 3100.
There will also be games and crafts for kids in the grounds of St. Peter’s Church from 11.00am. At 1.30pm, you can experience the spectacular sight of a Lion Dance on Onehunga Mall, as the lion blesses businesses for the Year of the Snake. We will also be delivering lucky ‘red packets’ leading up to Saturday 16 February. Shops who want to be blessed by the lion should place a donation in their red packet and tape it above their doorway from 1.30pm — just before the lion dancers come around. We will also bring additional envelopes on the day just before the Lion Dance.
OBA makes progress with street signage One sandwich board per business permitted
Over the last few months, OBA Town Manager Amanda Kinzett has been actively lobbying on your behalf for a positive outcome to the restriction of street signage imposed by Auckland Council.
Passionate about the local community?
The use of sandwich boards is dependent on the Unitary Plan, which will be ready for public consultation at the end of March. However, in the interim, we are pleased to inform you that Auckland Council has listened to our concerns and has agreed to use discretion when dealing with sandwich boards in the Onehunga area and apply the general rules for their use outside of the Special Character areas.
Onehunga Primary School is looking for sponsors that have a passion for the local community and want to support the school whilst gaining advertising exposure on a regular basis. There are a range of sponsorship options to suit any budget.
This means that businesses are able to use one sandwich board per business but it cannot cause any obstruction on the foothpath. If the sandwich board is causing an obstruction then the property owner will be required to remove it but if used in a safe and responsible way, the Council will not take any action.
Keen to align your brand with a thriving local Primary School?
Sponsorship benefits may include:
Display on all weekly newsletters Display on the school website Mention at all key school events involving parents (e.g. Pasifika Festival) Preferred supplier status A certificate of recognition and a piece of artwork from the school dedicated to the sponsor
We understand street signage is an important driver of business for many of you and thank you for your patience as we work through your concerns with Council. Please let us know if you would like further information or assistance.
Keep up-to-date with what’s happening in Onehunga Where will the funding go?
Vital business and community news
The much needed sponsorship funds will help towards many projects and programmes within the school that require that extra bit of funding, including ( but not limited to): Classroom resources - helping with literacy and numeracy Extracurricular materials - sports equipment, art and music supplies (to name a few) broadening the children’s learning Pool maintenance Senior school camp
With more than 1500 followers, the Onehunga Business Association Facebook page has become a great source of information for people in the community. Whether it’s posting about the latest developments to the foreshore restoration, upcoming events, personal and business success stories — we let you know what’s happening in Onehunga NOW.
If you would like to discuss the Sponsorship Programme further, please contact George Woodward from the Friends of the School Sponsorship Committee on 021 703 389.
We follow a large number of Onehunga businesses and it’s great to see what activities you’re involved in. If you have an event or something special you want to share with us — perhaps your business is sponsoring a community event or one of your employees received an award — let us know, so we can spread the word too.
