Helen Satele thanks the Maungekiekie-Tamaki Local Board for making the project happen. “It has been an absolutely amazing experience to be a part of this wonderful Community Art Project” Helen Satele is also the art tutor at Onehunga Art Group — a social group of beginners to advanced artists who meet every third Saturday of the month to paint in a creative and social environment. Think B4 U fire by txt
Be careful how you communicate dismissal While you may dislike the ideas of texting to communicate employment concerns, let alone to fire someone, several recent cases in New Zealand have revealed that other employers do not. Employers should think twice before resorting to such a crude means of communication. Susan Hornsby-Geluk, partner at Dundas street Employment Lawyers, issued a strong warning against texted terminations in a recent opinion piece in stuff.co.nz. ― The authority has repeatedly made it clear to employers that dismissals by text are unlikely to be something that a fair and reasonable employer can justify, ― she wrote. Key Employer Takeaway: Whatever medium you choose, make sure to follow proper process when considering firing and employee Be cautious about using text messages to convey important employment concerns. It is probably much safer to discuss such concerns on the phone or in person Sending a text message to terminate someone‘s employment will constitute a breach of good faith, according to Hornsby-Geluk. www.hrmonline.co.nz
