Litter Building Up Around Onehunga OBA addressing issue with Auckland Council

You may have noticed that a number of car parks and streets surrounding the Mall are littered with rubbish — the Countdown and Community Centre carpark, Onehunga Train Station, Brays Rise and Selwyn St, in particular. This is because the regular street cleaner from Auckland Council has had his designated areas reduced to just an area along the Mall. We are not happy about this and are working with Auckland Council to ensure all the areas are cleaned up urgently around the Mall and that there is a regular maintenance service in place.

Welfare reforms update —what it means for businesses Incentives in place to encourage businesses to employ

The recent welfare reforms are designed to assist people to find full or part-time work as well as making it easier for New Zealand businesses to help people get back into meaningful employment. Check out the training and wage subsidies available here: http://www.workandincome.govt.nz/business/develop-your-workforce/training-and-wage-subsidies/ index.html Work and Income is also working closely with young people and is eager to talk to businesses about how they can give a young person the opportunity to shine in their organisation, for more information call Work and Income’s Employer Line 0800 778 008. Tips on managing a disruptive team member Manage the situation with this expert HR advice

Personality clashes are common, but when one employee doesn’t seem to fit, it can be a tricky situation to be in. If their work performance is meeting requirements it can seem like there is nothing to do but hope the problem solves itself. However, delaying can be a serious mistake. 1. Describe the behaviour and its consequences Try not to label behaviour, or suggest intent when describing it. Instead of saying "Your arrogance is causing people to avoid working with you." Try saying "when you respond to people on the phone or in person your words and tone are being interpreted as arrogant. This may not be your intent but the result is people avoid working with you." 2. Get the employee to own the problem Ask the individual what they think the consequences of their behaviour and the perceptions are to the workgroup, the customers, to you, to the company. Ask "What do you think happens when people perceive you in this way?" and don't answer it for them. The employee needs to own the problem. You want the employee to understand that he or she owns solving the problem. 3. Offer help but be careful not to solve the problem for them The employee may not know what exactly is causing the problem, so it’s important to help them understand the exact behaviours that are problematic. You can offer coaching and training but it is not your role to come up with a solution. Ask the employee what specifically he or she can do to change the behavior and improve the perceptions. 4. Make certain the employee understands the urgency required Ask the employee what they think will happen if they don't correct the behaviour. Ensure they fully understand that if it isn't corrected it will affect their performance rating and may lead to termination. www.hrmonline.co.nz

Onehunga Security Update

For Security Help

Importance of reporting crime Recently we have had a case whereby a car was broken into, we had the CCTV footage, Police identified the offender, but then were not able to prosecute because the owner of the vehicle did not report the crime! If you are a victim of crime or witness a crime, call 111 and report it! There have been changes to the allocation of police resources so that when decisions are made about police patrols, more police are deployed to areas with greater rates of reported crime or suspicious activity. Teenagers involved in car thefts Police believe a small group of 13-17 year-olds may be responsible for the rise in stolen vehicles Call Onehunga Town Centre’s Security Guard in Onehunga and Oranga. Most of the teens are believed to be local but some appear to be coming from South Auckland where they are later dumping the cars after a joyride, said Onehunga Community Policing Team Sergeant Rhys Smith (Central Leader, August 2, 2013). Onehunga Town Centre’s Security Guard, Satia Sami, played a vital part in the arrest of four teenagers recently after recognising them on her CCTV screens. Did you witness an incident on Arthur St? On Monday 5 August between 3.30pm and 4.30pm, an incident occurred on Arthur St, opposite Onehunga Primary involving the Police.
