Spreading the Word about Watco

Railcar Revenue Specialist Joely Gath, Director of Rail Infrastructure Cameron Ginther, and South Kansas & Oklahoma Railroad Roadmaster Mike Mulnix attended Southeast Elementary School’s Career Day in Weir, Kansas, in March. It was a great opportunity for our team to educate the nearly 170 students about the types of products the railroad carries, safety, and all the different people and jobs it takes to keep everything moving. Our team brought safety gear and track components so the kids could dress up as railroaders and get hands-on experience with how trains run.

“It was such a rewarding and fun experience,” Gath said. “Mike and I are past students of the school, so it was special to be able to talk with past teachers and even children of my former classmates about the railroad and rail safety. Some kids already knew a ton about the railroad, which really impressed us. Hopefully we spoke with some future railroaders!”
