Design Statement

PUBLIC SPACE (Pandemic Mode) : As the result to the pandemic, some public spaces are forced to shut down due to lack of safety and necessity. Therefore, the chosen spaces should meet the high inspection on accompanying the society to overcome harsh time. To start with, supermarket, being the most common source for daily needs, attracts a significant flow of patrons and number of employees. Therefore, a drive-thru would benefit both supermarket and its patrons by preventing unnecessary entries into shops.

Second, the vertical vegetable market not only create opportunities for jobless tenants, it would also supply kitchen needs to accomany growing tendency of homecooking. Third, to fulfill tenants' priority on securing face masks, the pharmacy would scan room ID cards to track records upon purchasing. The system works as: 14 masks for each room, card and/or week. Finally, the essential oil factory plays an important role in the building. One major transmission agent for diseases is through insects; thus, insect repellant plants are grown in the terrace gardens to form natural protection. These plants are also grown to supply the factory in producing essential oil and other sanitising goods. Moreover, by-products of refinery (floral water) can be added to water features such as fountains and waterfall, again, to enhance insect repellant effect to the site. Tour and DIY workshops will be prohibited. To increase the quantity of sanitizer, the factory will run 24/7 and flight attendants who are temporarily jobless will be hired to join night shift porduction.

TENANTS’ SPACE (Pandemic Mode) : Apartment The entrance, the drop zone, the laundry space and the bathroom will be isolated in every apartment. Ideally, tenants will be cleaning themselves before going into other spaces. Activity spaces ( Study room, Gym, Swimming pool ) Due to pandemic, modular installation will be applied to minimise the risk of disease transmission. Each user will have approximately four square metres of private space for studying and indoor exercising.

This site is located next to the Carriageway Park which has nice quantity of trees.

The Greenhill St in front of the site has huge number of traffic. Leaving more space for trees to reduce the pressure .

Part of the west side mass is deleted to decrease the building sunshine area.

A green plaza surrounded by bussiness area becomes an extension of Carriageway Park and provides a new North-toSouth connection through the site.

The sorth-west corner is raised to create an urban landmark which can not only incease the view for tenants but also block more sunshine during summer.
