My Overall Experience

Describe your overall experience of locating these primary sources. Was it challenging or straight forward? Do you learn anything interesting along the way? My overall experience was good. I'm always a nerd when it comes to internet and finding sources. When I first learned about these I said to myself that this is going to be easy, up until I started looking for primary sources. One thing I've learned from this is that alot of documents get saved in case if anything happens. 2. Were you able to locate an interview with Tom Evans, a close friend of President Truman's, who interacted with scientists who were trying to reach Truman with their campaign against the use of the atomic bomb? Slated Series Analysis

When I first started to read, it was the usual Bif and Chip books, which read "Bif had a key" or "Chip likes blue ". Then, a few weeks into year 1, I found the Worst Witch series by Jill Murphy, which ultimately shaped my reading personality. They inspired me to read more challenging books. It was only through an hour or two of looking through the school library that I found the Harry Potter series, almost half way through year 4.

JK Rowling had engulfed me in her writing, taking me into the world of Hogwarts. Consequently, some days the books had to be pried from my hands by an exasperated mum. This didn't stop me, however. Day and night, night and day, I read whilst I ate, I read whilst I bathed, listening to audio books when reading was...show more content...

By the time I got to secondary school, six times I had reread the series, and that was when I realised I needed to read something different. So I went on a book hunt. My secondary school librarian was extremely helpful, recommending several series to me. My favourite was the Slated series by Teri Terry.

Slated was a trilogy which was centered on a girl. She lived in a normal city in america. Or at least she did after she was slated. Slating is an operation given to terrorists or victims of terrorists to remove part of the brain, the area in which memories are stored. By doing this, all memory of a previous life vanishes, giving the person a "clean slate" – hence the name. This girl had been slated, yet she often had dreams of another world. She spoke to no one on this matter, as she knew there would be severe consequences, and the dreams were sometimes comforting. The stories follow her as she uncovers the truth of why she was really Slated.

Both of these series have had a significant impact on my reading and personality, as they both serve lessons of standing up for yourself and finding justice by any means. I think everyone over the age of 10 should read both these books (even if I was only eight when I read harry potter) as they will serve lessons to the unconscious mind, shaping children to be proud and independent

Jeff Bezos, founder, chief executive officer, president, and board chairman of the mega Internet store Amazon.com is considered one of the most innovative entrepreneurs of the e–commerce industry. At the age of 31, with just a computer science degree, little funding from his family, and a challenging idea, Bezos set out to pursuit his entrepreneurial vision of a internet bookstore which had turn into the biggest online retailer of our times (Jeff Bezos, 2007). Born in January 12, 1964, Bezos demonstrated intense scientific and mechanical interests since an early age. Parents, Miguel Bezos, a Cuban immigrant engineer, and Jackie Gise Jorgensen were impressed when their three–year–old Jeff dismantled his crib apart using a screwdriver...show more content...

Working this start–up company Bezos focused in creating a network for international financial trade. Unfortunately, the start–up failed and Bezos' inspiration was cut early and forced to move to Banker Trust Company. At Banker, it took only two years for Bezos to reach the Vice–President position. In 1990, after a lucrative proposition Benzos left Banker Trust to became Vice–President of D.E. Shaw & Company, a financial trading company leading the computer technology race. David Shaw, Bezos' new employer soon discovered his VP's innovative work skills and promoted him little after one year to Senior Vice–President. Shaw, described Bezos in an interview with Time magazine in 2003 as "sort of an entrepreneurial odd–job kind of person" (December 27, 2003). Two years later, in 1994, Bezos found himself leaving D.E. Sha to pursuit his wild Internet idea (Business, 2006). Bezos' entrepreneurial vision perceived new opportunities in the rapid growing usage of the Internet. He believed a 2300 percent increase in web trafficking every year could develop into a new sphere of commerce. After reviewing top mail order business, Bezos discovered that no mail order catalogue existed for selling books. Big name libraries like Barnes and Nobel considered that a catalogue including all the feature titles would need thousand of pages therefore making it expensive to mail. Bezos saw an Internet database as a solution to this issue and decided to serve this unattended market by launching

Libraries are an essential part of the community. However not all societies have libraries. Libraries require centralized populations, economic development and political stability for their survival. Libraries exist in places where peace exists. They cannot exist in places with full of conflicts. Libraries have different missions and serve different communities differently. People and organizations establish libraries with different missions. Historical overview shows that libraries have always had missions. Therefore, Julius Caesar started building a public library, but died before he completed it. Asinius Pollio completed the library. This established was followed by more public libraries. Other missions of libraries that existed in the past included maintaining scholarly mission, religious mission, for instance, monastic libraries of middles ages, educational mission, for instance university, humanistic mission and promoting national pride (Rubin 39).

In the modern world, libraries have certain missions that they serve. The establishment of the printing press made more books available to many people. This encouraged the establishment of more libraries. In the United States of America, libraries came up with new missions. First, libraries emerged with the mission of self–improvement. Advances in mechanical technology in the eighteenth century led to industrial revolution that improved the economy and community health. This meant that a certain class of citizens had more leisure time, for self–improvement. This favored the emergence o f new libraries. The social library emerged with an aim of helping individuals improve through the search of truth. Therefore, they provided literature and books that provided information, which could help people to gain knowledge and improve their character. In the current world, libraries provide information that people have access to, and use it for their own improvement (Rubin 47).
