MÁD AROUND THE WORLD Our aim is to produce unique wines from the vineyards of Mád village that represent the true character of the terroir. The winery is located in the hearth of the historic Tokaj wine region in the village of Mád. This village has the largest total vineyard area in the region providing the possibilities to produce commune level wines in the highest quality. The vineyards were classified in the early 1700s. In this unique attempt most of the vineyards of the village - located on the hillsides of inactive volcanoes - were evaluated as first or second class. Most of our vineyards are planted with Furmint. This variety represents the best mineral character, typical in the Mád vineyards. The roots reach into 15-20 meter deep into rhyolite, and rhyolite tuff with a lot of quartzite. The different proportions of clay minerals – especially zeolite and bentonite - give the main characteristics of our vineyards. We find yield control is of utmost importance to concentrate
