Welcome
to the September Issue Where has the summer gone? One minute it was April and then BOOM - September has arrived! The end of summer also means the return to school, although it will be without a doubt a very different experience for most. Let's not forget how challenging those months of homeschooling were, so spare a thought for all the teachers. After a rollercoaster few weeks through August, students finally received their exam results. It's been a tough year and the eventual results didn't work out for everyone but this certainly isn't the end of the road and there's still lots of opportunities ahead. Baldock welcomed a lovely new boutique store to the town in August. Palma & Stone officially opened doors to their first physical shop and have had a great response so far. Pop in next time you're out and about to check out their range of fashion and homeware. Lock down king Rob Scahill, from The Orange Tree has been nominated for The Green King ‘Hero’ award. After all the incredible work that went into keeping us stocked up through lockdown and supporting local artists it would be great to show the team some support in return. You can vote at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/GBPA-Greene-King The Macmillan Coffee Morning returns on the 25th of this month. Join in with a socially distanced or virtual coffee morning with friends and family to show your support and raise funds for this fantastic charity. If you don't fancy baking yourself you can always order in and have some treats
delivered to your door from Baked By Blondies.. Huge thank you to everyone who has sent in pictures for this months Gallery page - we were inundated with photos, please keep them coming for the next issue! This months issue includes another motoring review from Tim Clay-Barns, as well as Slimming World's famous Keema Cottage Pie recipe just as classes start up again. We also have the return of the new movie releases in cinema, yes IN CINEMA. We're also thrilled to welcome a number of new advertisers including a listing for a beautiful barn conversion in Wales available for staycations and owned by a lovely lady local. Stay safe..

BALDOCK COMMUNITY CENTRE REFURISHMENT It is hard to believe that the Community Centre has been with us for over forty years now. Many older residents will remember the old brewery that stood on that spot in the middle of the High St; the smell of malt and the sacks being hoisted up to the top of the building. It was much lamented by Baldock imbibers when it was cruelly demolished but at least one small area of it remains a ached to the newer building. Enough of tragedy!!
The Community Centre itself has fulfilled a much needed role over the past four decades in many ways, but was

in some need of refurbishment. Inevitably it had become somewhat ' red' and even a bit dilapidated in recent years. The Baldock Town Councillors were asked to help and arranged a grant of £50,000 from North Herts District Council to kick things off. The Baldock Community Centre Management Group awarded the contract to Maple Tree Associates and are delighted with the finished product that has come in on me and on budget. Project Manager Val Shanley voiced his praise of the local tradesmen involved. “The carpenters, plumbers, painters and their assistants have done a great job in making the place fit for purpose for the next half century. This is the first of a number of refurb projects we are hoping to complete in the local area and I am delighted with how it has gone.” The ground floor offices, foyer and toilets have all been completely renewed to give the community centre users, many of them elderly, a much improved experience. The before and a er photos show the extent of these improvements.
Cllr Jim McNally said “Great credit to Val and his team on a job well completed. I've no doubt that local folk will really no ce the changes made and wish Maple Tree every success in future projects.” But don't just take our word for it ... pop on down and see the new look to your local Community centre for yourselves. The Community Centre will be opening soon with a phased reintroduc on of it's previous users. Tracey, Liz & the staff hope to be back in harness by September and look forward to welcoming everybody with tea & coffee (at very reasonable prices….).

Old School Style with Modern Sound
Edier S350DB Active 2.1 Bookshelf Speakers with Sub This month sees more yet more audio gadgetry, but in the form of 2.1 ac ve bookshelf speakers with an 8" sub! This month, I am reviewing the Edifier S350DB Ac ve 2.1 Bookshelf Speakers with (he y) sub-woofer. First off, these are REALLY heavy speakers! The 8" subwoofer is pre y cumbersome and as usual unpacking equipment it's encased in polystyrene packaging and then two protec ve sleeves, so li ing it out of the box was fun! The speakers are really nicely presented in old school wood-effect and they really looked-the-part, reminding me of the speaker systems from the 1980s, but without any of the garish s ckers and flashing lights. Instead, this looks really high-end indeed and feels like a great, solid system. You have three speakers, two tanium dome tweeters and an 8" Subwoofer and 'hockey-puck' style Wireless remote control. Everything plugs into the subwoofer which is power directed from the mains. Audio controls are included on the side of the right-speaker as well as the remote.
Connec vity is provided by Bluetooth 4.1 aptX, RCA, op cal, coaxial or AUX inputs which can be selected by the remote. It's nice to see so many op ons and will allow for users to connect to their TVs, BluRay and mobile devices. On the side of the right-speaker are three knobs to control bass, treble and volume. There is also a power light and Bluetooth light to indicate connec vity. The S350DB is equipped with two bookshelf satellite speakers that have tanium dome tweeters that aid in producing a sound that provides clear highs when listens to either movies or music and of course, the 8-inch subwoofer is capable of shaking the ground. In fact, while I was tes ng it, my phone started walking across the kitchen table! Connect it to your games console
and it will feel like the house is coming down around you!. There are 'reflex ports' in the sides of each speaker ' which allow for the speakers to breathe when they are pumping out sound and I'm told the bass reflex gives the rumbling lows that you will experience. The S350DB has a built-in amplifier that helps power and drives the speakers using digital signal processing. This helps the speakers provide a clear and standardised level when processing digital signals. The S350DB comes with a built-in amplifier that powers and amplifies both the bookshelf speakers and subwoofer. This system uses a dynamic range control for amplifying quiet sounds as well as reduce loud sounds might be unpleasant to listeners. If you are looking for a set of durable, he y speakers, then the Edifier S350DB will not disappoint, this is 20kg or 42lbs of quality audio equipment, highly recommended! See you next month!

The 2019 Lexus RX 450hL
The New Seven-Seat Hybrid SUV
By Tim Barnes-Clay - Motoring Journalist Sport u lity vehicles have been the flavour of the decade in the UK. Some are as bland as gluten-free crackers, though - but we s ll purchase them. Of course, SUVs, as they're commonly known, don't have to be like this - and Lexus has come up with a formula to make them mouth-watering. The carmaker would have to silence me forever (gulp!) if it told me what the recipe is, but the Japanese firm has at least let me sample an RX 450hL for this ar cle. Now, it came as a surprise to me how the RX 450hL Takumi - an elongated, seven-seater version of Lexus' RX 450h is as far from bland as you can get. Why? Put it this way - if you need your SUV to give you oodles of equipment, topdrawer quality, excellent refinement, and bags of comfort, then this Lexus could be the car for you. It's nowhere near as driver-focused as, say, BMW's X5, but it'll chill you out by turning any journey into a magic carpet ride. Certainly, if you have kids, then you'll struggle to find a non-German car quite so sumptuously accommoda ng. Furthermore, the Lexus moniker carries kudos, and the brand has a reliable reputa on. By adding more room behind the back wheels and two addi onal leather SEPTEMBER

chairs, Lexus has done a great job when it comes to fi ng extra people into the RX. This third row of chairs folds electrically from the load bay's floor, while the second er of seats slides to enable you to access the rearmost chairs. What the L variant of the RX 450h does is give you a boost in load-lugging room from 453 litres to 495 litres, and a maximum of 966 litres with all five rear seats collapsed. Useful if more space is high on your list of reasons for buying a new car. And from behind the ller, other than the rear windscreen being further away, driving the seven-up Lexus doesn't feel any different to the five-seater version. Visibility is just as decent, making the RX 450hL an easy motor to live with. Priority is given to comfort, beginning with the heated and cooled front seats that keep you calm on lengthy trips. The ride is silky-smooth over ta y Bri sh tarmac, while the quiet hybrid powertrain adds electric power at low speeds. Indeed, the hybrid arrangement, encompassing a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine and a couple of electric motors, helps efficiency. In the real world, you can achieve a claimed average mpg of 34.4. Not terrific, but not terrible,
Vehicle Accident Repair Specialists Crash Care Centre Hitchin Ltd
considering the size of the SUV. The steering isn't as incisive as a BMW SUV's, but not to worry - the Lexus isn't about sporty handling; instead, it's about laidback motoring. There's lots of kit on the Takumi version of the RX 450hL, and there's a sizeable infotainment screen that's controlled via a finicky mouse. What's more, this SUV comes with an audio treat in the form of a Mark Levinson sound system. The RX 450hL feels special in every department - especially the cabin. On top of this, you
have that bullet-proof Lexus dependability. And that last point is what you need when looking for a deluxe car that will serve you and your family well.

Senior Pet Screening Although the weather is good at the moment, depending on what age your dog or cat is, it can affect how they feel and how they react to it. The average life span of dogs and cats has been increasing over the last decade and Vet Surgeons and Nurses are now more aware of certain condi ons that occur more commonly in the elderly animals that nega vely affects the quality of life of your furry friend. These include high blood pressure, endrocrine diseases (Diabetes, Cushing's disease, Hyperthyroidism in cats), Kidney failure, Tumours, Osteoarthri s, Dental decay, Heart disease, Demen a and so on. there is a long list. As a general rule, the earlier a problem is iden fied, the earlier an adequate treatment can be started and the be er the outcome can be for your pet.
Most pets have an yearly check up at the me of their Vaccina on, but some mes a disease can progress very quickly, so having an addi onal check-up a er 6 months can be very helpful to iden fy a problem before it's too late. For example a pet with high blood pressure does not show any sign un l the kidneys, the eyes and/or the brain are irreversibly damaged, so if he/she is then taken to the Vets when it is already blind or in Kidney failure there is not much to do to restore the eyes or the Kidneys. You might think that your dog or cat is just slowing down because he/she's "ge ng old", but maybe he/she has some joint pain, or Hypothyroidism or Diabetes. Your Vet or Veterinary Nurse will be happy to have a chat with you, and ask a few ques ons about the
wellbeing of your pet, and have a good check-up, measure the blood pressure and see if other tests are needed. In conclusion, our take-home message is: you can make a difference to the quality of life of your elderly dog or cat. Pay extra a en on to his/her daily rou ne and ensure regular check-ups at your Veterinary prac ce is carried out. In this way your furry friend can live a longer and be er life! Baldock Gardens By Graham Tapp
Writing these short pieces, I always surprise myself with how quickly the deadline comes around, and again here it is September already. I am hoping that this month will be a bit dryer than August. Most people I have been speaking to have been horrified with how wet it had been. We had a couple of days when water was coming in everywhere. Unfortunately, our conservatory roof is well into old age and should have been retired a long time ago. Consequently, I have a carpet that will now spend the rest of its life in the garden suppressing weeds. Now that brings me to something that I mentioned last time, weeds. I had as you may remember some trouble with my veg area, I could not spend as much time on it due to a lack of staff, them all being furloughed. Through the hot spell, we had earlier the weeds got a bit out of hand but could have been controlled if I could have given it a bit of my time. As always happens events conspire to prevent a plan and nothing got done, The wet spell set in and the weeds went berserk. I have fat hen weed that I can only just see over, interestingly the potatoes and leeks have grown just as well as they would have without the weeds, that goes against everything I have been taught. Back to the wet stuff, the general opinion as mentioned earlier is that it is one of the wettest spells for an exceptionally long time, certainly the wettest August. From my memory, I can say that 1974 would be the wettest I can think of, I was a student at Hadlow Agricultural and Horticultural college back then. Although we had lectures indoors most of the time, being a practical course, we had to venture out into the fields and orchards for the rest of the time. Hadlow is situated in the flood plain of the Medway river near to Tonbridge in Kent. it sits on deep fine alluvial soil that will get to field capacity very quickly due to the high-water table.
The rain that year started earlier than it has this year it began in early July, harvesting was impossible, we couldn't cut any wheat or barley crops as we couldn't take any equipment onto the fragile soils as they would sink into the ground. Vegetable harvesting had to be done entirely by hand with no tractors to transport the produce to the packing shed, a complete reversion to pre-Victorian times. Hadlow was a boarding college, and us students all had rooms around the campus, some were lucky and had rooms on the second floor of the residential blocks I was not one of them, mine was on the ground floor and about as far from the main buildings as you could get. Any warnings were challenging to hear, especially on a weekend when the Friday visit to the pub had been a satisfying one. I was woken by one of the lecturers banging on my door. It was then evident that the water from the local river was about to enter my room, I had minutes to get everything onto the bed and as high up as I could get. The local river was about one hundred and fifty metres from my room across a hop garden, overnight the water had slowly risen and crept over the banks and moved slowly towards my room on being woken the water was touching the wall under my window. College was closed, and we were all sent home until further notice, so I went back to work with my pre-college employer where conditions were not much better. The farm was situated on the North Downs so quite high up ranging from five hundred to six hundred feet. It is on very heavy clay, and although surface water could run off it puddled into great lakes in our cornfields, these stayed as large ponds well into late winter. The crop in these areas was written off. We struggled through to late summer to get something harvested, and into the storage silos, we had to cut the crops at enormously high moisture contents meaning that the dryers had to be run all day and night, they would draw so much electrical power that when they
cycled and switched on the local village lights would go off and all of the television screens would disappear to a little white dot. I remember that we had to make sure that they did not start for an hour from nine pm so that the nine-o clock news as it was then was protected. We had tractors and combine harvesters stuck everywhere, and one instance we had one combine lose its backend down a frighteningly massive sinkhole. The Bosses son John and I stupidly climbed down into the hole to have a look around, the stupidity of youth. at the end of September, I had to help Dad get his apple orchards picked, Its the first time I had seen our tractors stuck because the wheel ruts down the rows of trees became so deep the belly of the tractors dragged along the ground everything was soaked the apples the pickers and the cold stores. The cold stores turned out to be on the same electrical supply as the grain store stores, so we had to keep our heads down in the village. Fruit stores holding a hundred tons of fruit have to be finely balanced to get the temperature down if you have very wet bins and fruit the temperature of the cooling towers have to be very slowly reduced over several days. The aim is to avoid the moisture freezing on the cooling loop and blocking it up, so you have no airflow. The secret and skills are not to draw the moisture out of the crop in the store, reducing its weight and value. We all finally got back to college where they decided that after all that, the lecturers wanted to teach us how to combine in a wet, cold field, you won't be surprised to hear that we declined the offer. So please do not complain about the rain unless it is still raining at the end of October. Enjoy your gardening between the showers. Cheers Graham.

THE NEW MUTANTS
TENET
Out 22nd Sept
Out NOW In a twilight world of international espionage, an unnamed operative, known as The Protagonist, is recruited by a mysterious organization called Tenet to participate in a mission that unfolds beyond real time. The mission: to prevent Andrei Stor, a renegade Russian oligarch with precognition abilities, from starting World War III. The Protagonist will soon master the art of "time inversion" as a way of countering the threat that is to come.
This supposedly final entry in the series finds a group of young mutants in a remote hospital after having just become aware of their new mutant abilities. They at first assume that they're being treated and cared for following the painful ordeals that landed them there, but they soon discover they are, in fact, prisoners. Both their new mutant abilities and their friendships will be tested as they must find a way to escape their captors and survive.

THE KINGS MAN
Out 11th Sept
Out 16th Sept
Set in 1990s, a group of working class Catholic school girls from Fort William in the Scottish Highlands, get an opportunity to go into Edinburgh for a choir competition, but they're more interested in drinking, partying and hooking up, than winning the competition. These lasses are living enthusiastically in the moment to offset their fears for the future. A real coming-of-age movie that feels like it could have actually existed in the 1990s
War! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing, but it is a convenient plot for The King’s Man. As a prequel to the 2014 Kingsman, this spy flick takes us back a century, where the world’s worst tyrants and criminal masterminds, lead by Rasputin, are planning to band together to kill millions of people across the world. Our new hero and his young recruit must race against time to stop them. Thus the origins of the very first independent intelligence agency

It was a typically blustery morning at Legends Lane, yet somewhat cooler than in recent days, with the occasional shower thrown in for good measure. Certainly more acceptable condi ons for a physical challenge of this magnitude. The brainchild of club stalwart Rupert “Bomber” Howman, it was agreed that any number of entrants could a end, and a empt to complete a gruelling 1000 press-ups each, under the watchful eyes of former Royal Army Staff Sergeant Tony Simpson, and Press-Up Policeman Harvey Ashmore. The inten on was to raise funding for the local Garden House Hospice, who have struggled financially in recent mes due in no small part to the COVID-19 pandemic. It has to be said the par cipant numbers were weighed in heavily by the Howman family, with 5 members spanning two genera ons. Rupert and Leon Howman are no spring chickens these days, yet their physical prowess defies their advancing years. The younger Howman genera on featured Harvey
(Rupert's offspring and first team scrum half), and Harrison & Cur s (Leon's talented boys). These willing chaps were valiantly supported by former first team captains Ian “Danish” Christensen, only 9 months a er shoulder reconstruc on, and Darren “Big Dog” Spillane, who incredibly seems to get fi er as he gets older. Big hearts, yet even bigger engines. Individually these guys all completed 1000 press-ups in li le more than two hours. Collec vely they achieved so much more, raising in excess of £3600 from an ini al target of just £1000. They deserve all the praise thrust upon them, and will no doubt accept any with grace and humility. Thanks must also go to Theresa and her team for laying on refreshments for which a further £170 was raised in dona ons on the day.

Keema Matar Cottage Pie We’ve jazzed up the comfort food favourite, borrowing peas and spices from a much-loved Indian mince curry.
Ingredients Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ
Low-calorie cooking spray 500g lean beef mince (5% fat or less) 1 large onion, thinly sliced 2 large carrots, diced ½ swede, peeled and diced 2 garlic cloves, crushed 2 tbsp mild curry powder 1 tsp ground cumin 1 tsp ground coriander 1 tsp mild chilli powder 400g can chopped tomatoes 400ml boiling vegetable stock 300g frozen peas 1kg floury potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks 1 tsp turmeric 200g Savoy cabbage, shredded ½ tsp dried chilli flakes (optional)
Method 1. Spray a large non-stick frying pan with low-calorie cooking spray and place over a high heat. Add the beef and cook for about 5 minutes or until browned, breaking up any lumps with a spoon. Drain off any fat in the pan. Add the onion, carrots, swede, garlic, curry powder, cumin, coriander and chilli powder, reduce the heat to medium and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring often. Add the chopped tomatoes, stock and peas. Bring to the boil over a high heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20-25 minutes or until the swede is tender. 3. Meanwhile, cook the potatoes and turmeric in a saucepan of boiling water over a high heat for 10 minutes. Add the cabbage and cook for another 4 minutes then drain, mash and season to taste. 4. While the potatoes are cooking, preheat your oven to 200°/fan 180°/gas 6. 5. Spoon the beef mixture into an ovenproof dish and spoon the mash over the top to cover completely. Level the top with a fork, sprinkle over the chilli flakes, if using, and cook for 25 minutes or until golden. Serve hot with your favourite Speed veg SEPTEMBER

Too Old For This Shizzle You'll be happy to hear that I got off the sofa, stopped watching and reading rubbish and actually achieved something this month. I had two weeks holiday booked off work and decided that I was going to do something posi ve with it. I had been procras na ng over decora ng my kitchen for about a year and thought that the me had now come to take ac on; I also laid a new floor in there too. It was a week of hard, painful gra , but I got it done. With most things that I do, it's far from perfec on, but it's perfect for me: that's all that ma ers really, isn't it? Every me I take on a new Nicky Project, I conveniently forget that I'm no longer a young, spritely, agile Amazon of a woman and proceed with the gusto of a Domes c Goddess half my age. The inevitable outcome of this is that by day two I'm a wreck. My back hurts, my eyes are blurry, my hands and feet swell and for an added bonus, by the me I'd finished day one of laying the floor, my knees felt like I had crawled through a desert of broken glass and stone. I have no idea how carpet fi ers can walk a er they reach the grand old age of twenty-five. I'm sure some clever person out there can tell me how I can single-handedly pull out all the white goods, lay flooring then push it all back without damaging the new floor or ending up in A&E. So I didn't, my thoughts are that the next me I have to pull them out to clean behind them
(that thought made me chuckle) or replace them, I'll sort the flooring out then, probably won't happen but it's the thought the counts, right? As luck would have it, I picked the right week. I did it before that nasty heatwave struck. Wasn't that horrid? I know I shouldn't complain, but I'm Bri sh and see it as my right. It was hideous. Too hot to do anything. Whenever I moved to the fridge to cool my armpits under the pretence of ge ng a cold drink, I'd lose three pints of bodily fluid just ge ng there and back, so my whole week was prac cally taken up with walking to the fridge and back. The dogs whined constantly because I wasn't going to take them out and they couldn't understand why. Doug took up residence in the bathroom. I have no idea why he thought it was cooler in there than anywhere else. At one point, I was envying people with young kids, because I knew they had a good excuse to get a paddling pool. I can tell you that envy quickly abated when I remembered having four young kids in hot weather. All the paddling pools in the country would not have made me go back there. Along with the hot summer nights of no sleep and open windows came the li le bitey things. I swear they massed a coordinated a ack on me. Either that or one of the wee snippy things was especially hungry. I woke up one
morning with chunks taken from my right cheek, my right arm and my right li le toe, which is now the size of my right big toe. Also, randomly, from my le eyebrow. I can only surmise that one of them was a li le more adventurous than the others or had been given the suicide mission from group command to go undercover. I should be grateful I didn't turn over during the a ack so they could feast on my le side too. I am now covered in itchy cream and downing an histamine tablets like Smar es. A er the sun, came the storm. Doug took up residence in the bathroom again, pan ng and shaking like a Duracell bunny and the temperature plummeted to ar c propor ons leaving me pondering the wisdom of going upstairs (where it's s ll tropical) to fetch a cardi. I decided against it as I'm a brave solder and my knees s ll hurt from the week before. I've now been told that I have another month at least before I return to work properly, so I've invested in a proper desk and chair, so the good news there is I don't have to sit on my cushion on the floor for 8 hours a day. That fed my love of flat pack furniture for a day and my bum has recovered from its constant state of numbness. I'm actually feeling a li le more professional for the first me in five months, even if I'm scratching like a flea-bi en dog and feeling like a ninetyyear-old. It's all good in Nicky's hood and, as long as I don't get any bright ideas about decora ng the hall, I think I'm going to survive this. Keep safe x
Nicky

Baldock Rotary Donation to Garden House Hospice Care
All change at Legends lane
Eight Hospices in the Herts, Bed and Bucks District of Rotary have all received support for their Coronavirus COVID-19 Crisis Appeal, and for its part, Baldock Rotary Club contacted Garden House Hospice Care to see what help it would be able to provide. The problem, two months into the pandemic, was described by Hospices UK as; Ÿ Coping with the health care of pa ents Ÿ Greatly reduced income streams as, Charity Shops are closed, fund raising events put on hold or cancelled, staff working at home and volunteers keeping away. Ÿ Fortunately, the UK Government is helping with support with payment of wages, but money for other necessi es was just not there. The dona on of £3,660 from Baldock Rotary Club was described as mely and greatly appreciated and has enabled equipment to be purchased including PPE and other essen al items that were needed due to Covid-19. With the aid of a Global Grant and the support of the Rotary Club of Bloomington, Minneapolis, Minnesota, eight hospices in our region were able to benefit from this ini a ve. Weston Way Nursery School The nursery was closed as of 23rd March for the majority of children. We remained open for those children whose parents were key workers in the community. Among which included paramedics, police, care workers, journalists and delivery drivers. Staff were all working on a reduced metable but were all involved with the carefully metabled procedures. As of June 1st we started to welcome back more children as their parents and the nursery staff deemed it safe to do so. During the last week of term we were
very pleased to have welcomed back over 92% of the children even if it was in a very limited capacity. It was strange at the end of term saying our brief goodbyes at 'arms length'. We were given some very generous gi s which were much appreciated. We haven't met the new children who are star ng in September or their families. This usually happens in July but will now happen in late August early September. We are conduc ng the parent informa on sessions during the later part of the summer holiday and the children's visits will happen during the first week in September. All the children will then be carefully metabled to start in the second week in September. Following the guidance from the Government and Her ordshire County Council. Let's all hope that this years cohort will be able to a end for the whole year. A lot of work has been going on behind the scenes to prepare the nursery for September. This includes the building of a Bird Hide by my daughter and husband while both on furlough! Mr LaRoche has been busy pain ng the nursery and the li le house in the woods. Jane Mille - Headteacher
'Lionesses' Ladies Rugby Fitness During January and February of this unique year, a trio of enthusias c local women; Lisa, Keeley and Elisa, wanted to play rugby but there wasn't a Ladies team at Letchworth Rugby Club for them to train with or join. By the end of February, a couple of willing coaches were recruited to their group, with plans for a new Letchworth Ladies Rugby Fitness session eagerly set. The unfortunate lockdown bombshell halted their start, but the drive and enthusiasm meant that word soon got round... female friends, family and anyone curious to try out this new Rugby Fitness session began volunteering to have a try. Following the Government's green light, the new Letchworth RUFC Lionesses had their first ever training session on Wednesday 1st July. Under the Covid-19 guidance the ini al focus was on fitness and was a ended by 9 ladies. Since this inaugural session, the

A lot of us have been frustrated during lockdown as we haven't been able to follow our normal rou nes for work and exercise. With offices and gyms shut, we have been stuck in makeshi home offices adop ng awkward working posi ons and having to follow Joe Wicks in our living rooms to keep fit. The dangers of poor ergonomic working condi ons cannot be overemphasized, even ge ng up and having a stretch every 40 mins makes a huge difference to muscular tension, back and neck s ffness and especially circula on. Top p – set your phone alarm to remind you to stand regularly while working at a desk or table. Also see our regular ps on Facebook or Instagram. The growth of 'garage gyms' and the recent increase in walking, has been a real bonus and gardening (green gym) can be a good physical workout. The difficulty is keeping up the levels of exercise we were doing in lockdown! You don't need to become a top athlete but doing a li le more exercise
daily can really help. Going up and down stairs more o en or walking a li le quicker is good and being aware of how much you are moving is important. Uncertain mes brings anxiety and fear. We are tense and prone to overindulgence. Our team at Amber can help you and advise in all areas of health and fitness: Osteopathy – to diagnose, treat and advise on any aspect of your body's health (joints, muscles, nerves, bones, ligaments, tendons) Podiatry/Chiropody – for basic foot health or correc ng our gait.
