JUNE 9-11 / JUNE 16-18
NWNW NWNW NWNW NWNW NWNW Welcome to the 34th annual NW New Works Festival! Since its inception, the Festival has featured established artists from a variety of performance disciplines, upholding its mantra to create a platform for tomorrow’s artists today within the Northwest’s creative community. This year, 16 companies and individual artists were selected from Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia. They will showcase their new and in-progress performance works (all under 20 minutes) over 2 weekends, on 2 stages. Curated by a panel of peer artists and administrators from across the region, the Festival provides rehearsal time, an honorarium, documentation, and the opportunity to present work at OtB. In the past few years audiences have witnessed new pieces from artists including Tim Smith-Stewart/Jeffrey Azevedo, Jessica Jobaris & General Magic, and Markeith Wiley — all of whose work has become part of regular seasons at OtB.

PETE (PORTLAND EXPERIMENTAL THEATRE ENSEMBLE): DECEPTION UNIT
LINDA AUSTIN DANCE: A WORLD, A WORLD — (UN)MADE CHAPTER 3
THEATER | PORTLAND Kitchen sink realism is slowly suffocated with a pillow of subtext, and the narrative goes into witness protection.
DANCE | PORTLAND Sandbags, headphones, a moveable stair unit, and five dancers in a performative interrogation of the borders of the self; the push-pull between autonomy and “groupness”.
ELLA MAHLER: REALLY, IT’S THIS. DANCE | SEATTLE Two dancers sort through any and all strategies in their search for “this” – that ever changing, perhaps never arriving solution or answer.
KATIE PIATT: MALE FRAGILITY: A NIGHT OF RANT & REASON PERFORMANCE | PORTLAND Patriarchy’s tradition of cutting off men from their feelings and rewarding solely aggression leaves us all with stories to tell, and sometimes, to rant.
CAMEO LETHEM: ISLA (DANCE)
JULIE HAMMOND: MÔJ GIDGET
MOTHER TONGUE: < SIC >
