Karen Corr Enshrined Broomfield, Colo., July 19, 2012 — The United States Billiard Media Association today announced that Karen Corr will be inducted into the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame in 2012. In 1998, when Corr moved to United States and traded snooker for American 9-ball she attacked the Women’s Professional Billiard Association Classic Tour with precision shooting and unbreakable concentration. Corr’s quick rise to the top and her consistent dominance on American soil has earned her the only spot in this year’s BCA Hall of Fame class. The Northern Ireland born Corr, 42, will be formally inducted into Greatest Player wing of the BCA Hall of Fame on October 26, 2012 during ceremonies at the Holiday Inn in Virginia Beach, VA. Shortly after winning her fourth world snooker title in 1997, Corr moved to the U.S., switched her game to 9-ball and raced through one WPBA qualifier after another in pursuit of a Classic Tour touring card. After just six months, Corr was ranked 24th in the WPBA, rising to No. 4 in 1999. She captured her first Classic Tour title in 2000, the Cuetec Cues Players Championship. She added two more tour titles in 2000, and then rose to the No. 1 ranking in 2001 with an amazing six titles. In the same year, she also was named Player of the Year (POY) by Pool & Billiard Magazine and Billiards Digest, breaking Allison Fisher’s string of five consecutive POY honors. In her 13 years playing in the U.S., Corr has won 15 Classic Tour titles, four BCA Open titles, three WPBA National Championships and three Tournament of Champions titles. She has won numerous international and regional events and was runner-up twice at the WPA World 9-Ball Championships. Corr also has a Joss Northeast Tour title to her credit and from 2001 through 2008 she was one of the open tour’s most successful players. “It’s awesome to be appreciated this way for your skills,” Corr said after learning of the honor. “And I want to thank the people who vote for the Hall of Fame.” Corr left the Classic Tour a year ago to be with her terminally ill mother in England. Diane Corr, 71, passed away at the beginning of July in 2012. “This is a nice way to start my new life,” Corr said. “I’m back in the States and pool will be my life again. I’ve got a bit of catching up to do, but I appreciate the opportunity to make a career in cue sports. Hopefully, I have a few titles left in me.” Voting was conducted by the USBMA Hall of Fame Board, which consists of USBMA members, elected At-Large members and living members of the BCA Hall of Fame. Induction in the Greatest Players category is awarded to the player named on the most ballots. A second player is elected if both players are named on more than 70 percent of the ballots. After being named on 56 percent of the ballots in 2011, Corr received votes on 65 percent of the ballots in 2012. Jeanette Lee,
in her first year on the ballot, received votes on 53 percent of the ballots. Germany’s Oliver Ortmann was named on 32 percent of the ballots. Belinda Calhoun, Kim Davenport, Gerda Hofstatter, Mary Kenniston, Rodney Morris and Vivian Villarreal each received votes on less than 25 percent of the ballots. To be eligible for consideration in the Greatest Player category, a player a) must be 40 years old by Jan. 1 of the year of their induction; b) must have a professional playing career of at least 10 years; and c) must have recorded significant achievements in U.S. based events.

2012 EUROPEAN MOSCONI CUP RANKINGS LATEST
Dazzling Dyno claims top spot 2010 PARTYPOKER.COM Mosconi Cup MVP Darren Appleton gave his 2012 selection chances a massive boost in Qatar as he claimed the World 9 Ball Championship in dramatic style, beating China$B!G(Js Li Hewen 13-12 after leading 11-3 and 12-6. The victory moves Appleton to the top of the 2012 PartyPoker.com Mosconi Cup European Rankings with Holland$B!G(Js Nick van den Berg staking his claim in second spot. Only the top two qualify automatically and these two are 17 points clear of third. That position is occupied by Greece$B!G(Js Nikos Ekonomopoulos, whose Cinderella season may yet see him take his place in London in December as the first Greek ever to compete in the Mosconi Cup. Other movers included Ralf Souquet who finally kick-started his season into gear with a bronze medal in Doha and the Kaiser shoots up 23 places to claim a top ten spot. The European Mosconi Cup Ranking consists of 10 events – six Euro Tour events and four $B!F(JWorld$B!G(J events. The $B!F(JWorld$B!G(J events will carry approximately 50% more points due to the international strength of the field. Only players finishing in the last 32 of each event will be allocated points and at the conclusion, after the 2012 US Open, the top two players will automatically gain entry to the Mosconi Cup side. The remaining three players will be Matchroom Sport wildcard picks although the ranking will play a part in this. There are just three events left on the roster of ranking events. They are the German Open (16-18 August), the North Cyprus Open (18-20 October) and finally the US Open 9 Ball Championship which runs from 20-27 October.

It was a good weekend to
spend indoors in the lowcountry of South Carolina on the weekend of July 7-8. With outdoor temperatures into triple digits, 52 pool players opted for the air-conditioned comfort of Myrtle Beach's Shore Thing Bar & Billiards at a $1,500-added event on the Great Southern Billiard Tour. Kept out of the GSBT winners' circle at the same location in June by Mike Slaughter, Josh Roberts chalked up an undefeated weekend, completing it with a victory over Phillip Britt, who'd won five on the loss side to face him. From among the winners' side final four, Roberts faced Larry Jackson, while Jared McGee, who'd just sent Britt west, squared off against Shawn Padgett. Roberts sent Jackson to the loss side 11-6, while Padgett, a B player, sent McGee (AA) over 7-10. Roberts, who'd been denied the Brent Hudgins (owner of Shore Thing Billiards), Josh Roberts, Phillip Britt, & Shannon Daulton hot seat by Slaughter in June, got there this time, with an 11-4 victory over Padgett. It was Jackson who moved west and had loss-side trek back to the finals with a 9-4 victory over Padgett in the misfortune of facing the streaking Britt, who'd gotten by the semifinals. Ben Fisher 9-4 and Gatlin Askins 7-2 to reach him. McGee met Roberts, though, was not to be denied. He took the opening Wendell Thompkins, who'd defeated Larry Faulk9-1 and Donnie set of the true double elimination final 11-4 to capture the event Stewart 9-4. Britt won his third straight, defeating Jackson 9-7 title. and in the quarterfinals, faced Thompkins, who'd eliminated Tour directors Shannon and Marge Daulton thanked Shore McGee 9-4. Thing Bar & Billiards owners, Brent and Anne Hudgins, as well as In a straight-up, A-race to 9, Britt ended Thompkins' weekend their staff, and sponsors Andy Gilbert Custom Cues, Nick Varner 9-6. He Cues and Cases, Mike Davis Exterminating, Tiger Products and GREAT SOUTHERN BILLIARD completed his Delta-13 racks.

After collecting the cash, a beautiful vase, fresh flowers and the accolades of the fans, the players of Chinese-Taipei joked with their Japanese counterparts and exchanged congratulatory handshakes and slaps on the back. There were absolutely no hard feelings about the result. Chinese-Taipei had dominated the event all week, and they closed it out in style, all the while offering others a lesson in the ways of a team in a sport normally played alone. “I think the reason we played so well all week is because we are all good friends,” Ko said through an interpreter afterward. “Each one of us knows exactly how the other plays on the table, how they shoot. Pool is usually a game you play alone and there’s a lot of pressure in singles. By Ted Lerner (Beijing, China)--Joy riding a powerful wave that had been building steadily all week, the four member Chinese-Taipei pool team cruised to an emphatic 4-0 finals victory over Japan, to lay claim to the 2012 World Pool Team Championship in the Beijing suburb of Tongzhou. Today’s performance was yet another statement from the Taipei fearsome foursome of Chang Jun Lin, Ko Pin Yi, Fu Che Wei and female player Chieh Yu Chou. They were barely touched all week, and they showed the pool world how great individual talents can come together and perform as a well oiled machine with all parts working in harmony. For Japan, their always smiling faces never seemed to go away, but their good fortune did. The Japanese had lived on a high wire for the last two days, winning two straight sudden death shoot outs to advance in the event. Chinese-Taipei, though, made sure the finals never even got close to an anything’s-possible shoot out. Backed by the over 400 fans inside the Tonghzhou High School gymnasium, who had obviously taken to their cross-strait cousins after both China squads had been eliminated, the Taiwanese came out guns ablazing today. In the opening match of 8-ball doubles, the duo of Chang and Ko walloped Naoyuki Oi and Yukio Akakagariyama 6-0, to give Chinese-Taipei a 1-0 lead. Japan looked like they would make a match of it in the second of today’s six scheduled matches, this one the 8-ball singles. Japan’s Toru Kuribayashi was up 5-2 in a race to 6, but a tenacious Fu clawed his way back. Tied at 5, Kuribayashi had the break shot but he scratched on the bust out, and Fu stepped up to clear his colors for the win, and a 2-0 finals lead. That missed opportunity signaled the beginning of the end for Japan, as Chinese-Taipei pounced like an anemic shark after fresh blood. Indeed Chieh Yu Chou took her turn in the women’s 9-ball singles against Japan’s Chihiro Kawahara and turned up the gas yet another notch for her squad, winning easily 8-2. Chieh has been a rock all week for Chinese-Taipei, playing basic, good solid pool with little fanfare. Just the kind of nononsense teammate required to win world titles. By Press Release BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Association of College Unions International (ACUI) presented the 72nd collegiate pocket billiards national championship at Indiana University’s IMU Back Alley on June 29-July 1, 2012. ACUI is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to enhancing campus life. With 41 men and 23 women registered for 9-ball, 2012 was the largest field in the 75-year history of the ACUI Pocket Billiards program. Delia Mocanu (Northeastern University) forged through the winners’ side of the Women’s division like a tiny freight train, winning decisive matches over Angelica Rudow (University of Arizona, 7-0), Melissa Chesky (University of MinnesotaDuluth, 7-3), Heather Platter (University of Florida, 7-2), and Cindy Ho (California State University-Sacramento, 7-5). She sat comfortably in the hot seat whileMichelle Yim (University of Houston) handily defeated Jackie Sanchez (Barry University, 7-0), Morgan Bowles (University of North Carolina-Charlotte, 7-2), Miranda Blazek (Northern Wyoming Community College District, 7-2) before falling to Cindy Ho in the winners’ side semi-finals, 7-4. Yim then bested Jennifer Acierto (Virginia Commonwealth University, 7-5), Platter (7-5), and Ho (7-3) on the One-loss side to face Mocanu in the Sunday morning finals. In the first set, it seemed that Mocanu couldn’t catch a gear, falling to Yim 7-2. The second set, however, was extremely close, coming down to the final two balls. Yim jumped out to a 4-2 lead, but eventually Mocanu tied it hill-hill. In the last game, Mocanu narrowly missed the 7-ball to leave Yim a simple 2-ball run-out for the victory. Junior National Champions Crowned The Billiard Education Foundation (BEF) crowned four winners in the 24th Annual BEF Junior National 9-Ball Championships. Nearly 130 junior pocket billiard players from 28 states gathered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at Romine’s High Pockets on July 11th -15th. Players took aim to win a title, scholarships, prizes and an entry into the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) World Junior 9-Ball Championships. In the 18-and-under boys’ division, Landon Shuffett of Greensburg, KY prevailed, while Briana Miller of Allentown, PA, defended her title in the 18-and-under girls’ division. In the 14-and-under boys’ division, newcomer Zachary Hampton of Rocky Mount, VA was victorious and April Larson of Bloomington, MN captured her first title in the 14-and-under girls’ division. The top finishers in the 18-and-under boys’ division were native to junior billiard competition. Landon Shuffett, winner of four (4) consecutive Junior National titles from 2007 – 2010, proved that he didn’t forget how to win after taking a year off from competition in 2011. Shuffett steadily proceeded through the winner’s bracket with wins over Kevin Sun 9-5, Ryan Ponton 9-1, Zachary Leonard 9-2, and William Chappell 9-1 before losing to Brendan Crockett 5-9. Crockett, runner-up in the 2011 Junior Nationals and 2009 champion of the 14-and-under boys’ division, effortlessly cruised through the winner’s bracket without a loss. Crockett defeated Tyler Howell 9-0, Daniel McComas 9-3, Joey Torres 9-5, Tyler Styer 9-5 and Landon Shuffett 9-5 to claim the
seat as the only undefeated contestant in the 43 player division. On the one-loss side, Chad Behnke diligently proceeded to win an impressive 8 matches after losing his first match to Brady Behrman 6-9. Behnke shot his way through Austen Warner 9-2, JC Torres 9-7, Logan Zuponcic 9-0, Jonathan Ailstock 9-5, Zachary Leonard 9-2, Kevin Sun 9-8 and Tyler Styer 9-4 before a rematch with Brady Behrman, winning 9-3. With only one more match to win for a chance to rumble with the undefeated Crockett, Behnke 2nd pl ace fell short by only 3 games, losing to Shuffett 6-9 in the semi-finals. Shuffett gladly embraced a rematch with Crockett and an opportunity for another title. In the race to 11 finals, an unforeseen scratch by Crockett when the score was 7-4 caused a shift in the ebb and flow of the match. Shuffett seized the opportunity to tighten the gap and then followed with a break-and-run, narrowing the score 6-7. The alternate break format allowed Crockett to get back to the table. He gracefully took charge, pocketing eight balls, but scratched while getting position for the 9-ball. Staying focused and determined to win, both players edged their way to a 10-10 match, each needing only one more game to win the championship. Shuffett won the final game and his fifth title as Junior National Champion. The showdown in the 18-and-under girls’ division featured Briana Miller and Taylor Reynolds. Advancing to the 15-18 year old bracket this year, 15 year old Reynolds was determined to prove that age is not a factor in winning. Reynolds steam-rolled her first 3 opponents, Tessa Brown 7-0, Carly Fristoe 7-0 and Cristina

Watson 7-0, before being slowed down by Briana Miller. Miller needed only one game to take charge of the winner’s bracket, but the trailing Reynolds confidently won the next 5 games to win the match 7-6 and took reign of the winner’s bracket. Miller made her way by defeating Sarah Bridgman 7-0, Ashley Fisher 7-2 and Juli Poutry 7-2, before losing to Taylor Reynolds 6-7. Miller collected her composure and ambushed her next opponent Ashley Fisher 7-1 and earned an opportunity to defend her title. Miller tamed the fierce Reynolds in the finals, winning the match 9-7 and claiming her sixth title as Junior National Champion in the girls’ division. In the 14-and-under boys’ division, Zachary Hampton, first time attendee at Junior Nationals, received an initiation by losing his first match to hometown favorite Sergio Rivas 6-7. Hampton’s light-hearted demeanor and determination carried him through the one-loss bracket defeating Joshua Goodknight 7-0, Michael Darling 7-0, Mahkeal Parris 7-6, Cody Carter 7-2, Seth Chilcutt 7-0, Ricky Evans 7-3, Mason Koch 7-5 and Shawn Begay 7-3, before a rematch in the semi-finals with Sergio Rivas. Rivas made his way through the winner’s bracket defeating Brandon Descamps 7-0, Zachary Hampton 7-6, Shane Wolford 7-5, Kaiden Hunkins 7-0 and Shawn Begay 7-1, before being defeated by Manny Perez 5-7. Perez advanced through the winner’s bracket with victories over Peter Steele 7-5, Ricky Evans 7-3, Mikey Evans 7-1, Mason Koch 7-2 and Sergio Rivas 7-5 to guarantee himself a seat into the finals. In the semi-finals, Rivas and Hampton eagerly battled for a chance to play in the finals. This time, Hampton prevailed 7-5. Hampton’s momentum continued in the finals as he persevered in the 54 player field, ousting Perez 9-6 and winning the championship title in the 14-and-under boys’ division. In the 14-and-under girls’ division, it was former runner-up April Larson who gleamed as she breezed through the winner’s bracket defeating Morgan Chesla 7-2, Tori Kover 7-1, Katelin Ballou 7-1, Isabelle Plumb 7-2 and Kyra Avalos 7-4 to secure her seat in the finals. Avalos trekked through the event with wins over Jessica Pitsinger 7-0, Katilyn Hall 7-0, Alex Booth 7-4, and Karsyn Terry 7-4 before losing to April Larson 4-7. In the semi-final match, Terry dashed to the finals with a 7-1 win over Avalos. The confident and poised Larson kept Terry at bay, winning the match 9-2 and earning her first Junior National title. The champions of the four divisions received trophies, prizes and scholarship funds. Each champion, as well as the second and third place finishers in the 18-and-under boys’ division earned an opportunity to represent the United States in the 2012 World PoolBilliard Association (WPA) World Junior 9-Ball Championships.
Prizes were also given to all top eight finishers in each division. During the BEF annual banquet, 300 attending players, family members and fans were honored and thrilled to have Allison “Duchess of Doom” Fisher share words of inspiration and enjoyed an evening of instruction and challenge matches. Fisher is currently ranked #1 on the Women’s Professional Billiard Association (WPBA) tour, fifteen (15) times World Champion and recipient of over 75 major titles. Other special guests in attendance throughout the week were BCA Master Instructor, Jerry Briesath, who worked tirelessly with juniors who were interested in perfecting their game and Mark Wilson, professional player, instructor and Lindenwood University Billiard Coach. Allan P. Sand
Allan Sand is a pocket billiards instructor, qualified by the PBIA (Professional Billiards Instructor Association) and ACS (American Cue Sports). He teaches players how to become the “Intelligent Shooter” (thinking before shooting). He instills the love of winning for players at all levels and coaches “A” players on strategies and tactics. He has played the Green Game for more than 50 years – all over the US, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Thailand. He now resides in Santa Clara, CA, and keeps his skills sharpened on a 5x10 Saunier & Wilhelm 1938 table with double-shimmed pockets. It is surprising, but the vast majority of pool players have never taken any kind of lesson from a qualified instructor – not even a basic check on their fundamentals. They will spend hundreds (even thousands) of dollars on a cool cue stick. They aren’t willing to spend $20, $50, or $100 for lessons that will improve their game for the rest of their lives. They are perfectly happy to go on for years and years (and years) believing they are just too intelligent to need an instructor. After all – how hard can it be to push a stick into a ball? Occasionally, some players become dimly aware that their game needs some improvements. They take the next step and watch the many videos of pro player tournaments. The belief is that these examples provide enough guidance to improve their game. After all, who better to demonstrate competence than pro players? A couple bits and pieces of understanding may penetrate the brain from time to time – ideas that might be useful in competition. Of course, they aren’t interested in spending the daily 6, 8, 10 hours of practice time necessary. They won’t even realize that most pros have coaches. They continue believing that watching these small-screen examples are all that is necessary to become a pro-level player (or at least good enough to beat their buddies). But there are a few “intelligent” shooters who really do want to learn how to be a better player. When they look for instructors, one unexpected problem does arise. How do they know whether a so-called instructor is any good? Any individual certified by the PBIA (Professional Billiards Instructor Association) or ACS (American Cue Sports) does know the learning/instruction process. These individuals can properly analyze an individual’s stance and stroke to help improve the shooting skills, and then move on to coaching on strategies and tactics. The process of getting an instructor to help begins
with an active search for someone who knows what to do. A few questions among better players can provide some leads. Remember, anyone can say they are an instructor. So it helps to first look for any certifications, i.e., PBIA, ACS. These groups have a code of conduct and a standardized training process on a national level. You have some assurance of their qualifications. If you can’t find someone with instructor certifications, look for individuals that have other qualifications. Here are some guidelines to help select which of several possible individual instructors can help you: • What kind of playing experience does the instructor have? Consider how many years playing, handicap levels in any local leagues, etc. • How is their reputation as an instructor? Talk with individuals who have past experience as students. • Talk with each instructor one on one. What teaching tools are used, i.e., handouts, video tape, etc. Do they ask questions about what you want? • Take an initial half hour lesson to review style and presentation. An instructor should also ask questions about you. Here is a sampling: • How long have you been playing? • What is your skill level? • What do you want to achieve, short term? • How much time do you practice? • Have you bought any training books or had other instructors? In order to get the best and maximum benefits from an instructor, expect to put some hard work into learning what you are taught. You have to be willing to actually practice regularly. Ask however many questions are necessary for you to understand what you are learning. Your instructor can teach you a lot of short cut learning tricks, but you are going to have to work on them – if for nothing else but to make sure you get value for your money.

U.S. Open Seeding Announced By Press Release
After many in-depth discussions with our tournament directors, Ken Shuman, Jay Helfert, and Bill Stock, it is time to increase the number of seeded players to 64 spots. We are going to use the combined list from the W.P.A., B.C.A., and the A.B.P. to determine the 64 seeded players. We are aware that many players will be duplicated on the existing 2-3 lists, and we will have that in mind to determine ranking when our list comes out starting with the top seed and finishing with the 64thseed. Since the U.S. Open has become an international event with players coming from over 20-25 countries, the deserving players earn the right to be selected as one of our seeded players. We are following in the footsteps of the W.T.A., World Tennis Association, as they have seeding for over 1,000 worldwide players. In fact, tennis seeds 32 of the 128 players, men and women divisions. It is our intention to make positive changes each year, which help the game of pool. We appreciate when other promoters may possibly follow in our footsteps. This allows the pool industry as a whole to make changes for the best. Having 64 seeds is the right thing to do as it pays homage to the top 64 seeded players attending the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championships this year. After all, players deserve to be recognized for their accomplishments throughout the year, and that is exactly our intention. Again, our goal is to seed 64 of the world’s top players each and every year, as we believe these deserving Americans and foreign players will appreciate our values in regard to seeding. We feel seeding 25% of the field is the correct way to go with the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championships. We have been seeding 32 of the 256 players for 15 plus years. Every promoter has the right to do whatever they choose to do with
seeding, and by all means we appreciate every one of us left in today’s pool world. More importantly, our sponsors, fans, industry leaders, corporate America, and beyond are going to love what we are doing. We are approaching more outside the industry sponsors. Pepsi is coming back as well as either Budweiser or Miller beers and the list goes on and on. By us doing this, it opens more eyes to our industry, much like what Paul Allen did for bowling not so long ago. Now look at all of their sponsors and the prize fund, as bowling is “out of the gutter” now with more money for the players. Pool needs this shot so that we will be on our way also. In addition, we are forming “The First Rack Inc.”, much like the First Tee in golf. We will be bringing information to the B.C.A. trade show in Chicago next week. As busy as we are with Q-Master Billiards, moving the U.S. Open, seeding the top 64 players, we will find time to build “The First Rack Inc.”, which in return, will help our industry immensely with greater table sales, cue sales, case sales, books, instructional DVDs, and more. The game of pool has a very good chance in the near future to build our industry to new heights, which we certainly need ASAP. Shannon and I are ready to pursue everything mentioned in the letter today. We are glad to be able to do this. There is no end to what this great opportunity can do for so many individuals, industries, and corporations becoming by more and more involved with the future of the game of pool. Kevin Trudeau had a vision, but lacking the awareness that we have, it sadly failed. Jones comes back Kim Jones and Jana Montour have been trading victories on the Northwest Women's Pool Association Tour since March. Montour opened the season with a win in March. Jones chalked one up in April, and then went on to win the Regional Tour Championships in May. Montour won the tour's third stop in June. On the weekend of July 14-15, Jones won five on the loss side, including a victory over Montour in the semifinals, before defeating local favorite, Phyllis Fernandez in the finals. The $500-added event drew 27 entrants to Black Diamond Billiards in Spokane, WA. Jones won her first two matches, against Alisha Rogers and Tayla Makus, before running into Mary Hopkin. They battled to double hill before Hopkin prevailed, moving among the winners' side final four to face Montour. Fernandez, in the meantime, had opened her bid by surviving a double hill match against Adrianne Beach (double hill). She then defeated Alicia Kvasnicka and Joyce Robinson to move among the winners' side final four and a match versus Shelby Locati. Montour sent Hopkin west double hill, as Fernandez was busy sending Locati over 7-2. The battle for the hot seat went double hill, with Fernandez coming out on top of Montour, and waiting in the hot seat for the return of Jones. Montour's appearance in the hot seat match allowed her to maintain her top spot in the NWPA tour rankings (just ahead of Jones) no matter what the outcome from that point on. On the loss side, Jones defeated Fran Johnson 6-1 and Sandra Badger 6-3 to pick up Locati. Hopkin drew Kimberly Kirk, who'd gotten by Trinh Lu in a double hill match and Julie Valdez 6-4. Kirk prevented a Jones/Hopkin re-match with a 6-2 win over Hopkin, as Jones downed Badger 6-3. Jones survived a double hill battle against Kirk in the quarterfinals, and turned to face Montour. A win for Montour would have guaranteed an extension of the point lead for her in tour standings, but Jones won it 6-3 for a chance to meet Fernandez and narrow that tour-leading gap to 45 points. In the single race-to-9 finals that followed, Jones reached the hill, three games ahead, which is when it got interesting. Fernandez won the 14th and 15th rack to pull within one. In the 16th rack, Fernandez rattled the 8-ball in a corner pocket, leaving it right there for Jones. Jones, from up-table, put it in, but came back straight, up and down-table square on the 9-ball. She tried to poke it into the corner pocket, but not only did it rattle in that pocket, the cue ball came around the table and dropped into a hole.
"I tried to put bottom on it to avoid the scratch," said Jones, "but when the 9-ball rattled in the pocket, the cue ball came around and headed to that other pocket." With ball in hand, Fernandez sunk the 9-ball to knot things at double hill. Fernandez scratched on her subsequent break. Jones stepped to the table and forced a first foul on Fernandez. When Jones got the ball back, she did it a second time. With ball in hand for the third time, she forced Fernandez to kick long at the 1-ball. Fernandez shot at the short rail, and not only safely touched the 1-ball, but put it in. Jones would regain control of the table, and stepped up later, shooting at the 9-ball. It dropped readily, but the entire room went silent, as the travelling cue ball worked its way down (very slowly) toward a diagonal corner. It just did touch the long rail and bounce away safely, securing the event victory for Jones. "I'd played it so it wouldn't scratch," she said of that final shot, "but in that moment (as the cue ball drifted toward the corner), I couldn't celebrate the win until I was sure." Tour representatives thanked the ownership and staff of Black Diamond Billiards, as well as sponsors Billiards 911, Cue Tracker, and Horizon Rentals. They also thanked Rail2Rail. Next stop on the NWPA Tour is scheduled for August 11-12 at The Parlor in Bellevue, WA.

The APA 8 Ball Scotch Doubles in South Florida was held at Lucky 7 Billiards (formerly the Arcade Billiards) located in Hollywood, FL this year. Tiffany and Charlie the owners opened their doors again to host another APA event. 26 Teams would show up to compete for a trip to VEGAS. The matches would start around 11:00am; 2 people to a team, a race to 4 or 3 depending on how the players’ skill levels added up. Chris and Chris would draw a bye for the first match. Once they started playing their matches, they kept winning and made it to the final round and had to play Bear and Charlie. By this time most of the other teams had left, but some teams and friends stayed to see who would win that trip. A friend of Bear’s stayed all day to see if his buddy, who he has know since they were both 6 years old would win that trip. That is friendship and support. Bear and Charlie would win the lag. The first game would go to Chris and Chris because Bear and Charlie had scratched on the 8. Game 2 was Bear and Charlie. Both teams battled for that trip, but Bear and Charlie would come up short and the trip to Vegas would be the TWO “C’s” to win. One other match that was played on this day was very exciting to watch. It was the match that Kelly Cole and Chrisann Latkowski played against Elias and Victor. Kelly and Chrisann came out strong winning 2 games. Elias and Victor would answer back winning 2 games. Game 5 was the game of all games. Both teams playing safeties and giving back the ball over and over, because the 8 ball was hanging by the pocket. Kelly and Chrisann had it blocked, one mistake from Elias and Victor and it would be game over. So game 5 was called a stall mat. The last game for both teams would be played to see who would advance. Elias and Victor would come up short on the 8 ball leaving it for Kelly and Chrisann to make and advance to the semi-final round. Kelly and Chrisann would play Bear and Charlie, but Bear and Charlie would end up winning to meet up with the Two Chris’s for the final match of the night. 11th Annual Alabama State 9-Ball Championship winner's side final eight and defeated Tyson Allen and Lance Ireland, both 9-5. As the owner of Bumper's Billiards in Birmingham, AL, and the Rowell exacted his revenge on Hall, in mirror fashion, surviving tournament director of the Alabama State 9-Ball Championships, a double hill match, as Cole downed Davenport 9-4. Rowell then David Rowell has been trying to win his own event for 11 years. He completely shut out Cole in the quarterfinals, and defeated Nation finished second twice; once in 2009, and one other time, the date in the semifinals 9-5. Rowell completed his first victory at these of which he couldn't remember. Mike Massey, Tom "Dr. Cue" Rossman, and Steve Lillis embarked on a 27 day trip to the Philippines to perform a series of Gospel Trick Shot Shows sponsored by the billiard industry both here in the USA and in the Philippines with various Christian ministries participating as well. First stop was Manila with pro Filipino players Francisco Bustamante, Dennis Orcollo, and Marlon Manalo helping to provide venues, pool tables, and other accommodations and help. Mike, Tom, and Steve were honored guests at the Filipino Independence Day celebrations in Manila on June 11 and 12. After meeting with various mayors, congressmen, and other officials, Gospel Trick Shot Shows were performed with students being dismissed from school early to attend. Other shows were done in the Manila area in various shopping malls, upscale pool rooms, gymnasiums, community centers, and campgrounds. Next stop was the Island of Bacolod were Mike, Tom, and Steve met with public officials from much smaller towns than Manila before performing more Gospel Trick Shot Shows. In one particular town 250 people jammed into a local 5 table pool room to see the show. Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) a U.S. based ministry with a presence in the Philippines help to provide various contacts and venues. Churches, community centers, pool rooms, and universities were the site of the shows on the Island of Bacolod. It was on this leg of the journey that both Steve and Tom got sick for a few days each with stomach viruses and dehydration as Mike soldiered on living up to his famous nickname of "Tennessee Tarzan". Thank God! Bustamante and Manalo are next to each other The third and final leg of the journey came on the Island of Cebu where the tour was picking up a head of steam. Already the team had been on television twice and now a press conference with 12 members of the media awaited them in this fastest growing cosmopolitan area in the Philippines called Cebu City. Newspaper articles and two more television appearances took place. The shows were scheduled and located
in an upscale mall in Cebu City and their was plenty of help on hand. Some of the local Christian businessmen partnered with the team to help with various costs and amenities. ESPN Asia and Puyat Sports made their way down from Manila by flying in a pool table mechanic complete with pool table and an ESPN representative to stay for most of the entire week to help pull off a series of shows in this upscale mall called the J Center Mall. One of the ministries partnering with GTS took the team to "Garbage City" to see where the poorest of the poor live. GTS is working on a future partnership with this ministry to help remember the poor in some practical ways. The team was treated at the end of the trip to a weekend vacation out on the ocean at a seaside resort in Cebu where they took in a Sunday morning service and handed out the remainder of the 1,300 salvation bracelets that we brought from the U.S.A. And yes another GTS show was on tap as Sunday afternoon the team decided to go down the street from the church and do yet another Gospel Trick Shot Show for the locals and this time it was in a small chicken coup that was converted into a one table pool room. Forty-five people jammed in from the neighborhood to see what was going on. The Gospel Trick Shot team even found a few more salvation bracelets and then took others off their wrists to give the people a free gift reminder as the bracelet corresponds to a specific Gospel Trick Shot better know as the smiley face. In summary a 27 day Gospel Trick Shot (GTS) Tour was completed which included 24 Gospel Trick Shot Shows in 15 different cities on three different islands with wonderful Gospel Trick Shot sponsors McDermott Cues, Butch Puyat and Puyat Sports, ESPN Asia, pro Filipino players Francisco Bustamante, Dennis Orcollo, and Marlon Manalo, and various Christian ministries and churches. Thanks to all for helping Mike Massey, Tom Rossman, and Steve Lillis minister to the precious people of the Philippines using our wonderful sport of pool and billiards.

Straight Pool dinner break in honor of the ceremony during the fourth day of competition so all the players and fans can join. Fans will be in for a rare treat as they watch pool’s favorite 14.1 commentator play in his first World 14.1 in 30 years! The last big straight pool tourney Danny Diliberto played was in 1989 in Chicago only 23 years ago. “I’ll never forget that tournament. They had a $3500 bonus for running 150 & out, and I was playing Varner and ran a 95 and I knew I was going to get that money, then a ball skidded on me!” Diliberto has become a staple for Accu-Stats, the premiere pool video company in the industry. Danny’s expert commentary and insight has influenced thousands of players worldwide. Diliberto was on the ballot where fans voted along with other top nominees that included Oliver Ortmann, Dallas West, Lou Butera, and Gene Nagy.

New York Former World All Around Champion and straight pool legend Danny Diliberto and 5x New Jersey State 14.1 Champion “Gentleman Jack” Jack Colavita will be inducted into this year’s Straight Pool Hall of Fame . Both players have had a long fruitful career in 14.1 accomplishments and both became huge influences on the promotions of the game as well. The 77 year old Diliberto will be dusting off his pool cue and participating in the 72nd Predator World Tournament of 14.1 as the honorary inductee , while Colavita will be honored throughout the week as well posthumously. World Champions from 1912 on through the earlier decades of 14.1 history will also be included and recognized as a group. The induction dinner ceremony will take place August 1st ,2012 at 5pm at Linden Place Banquet Hall adjacent to Carom Cafe which is hosting the Predator World Tournament. Special 14.1 Hall of Fame video presentations will be presented by NYCGrind.com’s founder Jerry Tarantola. The World Tournament will pause for a long

Danny was the prestigious World All Around Champion of the legendary Johnston City events back in 1972 and runner-up to the late Steve Mizerak at the 1982 World 14.1 Championship. Diliberto was also the recipient of the BCA Hall of Fame last year. “I’m really happy for Jack Colavita and his family. He was a great player, but above that he was a great person. I miss him.” New Jersey’s Jack Colavita received the lead votes to be elected into the unsung heroes part of the 14.1 Hall of Fame. Colavita was a stone cold legend in the Northeast and was one of the dominant forces of 14.1 in New Jersey during the days of giants such as Steve Mizerak, Ray Martin, and many other notables. Jack won the New Jersey State 14.1 Championships 5 times and the New York State 14.1 Championship 3 times. He also got 3rd at the US 14.1
Hall of Fame Open. Later in life, he was a big proponent and helper of the revived New Jersey State 14.1 Championship, before passing away at age 73. “Jack was one of the greats because he really played the game the right way. He was also a strong 9-Ball player and was super at roll out 9-Ball because he was a great shotmaker. Back in those days, we sometimes played 1000 point matches in blocks over a few days. I remember one of those times Jack ran four consecutive 100 ball runs on me. He was just raining in 100’s ! When he was on, he was a machine and no one played it prettier. He was phenomenal”, said Allen Hopkins, World and US Open Champion in 9-Ball and 14.1.

We wanted to honor not only obvious choices, but to remember great players that are still alive and remind them that they are not forgotten. They are living treasures of the sport. Also, we wanted to recognize those who may not receive recognition elsewhere, but were huge parts of 14.1 history”, said Charlie Williams, Founder of Dragon Promotions. “Last year’s Straight Pool Hall of Fame was sold-out with over 100 people and we couldn’t believe the terrific response. There were 72 players at this past weekend’s Lone Star 9-Ball Event held July 7th-8th, 2012 at Bogies Billiards & Sports Bar in Houston, with Open and Amateur division entries totaling 106. Owner David Richardson added a generous $1,000 to the event, sponsored by Poison by Predator cues, Delta-13 racks, Pool Websites.com, APA of North Harris County, and Gulf Coast Billiards. The tournament drew Open player notables such as Charlie Bryant, James Baraks, James Davis, Jr., and Sylver Ochoa. Tour regulars and newcomers included Mikey Frost, Yoko Joe, Riley Lemons, Dino Little, David Guerra, Eric Olivo, Charles Granger, Joseph Corona, Anthony Chinan , T.J. Pickens, and many more! From Beaumont to Houston to Bryan College Station, players came in droves to compete for the over $6,000 prize purse. On Saturday, the Open division played down to 8 finalists for Sunday. The final four winners’ side pitted an impressive Will Felder against Charlie “Hillbilly” Bryant and Brian Rosenbaum against Sonny “The Boss” Bosshamer. Bryant defeated Felder 9-2 and Bosshamer steamrolled Rosenbaum 9-4. Bryant then secured the hot seat over Bosshamer, 9-3. Sylver Ochoa fell to Bryant on Saturday, 9-3, and was subsequently eliminated by his own forfeiture. After losing his first match to Bryant 9-5, James Baraks won an incredible 9 consecutive matches on the one-loss side to meet Bryant in the finals. Other surprises included Viet Do who won 6 consecutive matches himself after losing his first to J.C. Torres, finishing a hard-earned 5th-6th. The final match saw Bryant defeat Baraks by a score of 9-8. In the Amateur division, the story was Jeff Chauncey who worked
his way to his first hot seat match by defeating Sonny Bosshamer 7-2, Joey Torres 7-1, Danny Lee, and Phillip Thweat, until losing the hot seat to Sonny Demetro, 7-5. Newcomers Phillip Thweat and Ming Ng were sent west in the final four winners’ side by Chauncey and Demetro respectively. After a third round loss to Ng, Bill Fain eliminated Joey Torres, and Phillip Thweat. After a second round loss, Mikey Frost won 5 consecutive matches until he was also eliminated by Fain. Bob Guzik, the “Pittsburgh Kid”, had his best finish ever (along with Fain), regardless of an early round loss to Demetro. Guzik eliminated Pedro Medina, Ray Porter, Bosshamer, Felder, and Ng, before he fell to Fain 5-3. A patiently waiting Chauncey was defeated by Fain in the semi-finals, 5-3. In turn, Fain lost his first- ever event final against Demetro, 7-5. Congratulations to Jeff Chauncy, Bill Fain, Bob Guzik, and Mikey Frost for achieving their best finishes to date. The next stop for them will be the winners’circle! Saturday’s play ran extremely late. The Tour would like to thank all of the players, and referee Derrell Montgomery, for the patience they exhibited throughout the event. When the event resumed at 1pm on Sunday, all 24 finalists were on time for their matches. “Thank you!” Lone Star Tour Players! Also, congratulations to Marc McClure who won a beautiful Predator Ikon 3 second generation cue during the 2- day cue raffle. The next event will be August 11th-12th at Skinny Bob’s Billiards in Round Rock, Texas. Being the official precursor to the Texas Open, this event drew well over 100 players last year.
