MESSAGE FROM THE PUBLISHER
April was a beautiful month and I feel that May will be an intensified version of April. We have a lot of celestial activity in the recent months, including (for most of us) a once-in-a-lifetime event with the Jupiter conjunction Uranus in Taurus. The last Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Taurus was in 1941. Jupiter is the great benefactor- what he touches expands. Jupiter is associated with generosity, abundance, and knowledge. Uranus is the planet associated with freedom and liberty for the people; sudden and striking change; inventions and discovery. Put these two planets in the sign of Taurus which is associated with money and finances, stability and resistance to change, the earth and all her resources - and you just have to watch the daily news to understand what this looks like. My message here is that we don’t have to repeat the events of the past; rather we can learn from the past and choose to see another future. We have the energy of Jupiter and Uranus resonating the positive vibrations of generosity, deep intuitive knowledge and wisdom, the understanding that we are all one people and one earth.
6
Uranus will stay in Taurus until July 2025 when it moves into Gemini. We have an exciting and tumultuous ride ahead for Mother Earth as we see the effects of climate change on her, and as we move through the political and communities actions to save her. I believe we will save her, and I see it being a touch and go - close call for all. My interest in astrology, science, and metaphysics is unquenchable and as I get older I find an immense peace in these studies. Opal Rising magazine is in year three of publication and I see change in the wind as she grows and adapts to the new world. I am overjoyed that you are reading her and my hope and desire is that you come away with something that resonates with you. Join me and the Opal Rising practitioners on the new hub where we strive to connect and interact with you on a more personal level.

FEATURE The Priceless Gift of Awareness for Teens As I sat down to write my first article for Opal Rising Magazine, I became aware of all the noise from my inner world. Thoughts of wanting to write something exceptional, what if I disappointed the audience with something un-relatable and what message did I want to relay anyways. My emotions set in, a little excitement mixed with selfdoubt, worry, and anticipation. My body let me know this with a dry throat and a bit of a hollow stomach. After spending a few moments tuning into my inner world, I settled. I decided I would write, trusting it would land for at least one parent out there parenting a teen. I decided I would write from the heart, aligned with my mission to help 100 000 teen girls build unbreakable mindsets.
A priceless gift we can offer teens today is to learn to notice their inner world and use that as a compass. Teens are bombarded by outside noise that tells them how to be, how to feel, how to dress, what to believe, etc. Rarely do they get the message to listen inwards and how to do that. When teens learn this invaluable skill, their confidence grows. Why? Because it helps to turn down the outside noise and turn up their trust in their inner guides. From that place, people make wiser decisions, choices that align with what really matters to them and are more likely to have inner consent, to hear that clear YES or NO on taking an action.
How do we show teens to listen to their inner world? Here are 3 ways to share the priceless gift of awareness:
1 Mindsight SIFT: Daniel Siegel talks about the concept of mindsight, the ability to notice and perceive the mind and the self. Teens can improve their awareness and noticing of their internal experiences by focusing on their SIFT. SIFT stands for Sensation, Images, Feelings, and Thoughts. In 1-1 sessions with teens, I often invite them to try a SIFT. We grab a whiteboard or piece of paper and divide it into 4 quadrants. At the top of each quadrant, we put a letter from SIFT. They can then take a moment to notice what they are aware of in each of the categories. We discuss which inner experience they are most aware of, any connection between categories, and which one is least available to them at that moment. After 3-4 times of trying SIFT, teens begin to naturally notice what is happening in their inner world and to use that information to guide them. It can also help them take perspective on what another might be experiencing- which is great for empathy building. Asking mindful questions: Much of the support I offer is helping teens discover their own light and wisdom. Many times, they come up with questions that help them get curious and aware of what’s happening for them and what they need. Some questions they have shared are: How am I feeling right now? What am I really anxious about? What does my body need right now? Is there anything that would help me feel safer right now? How can I be slightly kinder to myself right now?

Expressing your experience with personalized journaling: I have heard many times before, “journaling doesn’t work for me”. When we dig into this a bit more, it is often the perceived expectations of journaling that are the actual obstacle.
Expressing your experience with personalized journaling: I have heard many times before, “journaling doesn’t work for me”. When we dig into this a bit more, it is often the perceived expectations of journaling that are the actual obstacle. Journaling is a way of getting that internal experience out, which can help teens take a step back, release, and even understand it differently. Journaling can be grabbing a journal or notebook and writing. It can also be personalized by using prompts, point form, poetry, images, audio recordings, journaling apps, vlog style, photographs, etc. There is no right way, there is no one way. Journaling is a powerful way of becoming more aware. What are some of your favourite practices to become more aware of your inner world? Looking forward to getting to know you all more. With gratitude, Chantal

BREAKING DOWN BARRIERS – TO SHIFT YOUR PERCEPTION Labeling: Creates Fragmentation and Leads to Fear
Identifying Ourselves by the Role We Play There are many ways in which we personally identify ourselves and then as we venture into the world more labels are heaped upon us as a collective. We identify ourselves by the roles we play both personally and professionally and then by our religious beliefs and then again by the culture we were born into and beyond. It is ubiquitous and unconscious. This article is about the impact that labeling has on our individual psyche and well-being and our society at large.
Labels On one hand labels help us organize and prioritize information and can aid in becoming more efficient with respect to systems and understanding complex concepts. Labels can help with ordering in our programs and files. However, when it comes to our human relations it can foster division and stereotyping one another, creating an “us” vs. “them” mentality. When it comes to pigeon holing groups of people and emphasizing their differences accordingly it leads to polarization and social fragmentation. We no longer can see the trees from the forest so to speak. Individuals are no longer seen as unique Beings. Instead, they are lumped into an objectified whole.
The Impact of Labeling The psycho-spiritual impact of labeling is that it unconsciously creates inner conflict and distortion of who we think we are and who others are. We tend to be so identified with the labels we perceive ourselves and others to be that we become disconnected from our true and authentic nature and we then only see others through these filters. When we are so attached to these rigid identities, we are often resistant to change which is necessary for our personal/spiritual growth and evolution as individuals and a society. Even worse we are less loving and compassionate inwardly and outwardly. This all leads to fear of others and not trusting even our own judgment. Fear breeds an exaggerated sense of protectionism and defensiveness.
Moving Beyond Labels Self-awareness and the conscious rejection of divisive labels are key to breaking down barriers that result in inner/outer conflict, fear of others, and irrational and presumptive behaviors toward one another. It is imperative that we examine our own feelings, motivations and the fears that drive us.

Changing Your Perception Change does not happen en masse, only at the individual level. All too often I hear people say they want to change the world. The question that begs to be asked is – To what?! Your own image of how the world should be? The world is the way it is because of this. Each person has their own ideology of how what the world should look like. A shift in perception from divisive labeling to inclusive understanding is a major step in resolving conflicts and building peaceful relationships. However, we must always look inward with self-examination and reflection. When each and every one of us does our own work, the world around us will be an organic reflection of love, compassion and empathy and not a day sooner. If you are anguished and depressed about the state of the world and would like to talk about resolving the inner/outer conflict around this, feel free to contact me here https://calendly.com/carolpcalender/30minute-chat-discovery-call
The Illusion of Tomorrow In the realm where time's a hollow, Lies the enigma of tomorrow. A land unseen, a tale untold, Where the future's secrets unfold. Yet, as we chase the morning light, Tomorrow slips into the night. For when we greet the dawn's soft ray, Tomorrow has become today. In the quest for time unseen, Today is where we've always been. And as the sun dips in the west, Today becomes our yesterday's guest. So we journey, in this endless swirl, In a dance, as the stars twirl. Chasing a day that's never in sight, In the soft glow of the moonlight. Tomorrow, an illusion, a phantom's jest, In the present, we truly rest. For when we arrive, it fades away, Tomorrow is always a day away. So here's to now, our truest friend, In this moment, let's transcend. For in the magic of today, We'll find our path, we'll find our way.

JAMES KAWAINUI
I am a Native Hawaiian Healer, Mentor, and Teacher with Family roots going back over 20 generations in Hawaii. My family are the "shaman" of my culture and I bring that ancient wisdom into the work I do with people. I have come to understand my gift by helping people identify the causes of their pain and suffering and creating permanent solutions so they can move forward in their lives with more clarity and less stress.
WHAT IS HO‘OPONOPONO? Part 2
I've had more than a few people ask me about the misconception that Ho‘oponopono was about forgiveness. The truth is most current Western Research on Ho‘oponopono only goes back 25-30 years or so. To understand its true meaning, you have to go back a little farther than that. In fact, prior to European contact, I couldn't find any reference that the word even existed. It was such an embedded part of our culture that it was simply something that was undertaken when things were out of balance. I know of a handful of Kūpuna that were sharing their wisdom on Ho‘oponopono when I was younger but it wasn't from the, I'm sorry, please forgive me, blah, blah, blah that most people know. They taught that Ho‘oponopono was about resolving conflicts, the righting of wrong doings, and the ability to live in integrity and right-action with yourself and the people around you.
Before the modern misconception was introduced, almost no one outside of Hawaii and no one besides Native Hawaiians knew or practiced Ho‘oponopono. On August 30, 2000, Aunty Malia Carver spoke to the UN General Assembly as part of the Global Solidarity, the Way to Peace and International Cooperation conference. She spoke at the closing session in front of over 2000 people on “New Responsibilities for Civil Society.”
“Ho'oponopono can take place only if every family member wants to achieve peace,” Aunty said. “Family members must come together. They must listen to each other. And they must be honest and admit to their wrongdoing. I'm going to say that peace begins within,” said Aunty. "It is about aloha, love, it's about honor and respect for one another. And it's about having a higher power you believe in to guide and direct your ways.” She went on to say, “It means you have to live by principles. Every ethnic race has been taught cultural values. If people would only listen. If people would humble themselves. If they would learn about each other's culture, we would have a very different world.” Her talk wasn’t about forgiveness, it was about finding peace through resolution, communication, listening, and cooperation. This, is the true Ho‘oponopono. Forgiveness can be one of the results of Ho‘oponopono, but not its main objective. Once this misrepresented “Westernized” mindset and idea of ho‘oponopono got out, it gained momentum. Everyone jumped on the bandwagon, and it took on a life of its own. It's been said that if you repeat a lie enough, it becomes a truth. (Look at where our society is at the moment). It becomes an energy that is then self-perpetuating. Sadly, that's where we are, and that's why the currently accepted version of Ho‘oponopono is out of integrity. All I'm trying to do is set the record straight. There are other mistruths that go along with the story about Ho‘oponopono and forgiveness that was created but that's for another time. Let me support you. Always know that I am here if there's anything going on in your life that you feel like you could use a little help and guidance. It's a free 30-minute conversation. Let' talk.

INVITING INVOLVEMENT
DR. STEPHEN HOBBS The backdrop of this article includes: Explore the transformative journey of agers as creators. Embrace agers’ wisdom and creative spirit in shaping an evolving society. Discover the artistry that knows no age limits.
Ager as Creator Unleashing Creative Power The creative process flows through the essence of our beginning-belonging-beingbecoming with the infinite possibilities of who we can befriend whether kin and/or wild kin. Article to read! The concept of the "Ager as Creator" celebrates this timeless nature of creativity and innovation, highlighting the transitional role that persons, particularly Agers as Olders to Elders, play in shaping an evolving society. Their wisdom highlights a way of being for the world and with the planet, where artistry knows no age limits.

The creative process persists as a constant companion throughout our personal journey and adventures with others.
The Ageless Nature of Creativity Creativity is often mistakenly associated with youth, a misconception that overlooks the depth and richness that age brings to the creative process. As Youngers-Olders-Elders navigate through life's seasons, our experiences accumulate, weaving a tapestry of memories, insights, and feelings. These elements become the raw materials for the Ager as creator, who channels them into expressions of art and thought leadership (and more). The maturation of the creative process over time highlights its ageless nature, proving that the capacity to create, innovate, and inspire does not diminish with age. Rather it evolves, gaining depth and resonance.
Embracing Wisdom and Innovative Spirit Age brings wisdom that fuels creativity and innovation. It offers a broader perspective, a deeper valuing of the human condition. This wisdom, when enveloped by Agers as creators, becomes a formidable tool in envisioning and shaping the future for today.
Their innovative spirit, undeterred by the conventional constraints of age, challenges the status quo and introduces new examples that reflect a lifetime of learning and adeptation (adoptation and adaptation). Aging creators are not just participants in societal evolution; they are at the forefront, leading the charge towards inclusivity, sustainability, and ethical advancement. Their younger-older influence enriches society, ensuring the passing along of legacies of innovation and creativity, inspiring future creators to build upon the foundations and/or nourish the seedbeds of their predecessors.
Unleashing Creative Power: A Call to Action The journey of the Ager as creator is not without its challenges. Societal stereotypes and age-related barriers can hinder recognition and opportunities. However, these challenges also serve as fuel, igniting a determination to break through the constraints and carve out spaces where age is an asset, spring boarding actions aligned with legacy projects and contributions. This transformative journey calls for a collective effort to reshape how we view aging and creativity. It requires creating platforms that celebrate the achievements//accomplishments of aging creators, providing resources that support their endeavors, and fostering communities that value younger-older exchanges and collaborations. By doing so, we honor the contributions of these creators AND encourage a society where creativity flourishes freely, unbounded by age. This invitation for Agers at every stage of life to explore their creative potential, to see aging not as a decline but as a phase of renewal and boundless possibility. It's an encouragement to embrace the wisdom that comes with age as a source of inspiration and to view the future with an innovative spirit.

AGER AS CREATOR
Moving Forward The narrative of the Ager as creator highlights the indomitable spirit of human artistry. It is a story of transition (because of change), for all persons and society. As we embrace the wisdom and wholehearted spirit of aging creators, we unlock new avenues for multisensory invention that know no age limits. Our unique journeys challenge us to rethink our perceptions of age, creativity-innovation, and contribution, urging us to recognize the invaluable role that Agers play in shaping our evolving society. By celebrating and supporting the creative power of the Ager, we foster an environment where all of us continue to grow, enriched by the collective story of humanity. In the end, the legacy of the Ager as creator is a world more vibrant, more inclusive, and more attuned to the depths of human potential. It is a world where creativity knows no age, and the journey of expression by whatever media is an everlasting adventure for all.

REMEMBRANCE OF THINGS
It is the beginning of a balmy autumn evening, with dusk cosily settling in. I am running down the stairs, quickly and excitedly, with my neighbours behind me. We all want to see Neptune. It has just splashed down in the garden pond. There it is, floating like an iceberg, looking exactly like its model I saw at the planetarium. Tadpoles, water beetles and a school of whales, trying to look as deferential as their unwieldy bodies would allow, swim around the planet. I approach with apprehension, for I never did learn how to swim. I scrutinise its visage, trying to discern the unfathomable mysteries that lie hidden in the depths of its oceans.
IMPERFECT
Neptune But my attention is diverted by the intense sky-blue hue of Neptune’s surface. It resembles so closely a luscious, over-ripe plum that I cannot resist taking a big bite. Azure juices spurt out and I feel deep satisfaction, for now I have tasted that most universal of nectars... a hydrogen-helium cocktail.
In mythology, Neptune is the God of the Sea. Hydrogen and helium make up 99% of both Neptune and the Universe.

HEALING, NOT BYPASSING More recently, I read “The myth of normal” by Gabor Mate, and it showed me just how important it is to do mind, body and soul healing work.
To heal, physically emotionally mentally, and spiritually, requires a level of bravery and mindfulness that is, quite honestly, very inconvenient in our current society structure.
In honour of mental health awareness month I want to share some of my own personal experience with mental illness. I have struggled with depression and anxiety since I was a child.
In my teenage years, I developed psoriatic arthritis, which I believe is a physical manifestation of the unresolved emotional trauma I experienced earlier in life. It wasn’t until I started therapy and personal development work in my late 20s that I began to understand the connection. I learned that there is a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual element to everything that we feel, think and experience.
We have so many responsibilities and we are under so much pressure to succeed that often our mental health goes on the back burner while other more pressing priorities take our focus and energy.
Replace Negative Feelings with a Positive Affirmation When we’re doing it alone, the tendency is to bypass and go around it because that’s the efficient way to move on. I think this is why positive affirmations have gotten so popular. If you can replace negative feelings with a positive affirmation you can “snap out of it” quicker and get back to your responsibilities. However, if you set aside a couple of hours a week to be with someone, or people, who can hold space for you to process your anger, grief, anxiety, fears, insecurities in a safe and supportive manner, you can actually process and heal your way through it so you can move forward powerfully.

If I were to choose what was the most significant and beneficial habit that I created for myself and my mental health, it would be that for the last 15 years I have sat in a circle of women on a weekly basis. Being able to sit and be in relationship with women that I can trust to go deep and have meaningful conversations about how we really feel and what we truly desire has been life-changing. I’ve also had the privilege to work with spiritual healers, energy workers, therapists, coaches and mentors along the way to help me learn and grow. Each, and every single one of them has given me a tool to manage my mental health effectively.
It’s important to note that healing is not as simple on and off switch. Healing happens in layers and over time. I know that for me when I’m bypassing it’s like there’s a dark cloud following me around or a weight that I’m dragging behind me. I know I need to ignore it and focus on the task at hand, but I know it’s there. I repeat my gratitude list, and remind myself “this too shall pass” but later on, it’s back and fighting for my attention again. When I take the time to do the healing work, it’s a release. The resistance is gone and acceptance has taken its place.
There is so much shame attached to mental illness,
…and I give credit to Brené Brown for teaching me that shame cannot live in the light. The only way to cure shame is to bring it out of the darkness. Similar to fear, you need to face it, look at it and get to know it so you can understand why it exists and what it’s trying to protect you from. Having someone you can trust to hold space for your shame or your fear or anything else that you're struggling with, is the most significant healing experience you can have. FROM PANIC TO PURPOSE: "CAN WE FIND BALANCE IN THE MIDDLE OF INFORMATION OVERLOAD? Yes! It has to do with our unique creation. Did you turn on the news this morning? I know it’s “awareness month.” But do I need to be aware of the entire world’s problems all the time? Sometimes, I wish I could be my German immigrant great-greatgrandmother in a Kansas prairie underground soddie house with five children. All she had to worry about was snakes or cattle coming through the sod ceiling. Her crops grew what the family needed to survive through the winter. Her children had to stay healthy while being out on the homestead, isolated from medical care. Her husband needed to come home in one piece from a cattle drive. She was an expert with the technology of her day- the rifle used in case of attacks on her home. After caring for her crops and livestock, helping birth a calf, cooking for her family, and teaching the children to read and do sums, she tried to sew and mend their meagre clothes with the dim light of an oil lamp. All of this had an immediate personal impact. I’m not sure her anxiety was any less than mine, just different. She wasn’t aware that the world outside was “going to hell in a handbasket” as she would have said. In her time, world conditions were a mess- just like ours. Was she better off not knowing about it?
Navigating Awareness Month and Beyond
This morning, I heard about a new volcanic eruption that started last night, a ship collapsed a major bridge, stores were looted and gangs killed people on the street. There’s corruption in the justice system threatening the fabric of our society. My favorite coffee may be infested by a bug in South America. A mosquito-borne disease has invaded the US. My grandchildren aren’t safe either bodily or mentally. Every commercial on TV blares out a new illness or disorder that I need to be “aware “of so that I can beg my doctor for some medicine that has deadly side effects. Wars are as terrible as they ever were, and there’s a horrific hurricane season predicted. AI, which was meant for good, is getting ready to enslave and annihilate us. All of us and the animals are in danger of something, any second. Let’s not forget the solar flares and that the Earth’s magnetic flip is due now. That’s just part of this morning’s news! There’s not a high probability that many of these things will affect me today. Impacts may be over things closer to my grandmother’s home-based concerns. Like my nearly 80yr.-old husband doing a roofing job himself. How do we pack all the “awareness” causes and predictions into our daily lives? How do we handle the information overload? The “influencers” want to draw us into their crisis and make their stress ours. Many of their causes are genuine crises and many are bogus. It’s enough to overload even the toughest mind-sets.

IMAGINE A WORLD WHERE EVERYONE USED HIS UNIQUE ABILITIES TO SERVE AND BLESS OTHERS!
So, what do we do? We can panic. Anxiety seems to be at pandemic proportions. My husband recalls coming home and announcing the loss of his job. I immediately went shopping for a supply of beans, rice, hamburger, macaroni, tomato sauce, Velveeta, and Spam. Right? Now, I realize that a healthier diet helps me handle situations better. But, at the time, I was nutritionally ignorant and on a rockbottom budget with small children to feed. And it was something I could do to be in control. We can choose to hide and not look. A recent house guest lives with this news blackout restriction. She’s lived this way for years, in a state of anxiety, afraid that she can’t handle it anymore. As a result, she panicked when she realized she wasn’t aware of issues that might affect her life. Trying to regulate her life by putting up information barriers didn’t stop her stress attacks.
I love to go into my art studio, hang a do not disturb sign on the door, put on my favorite music, and go into my creative Zen zone. It’s healthy for me and produces the artwork which is my calling. Doing what I’m called to do is a necessary part of my life.
32
But, I don’t live in isolation. I live in a family, a community, a country, and a world that needs me to participate. An indicator that we’re in our zone, is our preferences. We were created with preferences as guidelines. We’ll feel a sense of delight when we’re doing things that are right for us. This is what freedom’s about!
Use your preferences to guide your actions. If you love animals and are moved to tears during the commercials about cold, starving dogs, take action to adopt one from a shelter and give it your love and home. But, don’t take on the guilt that you can’t rescue them all. If you’re called to do more, volunteer in the shelter, or get involved with their fundraising.
I believe there’s a healthy balance we can reach to survive in peace and prosperity. It has to do with our unique creation. Be aware that you and I are incredibly unique individuals. We’re made with distinct abilities, often called gifts. We live in environments that limit what we can do and yet reveal open doors that others don’t have. Since I’m an elderly school teacher, I can crochet baby blankets for my favorite charity and not feel guilty that I’m not joining a marathon to support the same cause.

This is one of our best tools. Take advantage of your natural talents and skills. Use them as a boundary for what you need or should get involved in. If someone is pushing you to get involved in an area where you aren’t qualified to make an impact- don’t. Unless you have the time, money, and passion to dive into an unknown genre, let someone else do that. Guilt isn't necessary either. Be thankful that God created so many people with diverse abilities and trust that the right ones will step up and handle their part. Just like they can trust you in your skill zone. Seasons of life will affect the levels of your contributions. Younger adults tend to have vibrant energy to pour into a cause, but older adults have life experience and accrued wisdom. THE HEALING POWER OF NATURE I am sure many of you have experienced feeling refreshed after spending time in nature. If you are someone who has not, you must try it sometime. Being in nature is like a natural chill pill. It helps calm us down when we're feeling stressed or anxious, and it's great for giving our minds a break from all the noise and mind chatter of our daily lives. Just taking a short walk outside can make a big difference in how we feel, making us less worried and more grateful for the world around us.
BEING IN NATURE IS ALSO REALLY GOOD FOR OUR BODIES. It can help lower our blood pressure, reduce our chances of getting sick, and even help us sleep better at night. Whether we're taking a stroll through the park, listening to the leaves rustle in the wind, or just soaking up the sun under a tree, nature has this amazing power to make us feel refreshed and ready to take on the world. For those of you who may be living in a concrete jungle, I recommend having plants in your home; that is the next best thing you can have to nature.
I have a student who is an empath who lives in a condo building and often feels bombarded by the energy of the people living in the building. She often feels ill and does not know why. Since she was not aware that she is an empath, she often landed in the hospital feeling ill and not able to find the reason why. During our sessions, I suggested that if she has no access to a park or water the best thing she could do is draw the healing energy from her house plant to help her. In doing so, not only was she feeling better but her plant started to thrive beautifully too. She was so excited to share that she no longer feels the need to go to the hospital emergency department.
INCORPORATING ECOTHERAPY INTO DAILY LIFE Fortunately, embracing the healing power of nature doesn't require a drastic lifestyle change or a trek to the wilderness. Simple, everyday activities like gardening, birdwatching, or taking a walk in a local park can provide an opportunity to reconnect with the natural world and reap the benefits of Ecotherapy. Just as I have mentioned, we can simply have some houseplants if we do not have time or access to a park when we need to recharge ourselves. By being mindful and intentional in our interactions with nature, we can enhance the therapeutic effects of these experiences. Whether it's pausing to savour the fragrance of a flower, feeling the warmth of the sun on our skin, or listening to birds singing, every moment spent in nature is an opportunity for healing and renewal.
Holistic Wellness and Mind Body Soul Balance
37
CHALLENGES AND CONSIDERATIONS While the benefits of Ecotherapy are undeniable, accessing nature-based therapy can pose challenges for some individuals. Urbanization, limited access to green spaces, and physical disabilities are just a few of the barriers that may prevent people from fully engaging with nature. We must work to address these barriers and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to experience the healing power of nature, regardless of their circumstances. Lastly, as we get into Ecotherapy, we need to remember to treat nature with love and care. It's super important to think about protecting the environment and making sure we're not harming it as we try to feel better ourselves. We need to make sure we're using eco-friendly practices and thinking about how we can keep nature healthy for the future. So, in a nutshell, nature is like our own personal chill zone. It's where we can go to escape all the craziness of life and feel better. Whether it's through Ecotherapy or just taking a walk in the woods, spending time in nature can really help us relax and recharge. We should feel grateful to Mother Nature for the healing power that it provides us and not take it for granted.

How We Treat Others Our attachments and Expectations
Do you hold an expectation for how others ‘should’ treat you? Recently I came across an email attempting to sell me something, what, I don’t recall, but it wasn’t out of the ordinary as most of the emails sent to me are trying to sell something. What was uncharacteristic though was I decided to click on it. Upon reading, I stopped when I came to a part that talked about how this person (I cannot recall who they were), realized that after spending their life attempting to treat others how they wanted to be treated came to a conclusion that other people did not necessarily want to be treated as such. I paused, not reading any further, and gave this some thought, before moving onto other tasks. By the end of the day, I had forgotten it completely, until the following day when I received my own insight around the thought. I too was taught to treat others how I’d like to be treated, and I feel I’ve done this quite well over the years, give or take some triggered moments.
The interesting part of the insight dropping in, was that the concept of treating others how you want to be treated holds fairly strong feelings of attachment and expectation that is actually quite misleading.
How so? Well, if we are treating others how we want to be treated, we are assuming they will return the gesture as a sign of good faith because it is the ‘right thing to do’. However, I have come to understand, based on the wisdom gathered from several resources, that everyone is existing in their own reality, with a collective aspect tying us together, where we each experience our own lessons and their unraveling. So, one could conclude that it would not be easy to determine how each person feels or perceives what their ideal treatment is. How could we fully know how someone else wants to be treated unless we were to ask them first, and even they may not fully know?
I feel the phrase, ‘Treat others as you’d like to be treated’ has more to do with us and our own state of being then it does with others.
Holistic Wellness and Mind Body Soul Balance
41
What I mean by this is that how we treat others and how we treat ourselves is more important than how this treatment is returned to us.
The act of treating someone with kindness, respect, and love is not about what you gain from the interaction, it’s more about how you show up in the world, and how you support yourself despite the treatment from other people. I’m continually reminded that the way people act around me are merely them acting out their own unprocessed pain and hurts, and if I’m triggered by it or notice it, then it is an invitation to love the behaviour more deeply in myself. Or I’m noticing it as a way to help heal the behaviour in the collective by sending it love, gratitude, etc.; in essence, I’m holding space for it to play out what it needs to. Years ago, I was presented with the concept that life is a play and everyone in it is merely a character acting out a long-forgotten story. I’ve kept this in the back of my mind and when things get crazier than normal, I do my best to remember, we’re all characters in this grand play of life, each acting out our part. Sometimes we’ll be the unconscious bully and other times it’ll be another character playing our bully, but in the end this reminder helps bring a sense of ease, forgiveness, and grace to the circumstances I find myself in, whether they be preferred or not.
42
Moreover, I treat others how I want to be treated, not because I expect others to do the same. I do it because it makes me feel good, it makes my heart sing to share a smile, or conversation with a stranger, or offer assistance if I’m able, or just to do something that makes my whole being swell with love, without any attachments to what I may or may not get back.
Life is not about winning or losing, it is about the conscious choices you get to make which help you show up in this human life for yourself that ultimately assists your soul further along its own spiritual path. Thus, if you find yourself getting caught up in the attachment or expectation of others not treating you kindly despite your efforts, remember people can only meet you where they’re at. They’re dealing with their own pain and hurts and their role is not to stroke your ego, or make you feel good about yourself. Their role is to help you unravel more of your own beliefs, attachments, and emotions, so you can awaken deeper into the remembrance of your true divine brilliance.
And if we get to the point where we’ve healed and integrated enough of our own ‘shit’, that we can then hold the space of love for those guided our way, consider yourself blessed with this incredibly precious gift, as not everyone will be so lucky to get to this point.
One last thing to note, when we notice others’ unconscious behaviour that leaves us feeling baffled, wondering how they could act in such a way, this is a recognition / confirmation of how far we’ve come on our own journey. For we too used to be like that said person, maybe not in this particular life, but at some point, along our souls’ journey we were. Acknowledging this allows us to celebrate more of our own successes, for we are all growing, we’re just at different points on this cycle of growth, which is beautiful in and of itself!

In the end, may the phrase, ‘Treat others as you’d like to be treated’ become a guide to help you measure how you are treating yourself and where you are along your journey, instead of using it as a guide to confirm the insensitivity and cruelty of others. Here’s to our continued success in the unraveling of our attachments and expectations! In Loving Service, Theresa Stone

WORKING WITH YOUR BIOFIELD CONSCIOUSLY You are present on our beautiful Earth at one of the most momentous times our human family has ever experienced. There is a massive acceleration in consciousness. We are growing and evolving at increasing intensity. And all of this is being accompanied by just as massive chaos. Many folks are evolving to the point where it is necessary to work with our energy and Biofield (the scientific term for aura or auric field) CONSCIOUSLY and RESPONSIBLY. In 1992 a committee of specialists in Complementary, Alternative and Integrative medicine gathered to define the field of Biofield Science and to have the National Institutes of Health accept it as a viable area of research. This research will provide an expanded understanding of foundations of biology and also energy medicine. The term Biofield was defined by the committee as “a massless field, not necessarily electromagnetic, that surrounds and permeates living bodies and affects the body.”
What have we learned so far about the Biofield? Here is a short list of information available about the Biofield but it is a good start. a. More information about the human energy field is emerging from the scientists involved with the Foundation for Alternative and Integrative Medicine (FAIM). In her article, “Measurement of the Human Biofield and Other Energetic Instruments” Beverly Rubik, PhD states: “The human body emits low-level light, heat, and acoustical energy; has electrical and magnetic properties; and may also transduce energy that cannot be easily defined by physics and chemistry. All of these emissions are part of the human energy field, also called the biologic field, or Biofield. http://www.faim.org/measurement-of-thehuman-%20Biofield-and-other-energeticinstruments
b. The Biofield consists of higher frequencies of light. The colours of chakras were measured by Valerie Hunt and her instruments. c. We know that the Biofield is non-local, or not physical as we experience it. It is constantly in motion. d. The field created by the heart as measured by the scientists at HeartMath Institute is a part of this overall Biofield. The heart’s field carries emotional information and can be sensed by others. e. The Biofield includes the chakras and meridian systems. f. The Biofield also consists of what we might call the mind field that flows throughout the body and beyond.
Holistic Wellness and Mind Body Soul Balance
45
g. The Biofield connects directly with the endocrine system at a physical level and to universal energy or universal awareness or mind at the non-local level. h. The Biofield carries emotional energy within it and expands or contracts with our emotions. Positive feelings expand the field; negative feelings contract the field. So do thoughts. It is essential to become an avid student of your thoughts. i. Whatever you experience through your senses is registered in your Biofield first, then the body.
Healing the Biofield An early pioneer in Biofield studies, Dr. Valerie V. Hunt, talked about what organizes the Biofield.
“The human energy field is organized around emotions. When emotions become disturbed and distorted the energy field suffers, it becomes anticoherent, flighty.” If we allow our emotions to fly about willy nilly, so will our energy field! So, what can we do to support the health and wellbeing of the Biofield and ultimately our whole being? Here are a few tips. Please note that these tips are just a start. They are not a comprehensive solution. They are not ‘instant’ solutions. They are a powerful beginning to overall health and wellbeing.
46
1. Mindfulness Mindfulness is essential. Expand your awareness of how your emotional state translates to your field. When you are frustrated or angry, tune in to the energy just outside your skin or notice how the people around you are responding to you. When you are happy and calm, tune in to the energy just outside your skin or notice how the people around you are responding to you. Also, notice how you respond to others around you who are frustrated or calm. Expand your awareness!
2. Understand how your experience is coloured by your perception. Our understanding from Dr. Valerie Hunt research is that our perception is coloured by the flowing and dynamic energy of the Biofield and especially the emotional energy that is organizing it. Ask yourself – Are you the kind of person who tends to worry a lot? Or are you usually pretty calm? This will tell you how anticoherent or coherent your Biofield is. “Perceptual Intelligence is the knowledge and understanding that everything we experience (especially thoughts and feelings) are defined by our perception. It’s important to realize that this is an active, not passive, process and therefore we have the ability to control it or change it.” (from “Perceptual Intellegence” by Marisa Broughton, Ayrmetes, Advanced Cognitive Technologies website.
3. Sound can be a powerful way to bring coherence to your Biofield. Sound is a physical energy that pushes against your atoms as it travels through you. Sound and music nourish the Biofield. There are many ways to use sound to create coherence in the Biofield. Some of them are: Music that you find deeply relaxing and peaceful. Nature sounds. Certain sound tools like tuning forks, Tibetan or crystal singing bowls and others will shift the frequencies of the body, nervous system and Biofield to resonate to more coherent frequencies. Your own voice is a powerful way to shift the frequencies of your body, nervous system and Biofield to resonate more coherently.
Our Fundamentals of Healing with Sound and Music program gives you knowledge and experience in healing music, perceptual intelligence, sound tools and your own voice to create peace and coherence.

JEANNIE VASSOS
Meditation 101: Do we really need to do it? Have you heard that you should meditate? While it sounds like a good thing to do, how do you do it, and will it really make any difference in your life? Our brains process over 350,000 pieces of information every minute, some say that with the influences of technology the number is even higher now. As well, we are living in exciting and devastating times where our emotions are being triggered continually. Is it any wonder that our thoughts go out of control, anxiety is heightened, and we cannot find a moment of peace or calm?
Our brain has 4 major brainwave states: Beta – when you need to be fully aware, such as operating large machinery Alpha – daydreaming, being in a creative state, (usually when you are highway driving where you can always go back into Beta immediately), doing something repetitive and able to think of something else at the same time Theta – medium sleep, where you usually can remember your dreams Delta – deep sleep The practice of meditation is to build a kind of “muscle memory”, so you can take yourself out of Beta easily, when needed, and be less overwhelmed by intrusive and unproductive thoughts.
The first thing you need to do is to make time, which can be as little as 2 minutes. Begin by setting aside that time (and set a timer) and say to yourself “I have nowhere else to be and nothing else to do right now”. Next, recognize that when our body is uptight our mind will also not be able to be calm. The best way to begin relaxing our body is by breathing. There are many different breathwork techniques available, however, it is always beneficial to start with 3 deep breathes, in through the nose and out through the mouth. Imagine pure, clean air coming into your lungs, but also imagine it travelling to all parts of your body. And as you breathe out, imagine everything you don’t need (physical, mental, or emotional) going out along with it. Begin breathing normally, and take a few moments to “listen” to your breathing. You may not hear anything, but by trying, you’ll be automatically paying more attention to your breathing. (relaxation hack right there)
Holistic Wellness and Mind Body Soul Balance
49
You may be familiar with the yogic practice of relaxing parts of your body, from your feet to your head, by connecting to all of your body and instructing each part to relax (toes relax, feet relax…). You are in charge of YOU, right? Once your body feels relaxed it’s time for your mind to empty. You can imagine wind or water taking away all the unnecessary thoughts. Spend a few minutes doing this. The purpose of your mind IS to have thoughts, but in order to manage them, you need to avoid engaging in all of them. Your thoughts can be contemplated AFTER you’re done meditating.
As well, remember that you can be in a meditative state while doing other things, moving meditations such as walking, dancing, exercising, and also something as simple as chopping vegetables, doing dishes, or vacuuming. Meditation is something we naturally do, and becoming proficient by practicing regularly helps you become less reactive, be drama-free, choose more wisely, be able to focus clearly, trust your intuition, and more…to ultimately move through your life with more ease.
While people feel that emptying your mind is difficult, actually “focusing” tends to be more challenging. When you focus on something in meditation, you are training your brain so that when you are living daily life, you are able to focus on your tasks and conversations without your unnecessary internal distractions. Choose something positive and continue to focus all your attention on it. Use all of your senses to explore it. Have a goal to spend as long as you can in this focused state. Now that you’ve done the prep work of reducing the outside world, you can begin to explore your inner world and meditate with intention. You can just stay in this quiet place, you can passively wait for new information to come to you, or you can actively have a purpose, perhaps to get inspiration to solve a problem or create something new in your life. You are also able to explore the spiritual world and other dimensions, the possibilities are endless.
50
And finally, there are many meditations online, the only caveat is to be aware of what kind of meditation you’re listening to. A guided meditation should bring you into Alpha or Theta, and then bring you back to Beta so you can go on with your day. If you’re wanting to listen to something to help you get to sleep, ensure that is the purpose of it, otherwise, you may be brought back into the active/Beta state when you really just wanted to fall asleep. There is so much more to meditation than only this, however, moving forward, be aware that peace and calm are REQUIRED for your wellbeing. Start with ONE aspect you can fit in to your life and BUILD upon it. Soon enough you’ll be able to access the meditative brain wave states while even in a busy airport. Imagine that!
