Our Foundation Certificate in Injury Prevention, Te Aho Tapu, has been designed to give you the best possible start in the field of injury prevention. It is offered in conjunction with Injury Prevention Aotearoa and the Ministry of Health and will help you to promote safe living, working and recreational environments. WE CAN HELP YOU IMPROVE THE STATISTICS Injury is a major problem for New Zealand but this can be addressed. You will learn: • The size of the injury issue worldwide • Come to understand unintentional and intentional injury • How to access injury research data • The basics required to deliver an injury prevention programme • The impact of injury on the public health system • The social and economic costs of injury • How to work in communities at greater risk of injury • How to influence decision-makers in the injury prevention section.
EVERYONE WILL BENEFIT This qualification has been designed for people working in areas such as public health, childcare, community development or road and workplace safety. You will also personally benefit from the skills you’ll gain from this qualification because you will be able to promote injury prevention to your family and friends. You will learn about Hauora – the Mäori philosophy of health and well-being, taught to young people to help them understand their well-being. It is based on the four walls of the whare (meeting house) and how these represent health, self-confidence, self-esteem and personal beliefs.
