The Glomma festival

June / July

www.glommafestivalen.no Right from its beginnings, the festival has focused on its maritime culture and the importance of the Glomma river. The Glomma is Norway’s longest river and runs right through the city and has historical significance for the city’s development. Nearly every event has a free entrance. The most spectacular event is The Glomma River Duel, a fun and popular race on the river with the most creative floating crafts you ever have seen! - everything made of cardboard. Glommafestivalen is an experience like no other!

The historical festival takes place each year during the last weekend of May. Military companies from Norway, Sweden and Denmark take out with our local military company “ King Fredrik IV military company of 1704”. The event marks King Fredrik IV of Denmark’s arrival to Fredrikstad in 1704. The military heritage companies build a camp and craftsmen and the soldier’s families join the scene. Stroll through a lively market with local and historical products for sale. There are also enjoyable activities for kids. Fortified Town, City of Fredrikstad
