OI China PRAYER LETTER February 2010
“They will tell of the power of your awesome works, and I will proclaim your great deeds. They will celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness.” ~ Psalm 145:6, 7 (NIV)
About two months ago, OIC met Mr. Yang the owner of a local decorative purse making business. Through his 3-step manufacturing process (much of which takes place in individual households) he employs over 406 people, mostly women and many of which are 60 years and older. His workers (pictured above) are very thankful as many are physically frail and would be unable to work under normal circumstances. One worker commented, “My job is great! I just work until I can’t do it anymore & then I rest…I don’t have to ask my children for financial support and I can save money to give to my grandchild.” With his recent loan from OIC, Mr Yang will expand his operations and employ dozens more households in the area.
At the young age of 16, Mr. Han began working in a clothing factory. After several years of on the job training, in 2004 he decided to leverage his new knowledge and begin his own clothing factory. After much hard work and gradual expansion, Mr. Han grew his business to employ 20 local people (mostly women). Lacking the capacity to fill the orders he was receiving, in 2009 Mr. Han applied and was approved for a 30,000 RMB loan from OIC. Using the loan, he was able to double his production capacity, adding 20 new machines and employing 20 new workers! Through his efforts and partnership with OIC more local people have the chance to learn the garment making trade and to transform their lives the same way Mr. Han has.
Praises & Thanksgivings: •
Praise the Lord for OI China’s recent Insight Trip to Suqian! Over the course of the weekend, sponsors and supporters from the United States, Europe, and Hong Kong experienced how God takes care of people in China through the hands of OI China. Visiting small scale chicken and pig farms and village-level manufacturing businesses, they saw the loving kindness He gives to the rural farmers and elderly people.
•
Thank God for wisdom and direction for 2010. After a thorough evaluation of 2009 and much prayer and thought, OIC is, by God’s grace, excited to implement its 2010 Operational Plan.
Prayer Requests: •
Ask Him to bless the children who will take part in Winter English Camp. For many, OIC’s winter and summer camps are the only chance they have to study English with native speakers. Pray that through these efforts, OI China’s clients and their children will experience God’s love and grace.
•
Pray for health and physical renewal for OI China’s management team.
•
Pray for OI China’s staff as they prepare for the Chinese New Year. Ask for travel mercies as they return to their hometowns to celebrate and for a blessed and precious time with their families.
