Purpose Of The Programme

The Opportunity Group believe that technical skills cannot be optimised without additional human skills such as positive communication, resilience and confidence. We have therefore designed a programme that combines the technical capability of cyber security and the additional human skills that will hep the learners to talk about their abilities in interviews and aspire to apply for jobs. The aim of the programme is to bring all learners up to a standard where they can determine if a role in cyber security is for them and if it is, have the confidence to apply and interview for a role.

The demand for cyber skills has increased by 60% in 2022 and we know that the DCMS has highlighted the need for cyber professionals as a focus for 2023 and beyond.

Our presumption is that the role they start will have continued development such as an apprenticeship or an entry level role with training on the job but the successful leaver of our bootcamp will be an attractive hire for any company looking to hire entry level cyber technicians.

Programme Delivery

The cyber skills bootcamp is a 10 week programme embedding a mixture of cyber and human skills. Each week there will be two, 1 hour virtual workshops on either human or cyber skills and there will also be discussion groups in smaller groups of 5-7 for learners to discuss ways they have applied the learning into their life or their own speci c challenges. We are also giving each learner access to ‘Try HackMe’a phone based app that enables learners to practice their skills in a gami ed way, winning points and rising through levels of competency.

The bootcamp will start and end with a 1:1 check in where the learner will follow the Hero Wellness scale of social justice outcomes and also speak to a coach about their personal aspirations and journey.

Learners will receive certificates of attendance and completion. Progress will be measured both in technical capability but also social justice outcomes such as con dence, communication, attendance, participation and timekeeping.

“Really interesting and I didn’t think I would enjoy the course as much as I did. I would now consider a role in IT and Cyber Security.”
