2023
The Australian Percussion Eisteddfod is an event which is committed to serving the percussion community by providing the opportunity for school aged students to perform in a competition that embraces most areas of drumline and percussion – tuned and untuned - in solo and ensemble categories.
Optimum Percussion would like to thank all the teachers and parents who have supported the event this year . The 2023 event was held at Scotch College Melbourne and I would like to thank the school and the percussion department - Jude Hallum, Leon Duncan and Harry Potocnick for their hard work and contribution to the success of the event.
Carolyn Watson ConvenorWhy perform in a competition?
We want you to make the most of this event as a positive learning experience so you will continue your percussion studies for as long as possible. Here is a summary of how the Australian Percussion Eisteddfod and Drumline competition has and will assist you with your percussion studies and musical experiences.
1.The Australian Percussion Eisteddfod provides a performance opportunity which can assist in faster musical growth and self improvement, especially if the eisteddfod is one of many performance and competition opportunities you perform in.
2. Competitions help performers to achieve more focused practicing and give you the opportunity to truly master every aspect of a piece of music.
3. Not everyone can win first place, but being involved in the Percussion Eisteddfod can still teach valuable lessons. Mistakes, failures, and feedback can help us to grow from these experiences, to identify new areas to focus upon and develop new goals. The adjudicator’s reports and our own self assessment and feed back about our performance can also affirm how successfully we have conveyed our musical thoughts.
4. Hearing our peers perform unfamiliar and exciting repertoire can encourage us to set new goals and directions for ourselves.
5.“The definition of a winner is someone who gives 100% of their effort in preparation for and during competition 100% of the time, regardless of the circumstances faced before them. Winning involves more than beating an opponent or the final score on the board. A person can be a winner as long as they give everything they’ve got”. (David Villa)
