Supported by the UK government, Opus is investing in research with Nottingham Trent University to develop technology that can detect the level of rust from up to 100m away. This could save tens of millions of pounds a year in costs and remove the need for potentially dangerous inspections.

Surveying services
Assisting the Environment Agency Opus continues to provide surveying services to the EA. A focus of the work is assessing levels for flood risk assessment, as well as service clearance for site investigation. Asset Management at University of Portsmouth This project involved mapping drainage at 76 buildings, as part of an asset management programme to enable the university to take a proactive approach to maintenance. CCTV survey • Confined space entry • Traffic management •
Setting Out for alternative energy plant Opus worked on the 38MW Sleaford Renewable Energy Plant, which generates sufficient electricity to power 65,000 homes per year. •

Virtual reality for arts centre
Canada - north to west survey
The Orangery Arts Centre in Wakefield was refurbished to encourage greater public participation in the arts and Opus worked on an initiative to allow online visitors to take a virtual tour of the grounds.
Surveyors in Canada undertook a survey of a 1236km of the administrative boundary between the Northwest Territories and Nunavut Mining Districts. The technology required was at the very cutting edge of innovation.

Supporting United Utilities on AMP6 Framework Opus is working with United Utilities on the AMP6 framework which will continue until 2020. The sites range from public highways, public land, industrial sites and urban housing estates. Final deliverables including AutoCAD 3D DWG, 2D DWG, Local Grid and National Grid deliverables. Driving tourism in Australian outback The Tanami Road in remote northern Australia is known as one of the worst roads in the country. The topographic survey is part of Opus' project to design the upgrade of a section of the road from unsealed to sealed. •

Rebuilding Liberia’s roads After years of civil unrest, developing a 10 year output performance-based road contract with the World Bank is slowly restoring Liberia’s standing. For the Infrastructure Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Public Works (Liberia) Opus provided supervision, contract management, quality assurance, auditing and asset management systems.
