Figures reportedly released by INEC recently showed that of the six geo-political zones, the South East recorded the least number of registered voters. According to the figures, the number of registered voters in the country by zone as of January 2018 stood at North West-18m, South West-14m, North Central-11m, South South -10m, North East 9m and South East 8m. With 8m votes, the South East has a whopping 10m registered voters less than those of the North West and 6m less than the South West, the two other zones in the major language groups. Where is Kanu?, Court asks T
HE trial of Nnamdi Kanu, Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)that was adjourned last December to 20 February 2018, has been further adjourned to March 28. The central issue is the whereabouts of Kanu, who has not been seen since the military invasion of his home in Isiama, Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia, on 14 September 2017. Justice Nyako had at a previous sitting asked Senator Abaribe, surety for Kanu, to produce him in court, to which Abaribe responded that the army, which invaded Kanu’s home should bear the responsibility of producing him. He sued the army, in addi-
tion to filing an application to lift the burden of producing Kanu and continuing as his surety, from him. The judge has given the adjourned date for Kanu’s sureties to produce him in court. Abaribe last December brought a motion on notice pursuant to Section 6 (6) a) (b); 36 (1) of the 1999 Constitution, and Sections 177 (1) & 179 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015.
