Mum’s the Word Make your mother’s day with The Royals
M
other’s Day, on Sunday 30th March, is the perfect excuse to spoil your mum rotten. And there’s no better place to pick up the perfect present, or treat her to a shopping spree and lunch, than The Royals Shopping Centre.
Over the years gemstones have come to represent particular months, making them ideal for commemorating important family events. At Sarah Beth Jewellers you’ll find an extensive range of earrings, necklace or ring made with your mother’s gemstone and the latest designs from Trollbeads, Citizen and Hot Diamonds.
The bright and bustling heart of Southend’s High Street, The Royals offers an exciting blend offamous-name stores and independent boutiques, making it the ideal destination for serious retail therapy whilst snugly protected from the elements by the spectacular glass-domed roof.
How often have you heard a busy, hard-pressed mum say there aren’t enough hours in the day? As Mothering Sunday is all about making time for someone special, a fine watch or clock from Tik Tok could be just what you’re looking for.
Unique Pieces
Designers at affordable prices
For mums of all ages, jewellery always makes a wonderful present to show you care. So a visit to Pandora to check out their exquisitely hand -finished jewellery is a must. Always hugely popular are Pandora’s signature bracelets, which give you the opportunity to create unique pieces, from their extensive selection of charms.
Of course, if you’re taking your mum out for the evening and you both have “nothing to wear”, you’ve found the perfect excuse to visit The Royals. TK-Maxx offers designer labels at affordable prices. With a huge range for every possible occasion - located over two floors - plus a unique selection of gift items, there’s plenty to pick for the mum who loves to party, garden or cook! If she loves the outdoors or is sporty - like Sochi superstar, Jenny Jones - then make a bee-line for Animal and X-Isle. Just a few steps away you can explore the fabulous fashions in Primark. For the style conscious mum (not forgetting a treat for you) then visit Miss Wish Boutique. It’s a fashionista’s paradise, stocking the latest fashions and ontrend looks, plus celebrity-inspired collections. Mother’s Day is also a great way to get mum’s preparations for summer well under way.

The Card Factory stocks a huge selection of greetings cards - and gifts that are perfectly priced for pocket-money shoppers - plus wrapping paper, ribbon and more. The Royals has all the shops you need for your perfect shopping trip and the best Mother’s Day ever.

Fabulous at 40 I
f you missed all the hullaballoo recently, you’ll be relieved to know that Kate Moss has still got ‘it’. How to look fabulous when you hit the big ‘four oh’ hit the headlines when the UK’s favourite supermodel turned 40. OK, not all of us possess the genes and cheekbones that have made La Moss one of the world’s most beautiful women but you can ease the passage of time and look sensational without spending a fortune.
Fishy business Cod Liver Oil is extremely beneficial for dry, ageing skin, as well as joints, hair, nails and digestive system. Take it daily.
Making up is not hard to do Use a primer, as it gives a lovely smooth base for makeup, hides uneven colour and blemishes. Foundation is a must for anyone over 35 who wants to hide uneven tone and bring lost light back to their face.
Fringe benefits
Here comes the Sun
Fringes are very youthful, not just because they’re fun and cool, but they also cover lines, wrinkles and pigmentation on your forehead. If you're worried about it looking harsh, get your stylist to cut into the line to soften it and flatter your face shape. As we get older, our hair becomes thinner and limper, so pick shampoos and conditioners that create the illusion of thicker, healthier hair.
Sunblock is still the most important and effective anti-ageing treatment. Make sure yours protects against UVA (primarily ageing) and UVB (primarily burning and cancer-causing) rays. Use one whenever you'll be spending extended periods outdoors, whatever the weather.
Stub it out
Not your daughter’s. Being 40 still means you can be naughty but remember, there are limits…
Smokers' skin ages faster. Nicotine causes blood vessels to narrow, which then impairs blood flow. As a result, your skin is deprived of oxygen and other nutrients that help it to stay young looking. The 4,000 chemicals in a single cigarette also damage collagen and elastin, the two main fibres that help skin retain elasticity. Even if you can't see the damage now, you will. Kate, sweetie, take note...

Health & Beauty
It ain’t what you do (It’s the way that you do it) ”
L
ack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and methodical physical exercise save it and preserve it” - Plato It’s a question I get asked all the time - what type of exercise is the most effective if you are trying to burn fat and lose weight? It’s not really what you do - but how you do it that makes all the difference
Low-intensity
Eat beforehand if possible as, whilst some folks believe they do better by exercising in a fasted state, others believe training on an empty stomach could lead to you burning not fat but muscle tissue, to convert into sugar for energy. Keep your sessions to a 20 or 30 minute maximum. You choose your own levels to work at, so be honest with yourself. If it’s too easy, step it up a level; if it’s too hard, just drop it down a bit. Your fitness level will improve over time.
Best Activity?
Low-intensity, long duration aerobic exercise, regardless of the activity, will help absolute beginners, but anybody with the most basic level of fitness is better off using interval training. High-intensity interval training burns more body fat by increasing your metabolic rate both during and after training – so you keep on losing weight, even when you’ve stopped training and started watching TV.
Interval Training Interval training involves alternating short bursts of hard effort (i.e. sprinting for 10-30 seconds) with easier periods (i.e. easy jogging for 30-90 seconds). Any combination of intervals can be used, utilising speeds, inclines or resistance levels.
And people always ask ‘what is the best activity?’ I say the one that you actually DO! Intervals can be performed on any piece of equipment – be it a bicycle, rowing machine, or even your own two legs whilst speed walking or running. Just choose a cardio activity that you like the most (or dislike the least) and give it your best effort! Remember, I offer a free consultation to anyone who is looking to make positive changes to their health and fitness. Contact me on 07803 042 070 or visit www.ramis-hf.com.
The earlier in the day you can train, the better, as this boosts your metabolism for the rest of it and maximizes the fat-burning effect.

Oracle Security
Are your belongings SAFE in your home or business?
F
ollowing last month’s issue where we featured ‘Know your ‘ABC’ of Security’ this month’s Free Security Advice is about the next step: Getting yourself a good safe”…
A} 1. Locks (Covered Last Month) 2. Safe/Security Boxes
B} 3. Alarm
against identity theft. Although it might be obvious, it’s important to lock up your vehicle keys too. A high percent of vehicle theft across the UK is primarily due to people not deadlocking their doors and the subsequent theft of car keys left either hanging up by the door or on the sideboard just inside the door.
C} 5. Laminated Glass/Bandit Film
With a huge range of safes & security boxes on the market the BIG question is “which one is right for me”. Getting the right safe or security box is vital, especially if you’re dealing with ‘wriggly’ insurance companies.
2. If you’ve now installed your high security locks you’re probably feeling a little safer than before but burglars can be somewhat determined so they’ll probably now ‘have a go’ at breaking a window to gain entry.
Remember NOT ALL SAFES ARE ‘SAFE’ so get your advice from a specialist who knows all that there is to know & not from a ‘general store’
4. CCTV
6. Grilles, Bars & or Roller Shutters
Once they’re in they’ll generally not take long to grab any valuables that are lying around which is why having a good quality safe is paramount. Most people think safes are only for jewellery, deeds, wills & large amounts of money & whilst this is true, you really need to secure the stuff that you might ordinarily leave scattered around such as passports, driving licenses & credit cards to help protect

Oracle Cycling
Middle aged men in lycra I
n male circles, middle age normally represents gaining weight, losing fitness, refusing to change and being very grumpy. This condition is known as the Manopause. There will be a time when the very big numbers on the bathroom scales force men into making a decision… get fit or stay fat!
New shiny bikes were purchased and at weekends the group would canter around the leafy, flat lanes of Essex clad in extraordinary colours, scaring local wildlife…….However, the idea of cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats initially seemed absurd when it was first casually discussed.
For a group of lifelong friends from Thorpe Bay and Leigh, all the wrong side of 50, this dilemma loomed large. Their glory days on the football and rugby pitches of Southend were distant memories, their hard won trophies gathering dust in attics and garages. When they swapped their shin pads for the sofa and their gum shields for Fruit ‘n Nut they were initiating the first stages of the dreaded manopause.
Impressive Challenge
Mindful of their enlarged girths, some tried marathon running which of course helped them lose weight but in many cases led to injuries too dreadful to describe in a family magazine. So the trainers were discarded and the biscuit tin was re-instated. Until the Eureka moment……which occurred while sitting outside the Angel Inn, when some of the group noticed a Middle Aged Man In Lycra thundering past the pub on a seriously slick looking bicycle. He looked fit, healthy and euphoric and this garishly attired athlete set off some curious minds. The friends would later conclude that cycling offered the option of getting fit and having a good time with your pals, just like the old days playing football!! Eureka indeed!!
34
ORACLE-ON-SEA
Gradually, as logistics for such an epic ride were investigated and as the cycling bug bit even deeper, the group decided to take on the challenge of cycling from one end of the country to the other, over 2 weeks in June this year. All arrangements have now been completed, work leave has been arranged, permission from spouses has been granted and a charity partner has been decided upon. That just leaves the fitness bit to sort out….more to follow in the coming months, and very importantly information about the charity Prostate Cancer that we intend to support through sponsorhip.

Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile! It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Chris Miller feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving people money, although
that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Southend, Leigh on Sea and Thorpe Bay areas DQG &KULV LV ÀQGLQJ WKDW his approach is a major
factor in his success.‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and family of people I’ve done work for,

It’s Back! Geneva Motor Show 2014 T
his year marks the 84th Geneva International Motor Show, which for the second year running we will be lucky enough to be visiting. From March 4th the show will host 65 press conferences over two days prior to the event being open to general public and for the third consecutive year will be announcing car of the year just before the press days begin. There will be 250 exhibitors presenting their latest offerings over 7 exhibition halls totalling 110,000 square meters, which last year attracted 690,000 visitors. In a survey carried out on 1,034 of last year’s visitors, most of them were ‘enthusiastic working males who love cars.’ The sections of this year’s motor show are as follows: Motor cars and chassis with 3, 4 or more wheels, electric and alternative powered cars. Special bodywork motor cars, design, engineering and refined cars. Accessories and parts for motor cars. Original equipment manufacturers. Workshop installations for repair and maintenance. SsangYong will be displaying a diesel/electric hybrid SUV concept XLV car. Vauxhall will debut
