Served with Dauphinoise potato (layered white and sweet potatoes), seasonal vegetables and drizzled with a red wine jus, it is not surprising to see – and taste – why. It is delicious. Alongside a variety of steaks, Micky has introduced game to the menu, “Whilst it’s in season, we’ve got

And after all, venison is the meat of kings. Ours is served 28-day aged and cooked to your liking before being served with home-made chips, Portobello mushrooms & grilled Roma tomato. It’s super healthy and the flavour is unbelievable! Henry VIII would certainly approve.” Being a seaside town, seafood is well represented Home smoked Haddock with Saffron Potato Salad, Crispy Quail and Egg & Haddock Chowder is a highlight of the starter menu. Amongst the main courses you will find a Hake Wellington – seasoned succulent fish is wrapped in Savoy Cabbage leaf that has been covered with Mushroom Duxelle then wrapped in light puff pastry and baked to perfection, before being served with curly kale, seafood cream and chorizo-infused oil. Pudding fans will love the Mango Charlotte. Set your taste buds for ‘Heaven on a spoon’ as they experience Sweet Mango Chutney and Raspberry Panna Cotta served with Strawberry and Cracked Black Pepper Compote. For those who prefer a ‘Yes, Yes, Yes’ setting, the divine Chocolate Truffle Torte finished with Winter Berry Compote really hits the spot… The customer comes first at 1935, as Micky explains: “Whether you’d prefer a simpler dish, have special dietary requirements or just fancy something that’s not on the menu, please just ask. We work with the local community and partner organisations to deliver high quality health and wellbeing sessions to children, young people, families, adults and older people. Active Life delivers a wide range of programmes which complement and support existing services, thereby avoiding any unnecessary duplication of valuable resources. Sessions are delivered in partnership with Healthy Schools, Local Authorities, the NHS and Active Essex. 1. Locks: Your locks will be the first point of attack so it’s vitally important that you’ve got the very best. It might be surprising to know that around 80% of British homes have ‘Euro Cylinder’ locks installed that offer very poor security.

These cylinders aren’t very strong at all and are prone to attack by snapping, drilling and other methods and can result in a burglar getting in to your premises within 10 to 15 seconds! If that isn’t SCARY enough it should also be shocking to hear that Insurance Companies won’t pay out if you’re burgled and you have the wrong types of locks (Ouch)! That’s why it’s always best to check your insurance documentation or call them direct as they often specify a particular type of lock. New ‘TS007’ Security standards are on the way so make sure you’re covered. Another dreadful statistic is that a disturbing amount of people do not lock their doors properly, thinking that ‘pulling the door to’ is sufficient; in short… IT’S NOT! This casual approach has led to a marked increase in burglary across the country, especially in Essex, and is very easy to remedy if you simply deadlock your door. recipe of the month In the Kitchen with Judy Barden

1. Preheat the oven to 190c/170 fan/gas 5. Grease and line a 900g/2lb loaf tin. 2. In a large mixing bowl or electric mixer beat the butter and sugar for a few minutes until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually add the golden syrup, vanilla bean paste and melted chocolate, beating well. 3. Sift the flour, bicarb and cocoa powder into a bowl and add a third of the dry mixture to the wet and beat well. Add the half of the boiling water, then half the remaining dry ingredient and beat again. Add the remaining water and dry ingredient and beat again. 4. Pour the batter into the prepared tin and bake for 30 minutes. Reduce the heat to 170c/fan 150/ gas 3 ½ and bake for a further 35-40 minutes until a skewer comes out almost clean. Don’t worry if a bit sticky. Remove from the oven and leave to cool in the tin then transfer to a serving plate.

5. To decorate, mix the icing sugar with enough water to form a thick paste. Add the colouring and mix well. Spread over the cooled cake and top with sugared rose petals. It’s Back! Geneva Motor Show 2014 T

his year marks the 84th Geneva International Motor Show, which for the second year running we will be lucky enough to be visiting. From March 4th the show will host 65 press conferences over two days prior to the event being open to general public and for the third consecutive year will be announcing car of the year just before the press days begin. There will be 250 exhibitors presenting their latest offerings over 7 exhibition halls totalling 110,000 square meters, which last year attracted 690,000 visitors. In a survey carried out on 1,034 of last year’s visitors, most of them were ‘enthusiastic working males who love cars.’ The sections of this year’s motor show are as follows: Motor cars and chassis with 3, 4 or more wheels, electric and alternative powered cars. Special bodywork motor cars, design, engineering and refined cars. Accessories and parts for motor cars. Original equipment manufacturers. Workshop installations for repair and maintenance. SsangYong will be displaying a diesel/electric hybrid SUV concept XLV car. Vauxhall will debut

From ICT to Computing T he Government is making changes to education which mean that, as from September 2014, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) will no longer exist! Out goes ICT and in comes Computing. Not only does the name change but so does much of the content. With the introduction of computer science, there will be much more about programming and a far greater emphasis on giving students knowledge and understanding about computation and digital technology. What is Computing? Whereas ICT is more or less about when and how to use computers, Computing teaches pupils about their design and how they are best employed. Studying Computing will develop pupilsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; ability to think like computer scientists and help them to think through situations in a â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;computationalâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; way. They will be encouraged to deconstruct problems and then use abstraction, algorithms and patterns to help find solutions. 62

Computing applies to virtually every aspect of life, so it can be explicitly tied to a whole variety of student interests.Many students are already extremely familiar with digital devices or are passionate about virtual design. Pedagogically, computer programming has the same relation to studying computing as playing an instrument does to studying music or painting does to studying art.
