welcome

Happy Mother’s Day

It’s a very sweet Sweet 16 for us, and it appropriately coincides with Mother’s Day. As a mother, it’s rewarding and humbling when your child decides to join you in your profession or passion project. Kate was with me in the beginning — she was in college, and I was hatching big dreams. The fact that she is still here is beyond those dreams.

We work well together most days but have settled into our own lanes. We both write, develop story ideas, create and grow events, and sell advertising and sponsorships. But she manages many of the event details and logistics, social media accounts, and partnership relations. I do more of the creative tasks — designing ads and editorial pages, photography, big-picture visioning, content for the magazines and programming for the events. We have different schedules — I am often on my laptop at 5am and she is more likely to be up at 10pm — but that serves us both well.

It has been a joy to watch her bloom not only here with me but also as a mother to her own children. And speaking of children — I have a son, Nick, who is not in the spotlight, but no less loved and appreciated. My husband and I are thrilled that they both

seem to enjoy being around us, and we hope that continues. As you have probably followed, we are proud grandparents to four wonderful kids who are now 8, 7, 6 and 4. Grateful and blessed are my daily mantras.

On behalf of our family, we would like to wish you an incredibly Happy Mother’s Day! And we thank you for another year of Appeal Media & Events Group.

The Rose Society Supports Kids Beating Cancer

The Rose Society of Kids Beating Cancer hosted another fabulous event on April 5 at the Four Seasons Resort Orlando raising more than $325,000 and featuring Italian couture by The Saks Fifth Avenue Club (see page 16).

The Rose Society is a group of dedicated women committed to the mission of Kids Beating Cancer. The main purpose of the committee is raising funds for Kids Beating Cancer’s mission through their promotion of the annual Hats & Roses Luncheon & Fashion Show.

The tragic death of one little boy 30 years ago could have been simply that, a tragic death. Instead, the short life of that little boy has inspired the Central Florida community to support Kids Beating Cancer to advocate for these children and their families, who only want what every parent wants: their child to be healthy, to beat cancer, and for the family to survive the long journey to a cure. Founded in 1992 by Margaret Guedes after the passing of her son to leukemia, Kids Beating Cancer has been carrying out its mission of providing access to life-saving treatments for children diagnosed with cancer, funding pediatric cancer research for improved outcomes, moving new discoveries to patient care, all while supporting children and their families throughout the treatment journey.

The Rose Society of Kids Beating Cancer was founded by Dr. Francelis I. Gonzalez, known to many as Dr. G. “My commitment to Kids Beating Cancer started years ago and is linked to

my career as a pediatric hematologist-oncologist. The road to recovery of pediatric patients affected with cancer is long. I understand that science and research is the key to discovering the cure to save lives. Together with purpose and passion, we are coming together for this amazing event that will fulfill the goal of raising funds for Kids Beating Cancer,” Dr. G says.

“As we look to the future, our vision is to advance research, bringing the latest treatments and clinical trials available worldwide to the bedside right here in Central Florida. We will continue investing in the development of improved methods to treat children diagnosed with cancer more safely, effectively and with fewer side effects, and to focus on advancing the most significant breakthroughs in the treatment of pediatric cancers that will offer the best hope of a cure to children with cancer worldwide,” explains Margaret Guedes.

MICHELLE JONES: Rocking the Music Industry

Founder of strings sensation Violectric — an acoustic and electric string ensemble — Michelle Jones has been keeping busy since we last featured her nearly 10 years ago.

She is a producer, instrumentalist, composer, recording artist, educator/speaker, and host of “Note-Worthy with Michelle Jones” (talk show); is the president of Cosplay Records; founder of the nonprofit Violectric Education Programs; and currently serves as Governor of The Recording Academy/GRAMMYs Florida Chapter Board, which recognizes excellence in the recording arts and sciences, cultivates the well-being of the music community, and ensures that music remains an indelible part of our culture.

“It is a huge honor to be elected by your colleagues and your peers to represent them in advocacy efforts, educational opportunities, and shaping the future of the music business.” Michelle says of her latest appointment.

She has always been an advocate for musicians and will serve in her two-year role advocating for creators’ rights, protecting musicians in need, and saving music in schools. In addition, she is president of Cosplay Records, a record label dedicated to capturing authentic instruments without midi or autotune, and founder of Violectric Education Programs, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to lifelong learning for students of all ages.

“In many cases, music education in schools is limited to playing an instrument or performing in an ensemble,” Michelle explains. “Teachers are often working with limited resources, overly full classrooms, and short periods of time to address the various topics of how to make a career in music. Violectric Education Programs are supplemental to current music educa-

tion, offering interactive workshops, master classes, and concerts with additional celebrity musicians on a variety of other music and arts topics, including, but not limited to: arranging and composing music, improvisation, amplifying and using electric instruments, recording techniques, contracts/riders, touring, band/artist management, marketing, websites/social media, choreography, show production, costuming, and many other areas in the business of music. VEP teaches how to make a career in music, not just learn to play an instrument.”

The first VEP concert last year brought in celebrity guest conductor Louis Clark, Jr. and partnered with 130+ students from local school orchestras and bands to present a free concert for more than 1,500 guests. Violectric Education Programs also has a video series of mini-lessons and concerts called “SPARKS,” available for free on its YouTube channel.

Most notably, Michelle is the founder and band leader of the rock string ensemble Violectric: Classic Musicians Who Rock who perform their proprietary arrangements of classic and modern popular music on their exclusive Violuminescence© LED electric instruments with LaserBows©. Michelle and Violectric musicians have performed thousands of unique concerts and events since forming in 2008.

In 2022, Violectric was declared House Band for City of Orlando by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. They are the first Artists in Residence at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts and are the Guest Performing Artists in Residence at The Neon Museum Las Vegas. Personally, Michelle can often be found recording, touring and performing as a special guest with Wayne Newton.

One of her latest passion projects is her talk show “Note-Worthy with Michelle Jones,” which she produces and hosts, and is available on several streaming platforms. Recorded in a live format, Michelle has an in-depth discussion and conversation with each guest, followed by a special short performance or video featuring that guest. Guests are encouraged to share their passions for life and overall well-being.

Michelle performs all over the world — from large celebrity events to weddings and educational master classes — documenting her journey on Instagram: @vinylinist

“Orlando has been my hometown for more than 30 years. It is an honor to be a part of our growing arts and cultural heritage, and I am so excited to see what’s next with our upcoming generations of artists and musicians.” she says.

Florida Prize in Contemporary Art Celebrates 10th Anniversary

The Florida Prize in Contemporary Art, the Orlando Museum of Art’s signature exhibition (June 1 – August 25), will celebrate its 10th anniversary, a milestone within the museum’s centennial anniversary celebration year. The selected artists for the 2024 exhibition are Mona Bozorgi, Tallahassee; Yanira Collado, Miami; Bernadette Despujols, Miami; Sheila Goloborotko, Jacksonville; Njeri Kinuthia, Orlando; Boy Kong, Orlando; Francesco Lo Castro, Miami; Carol Prusa, Miami; Jason Seife, Miami; and Onajide Shabaka, Miami. For the first time in Florida Prize history, two Orlando-based artists are part of the 10-artist lineup.

The popular exhibit, organized by the Orlando Museum of Art, brings new recognition to the state’s most progressive artists. Each year, OMA’s curatorial team surveys artists working throughout the state before inviting 10 to participate. One artist will receive a $20,000 award made possible with the generous support of local philanthropists Gail and Michael Winn. The exhibition is also sponsored in part by Nelson Mullins and Jeffrey and Caroline Blydenburgh.

The exhibition results from intensive research and review of hundreds of artists annually. While always limiting the selection to just 10 artists is difficult, it allows the museum to feature each artist in depth. Artists present multiple works from recent years or large-scale installations created on-site that give visitors a fuller understanding of their vision and accomplishment. As a survey exhibition, the Florida Prize always brings together artists of diverse backgrounds and varying practices. It is a snapshot of the state’s cultural vitality, as seen through some of the most captivating work done here and now.

The artist selected to receive the Prize will be announced at the opening party where guests will have the opportunity to cast a “People’s Choice” vote for their favorite artist, which includes a $2,500 award. Funds from the event will support the Florida Prize exhibition and OMA education programs. 2024floridaprize.eventbrite.com

EXHIBIT HIGHLIGHTS

Mona Bozorgi, an artistscholar whose interdisciplinary research and artistic practice explore the correlation between representation and performativity in photography, is an Iranianborn artist whose work confronts historical exclusions based on gender and explores the intersections of bodies and technology. Her recent project, Threads of Freedom, incorporates images taken by Iranian women themselves and shared on social media. Her work has been exhibited in numerous museums and galleries in the U.S. and internationally in Austria, England, Sweden, South Korea, and Iran, among others. She received her MFA in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design, and she is currently working on her doctoral dissertation in the interdisciplinary Fine Arts program at Texas Tech.

Njeri Kinuthia’s work is a powerful call to challenge cultural boundaries and redefine the role of women in society. Her work confronts the institutionalized cultural norms that control women’s identity and sexuality. Utilizing self-portraiture, the work serves as a mirror, reflecting on the artist’s own identity and experiences growing up in Kenya. She employs culturally significant fabrics to venture beyond the aesthetic and into symbolic dialogue — initiating an interrogation of the role of culture in shaping us. This body of work addresses the suppression and restrictions faced by women. Njeri, who received her BS in Fashion Design from Machakos University, Kenya, and MFA at the University of Central Florida, has exhibited her work in various shows and galleries, including a solo exhibition at Snap! Gallery in Orlando.

Orlando Ballet’s Sizzling Casanova Debuts

It’s being billed as a naughty ballet, and Casanova, A Ballet By Kenneth Tindall, May 16-19, promises to explore the infamous womanizer’s life of lust, faith, betrayal and genius. “We are closing our extraordinary 50th anniversary season with a production that is sinfully rich with the forbidden. Just the mention of Casanova’s name and everyone’s eyebrows automatically rise; you can’t help it,” says Artistic Director Jorden Morris. “Choreographer Kenneth Tindall has created a visually stunning presentation. It’s way more fun than should be allowed, which is why we are doing it.”

Tindall, a former principal dancer with London’s Northern Ballet, is now Choreographer in Residence with the company for which he created Casanova. Fully submerged in the decadence of 18th century Venice, Italy, Casanova was a complicated young man who couldn’t settle down into one career, much less with one romantic partner. In addition to his endless activities as a lothario, Casanova was a priest, musician, gambler, scofflaw and an intellect — all the right character traits around which to design a lusty ballet.

Guest conductor Julian Pellicano, Music Director with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, returns to Orlando to lead live musical performances by Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra as they perform music by Kerry Muzzey, whose lush, captivating score fuels the palpable sexual tension generated by the dancers. Created in the U.K., this sell-out and award-winning production will make its North American debut in Orlando as part of a collaboration between Orlando Ballet, Colorado Ballet and Milwaukee Ballet.

“This is the future — making big, expensive, lavish ballets more accessible to the public as a complement to the standard classics already available. Casanova is so well worth the investment,” Jorden adds. “We have an extraordinary story being told through dance by a tremendously imaginative choreographer, live music, and our own remarkable Orlando Ballet dancers who could not be more excited to perform.” orlandoballet.org..)

MAY IS SKIN CANCER AWARENESS MONTH:

Time to Check Your Birthday Suit

DR. PALCESKI IS A BOARDCERTIFIED DERMATOLOGIST AND MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF REFLECTIONS DERMATOLOGY & CENTER FOR SKINCARE WITH OFFICES IN WINTER PARK AND BALDWIN PARK. FOR MORE THAN TWO DECADES, HE AND HIS TEAM HAVE BEEN HELPING CENTRAL FLORIDIANS, OF ALL AGES AND ETHNICITIES LOVE THE SKIN THEY’RE IN.

With May being Skin Cancer Awareness Month, he wants to remind all of us that skin cancer is beatable and treatable if detected early. While skin cancer remains the most common form of cancer, there have been numerous advances that have significantly improved patient outcomes. The most important of these advances, in Dr. Palceski’s opinion, is an increased awareness of skin cancer risks and prevention strategies including the daily use of sunscreen and the importance of having a skin exam with a dermatologist every year.

At Reflections Dermatology, Dr. Palceski encourages all his patients to “check their birthday suits on their birthday” and start a new habit that just might save their lives. Technological innovations have also played a key role in skin cancer prevention, early detection, and better treatment outcomes, according to Dr. Palceski.

With the continuous evolution of AI and online applications, assessment tools such as dermoscopy and genomic testing, and treatment options that now include targeted therapies and immunotherapy, medical providers are able to more closely monitor changes in the skin over time, allowing for early and more accurate detection of skin cancers at a stage when treatment is most effective.

In addition, Dr. Palceski believes that advances in tele-dermatology will continue to play a vital role in skin cancer prevention by enabling patients living in more rural communities or those unable to come to the office for other reasons to receive skin cancer screenings and other dermatologic care virtually, thereby expanding the reach of skin cancer awareness efforts. These advancements, among others, have transformed the landscape of skin cancer management offering hope and improved outcomes for individuals affected by this disease.

This Skin Cancer Awareness Month, take the time to protect your skin, spread the word about prevention, and prioritize your health. Your future self will thank you for taking care of your skin today.

AN A DVENT H EALTH FOR WOMEN SERIES

JENNIFER KNOPF: A Mother on a Mission

Jennifer Knopf, Esq. is the Founding Director of REED Charitable Foundation, wife to husband Andrew, and mom of two — a daughter, Mackenzie, and a son, Reed. In 2019 she established the REED Charitable Foundation after struggling to find resources for her son, who was diagnosed with dyslexia in January of 2018 at 7 years old. Her extensive research and advocacy make her a mother on a mission to help end the literacy crisis.

W“hen you have enough life experience, you look back and you see how these different pieces happened to get you where you are. I’m still active in the Bar [Association] and being a lawyer comes into practice daily running a nonprofit organization. I’m glad I have that skillset and don’t have to hire that out or not be thinking in that way,” Jen says.

Jen obtained a Bachelor of Psychology degree from the University of Florida and Doctor of Law (J.D.) from Stetson University. “My background is in litigation — general, labor and employment defense, construction, architecture and engineering. There’s a huge advocacy component to that — researching something you may have never even heard about and then you’ve got to become an expert on it. You have to be able to advocate for it in court, explain it to clients, and talk to experts. It’s literally how RCF started and what I largely do on a daily basis,” she adds. Her journey to starting REED Charitable Foundation began with her son, Reed, who was struggling in school. “He was very articulate and smart, but he could not remember his letters and letter sounds,

and could not memorize his sight words,” she explains.

Everyone kept assuring her that he would catch up, but it was not lost on Jen that he was not where he needed to be. “By first grade, he was calling home every single day begging to come home from school or had ailments all the time,” she says. While he was social, she later found out students were making fun of him saying, “Reed can’t read.”

As she thought about what other parents went through, especially those without access to similar resources, she realized she had to do something, and so, The REED Charitable Foundation was born.

Eventually after getting diagnosed with dyslexia, Jen was confident that Reed’s established school would be able to help, but they could not seven years ago; no local school could — public or private. Reed’s neuropsychologist recommended the Orton-Gillingham Approach, which is an approach to literacy instruction that is science-based.

“I had no idea what that was, but because of my legal background, I’m somebody

who will get on the internet and research all night. But then when I started researching who could provide these services, there was only one person in our geographic area certified at any level in the Orton-Gillingham Academy that could work with a student with dyslexia, even though 1 in 5 children have dyslexia. Of course, she had a waitlist a mile long, it was $100+ an hour, and you had to go after school,” she shares.

Instead of playing T-ball with his friends after school, Jen would take Reed for after-school instruction, drop her daughter at practices she could rarely stay to watch — only to have hours of homework battles each night — and then often finishing her workday in the wee hours of the morning. “Within a couple of months, I’m like this is not sustainable — I’ve got bags under my eyes, we’re eating takeout every night for dinner, and my daughter’s upset because I’m only focused on Reed. I was completely overwhelmed and doing everything that I could,” she admits. As she thought about what other parents went through, especially those without access to similar resources, she realized she had to do something, and so, The REED Charitable Foundation was born.

From a programming perspective, RCF provides Orton-Gillingham training at an affordable cost and complimentary implementation support for educators after training and affordable OG classroom materials. Most educators can’t go through training due to high costs and geographic barriers and RCF is dedicated to changing that. RCF currently works with Orange County Public Schools and has five model schools who have fully adopted the OG approach in K – 2nd grade classrooms. RCF’s OG team goes into classrooms and offers monthly virtual meetings to discuss issues and answer questions. “We’ve trained people in 42 different states and 9 countries,” Jen says. “Our mission is to make sure that every teacher is trained so that every child can read.”

My husband and I indulged in the experience and took full advantage of the special amenities. At the front desk, we were immediately escorted up to the Club Lounge for a private check-in, followed by an explanation of special events and food presentation schedule.

As we settled into our suite, we took a few minutes to enjoy the views from the balcony. The resort sits on 500 acres of natural landscaping, which expands out from the pool area to the golf course and the horizon beyond. With the sun sinking, it was time for a cocktail up in the Club Lounge where we discovered an extensive array of bites and small plates — enough to make us consider skipping dinner. But after sipping and chatting with some other guests who were also locals, we made our way down to the Highball & Harvest bar for a casual meal.

I awoke early Saturday morning and headed back up to the Club Lounge for some much-needed caffeine. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive as I perused the newspapers and finished my coffee. While the morning buffet of hot and cold items was tempting, I decided to wait a bit.

After breakfast and a leisurely walk to

glam getaway

A luxe retreat for more than 20 years, The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes, still fills the bill for those seeking an easily accessible escape. Over the past couple of years, renovations have transformed the property, from guestrooms, suites and pool cabanas to the large Lobby Lounge, First Drip for coffee and light bites, and Michelin-star Knife & Spoon steakhouse. But the one area you might not have experienced yet is the Club Level.

the golf club, I had a meeting with Raul, a personal stylist with Saks Fifth Avenue, who was giving me a tour of The Fifth Avenue Club suite. The new Club Level service provides a private shopping experience with clothing, accessories and shoes on display. Raul explained that the fashion club offers other services and hosts special events (read more on page 10).

The weather was less than perfect, but we had arranged for a poolside cabana in case any sudden showers popped up. Our attendant was exceptional and brought out a complimentary fruit tray along with guacamole and chips. By mid-afternoon, we decided to order a burger from Bleu, the poolside restaurant, which totally hit the spot.

Another perk of Club Level is the Saturday wine tasting with Knife & Spoon Sommelier Jessica Dukes. We enjoyed three distinct Pinot Noirs from California, Oregon and France. I was thrilled when my picks were the same as hers. When my husband joined me, we chose wine from the convenient dispenser — you can choose from eight wines and three different pour amounts. Of course, the appetizing hors d’oeuvres lured us again.

For some Saturday evening peoplewatching, we perched in the Lobby Lounge for a bit before going to Knife & Spoon, award-winning chef John Tesar’s beautifully appointed modern take on a traditional steakhouse. A last, late-night visit to the Club Lounge for a sweet treat was followed by sweet dreams.

Sunday morning was bittersweet as we sipped our final coffees, but we had one more treat in store — pedicures at The Spa. It was as indulgent as ever and the perfect ending to a perfect weekend.

Brightline: Day Trippin’

LOOKING FOR A LITTLE ADVENTURE THAT’S RELAXING AND REFLECTS REAL FLORIDA? WE RECENTLY ENJOYED A LITTLE TREK WITH FRIENDS THAT STARTED WITH A BRIGHT IDEA — BRIGHTLINE’S TRAIN SERVICE.

THE ITINERARY INCLUDED JUST ONE STOP TO WEST PALM BEACH, BUT THAT WAS ENOUGH TO EXPERIENCE THE ADVANTAGES OF RAIL TRAVEL AND THE CONVENIENT SCHEDULE WITH 16 WEEKDAY DEPARTURES AND RETURNS.

Our friends, who had used Brightline previously, arranged for the tickets — times and prices vary — and advised us to park on level 5 at the Terminal C garage at Orlando International Airport. Our departure time was 9:50am and we pulled into the garage at 8:55 (we like to be a little early) and found the only space left on the 5th floor (there is a 6th level). Exiting the car, we immediately saw signs and floor markings leading us straight to the train terminal.

After a quick pass through security (not nearly as stringent as air terminal security — you can take your water bottle through), you are greeted by a bright, light space with a gift shop and just beyond a full bar, Mary Mary, that offers a variety of drinks and food items — you can take both on board with you.

Our friends arrived shortly after we ordered, and we had a quick toast to the day ahead. We headed out when we heard the boarding call and found our seats — two across from two — in a nearly empty car. Apparently, at least for now, the least populated trains are outside rush hours and between MCO and West Palm.

We settled in and noted the passing landmarks as we headed east along the Beachline over to Brevard County and then straight south. As typical drivers, it was refreshing to be able to chat and not worry about weaving through traffic. Attendants worked their way through the cars offering beverages and snacks for purchase. And the conversation flowed as the scenery swooped by.

In less than two hours, we arrived at

the station located in the heart of downtown West Palm Beach. We had 12:30 reservations (highly recommended) at the RH Rooftop Restaurant and walked a few blocks, past several design retailers, to the destination. The entrance to RH hints at what’s inside the 80,000-square-foot gallery. The fourth-floor restaurant is a luxe greenhouse filled with lively conversations and attentive servers. Open seven days a week from 10am – 9pm, it offers brunch, lunch and dinner with an extensive wine menu and impressive plates.

After an artisanal board, we dove into the shaved ribeye on charred garlic bread with Emmentaler Swiss and au jus along with truffle fries. On a perfect weather day, the sun streamed down and dappled the table as wine was refilled, and buzzy chatter continued. Before we knew it, it was 2:30 and time to leave for the station. Opting for an Uber, we looked forward to a

leisurely ride back. To make it even more chill, we made a quick stop at Mary Mary for afternoon libations.

We made ourselves comfortable in the same two-across-two configuration and greeted our attendants who had been with us on the morning ride. I always opt for driving my own car for shorter trips, but as I glanced around, I could see that being able

to do business or read is a very viable option. Trains traditionally run like clockwork and Brightline is no exception. For those who want a more luxurious experience, premium tickets allow access to special lounges with complimentary snacks and sips. Current service also includes Boca Raton, Ft. Lauderdale, Aventura and Miami. gobrightline.com

BITS & BITES

Elevated Experience

CAPA STEAKHOUSE, the one Michelin-starred rooftop steakhouse at Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort, recently unveiled enhancements to the kitchen and overall dining experience, and received Spanish certification from the Embassy of Spain. Known for its delectable prime meats cooked over a wood-burning grill, fresh seafood, and tasty Spanish tapas, Capa’s updated look — designed by Parker-Torres Design of Boston — includes delicate, reflective, custom-painted Spanish fans swaying overhead, and all-new seating areas, including cozy banquettes in the main restaurant and red stools in the bar. Bold artwork adds additional pops of color. The design was inspired by the beautiful movement and attire of Spanish performers such as the matador and flamenco dancer. The outdoor terraces were updated with new furnishings, planters, and other decor elements.

Most notably for the culinary team, the kitchen underwent an expansion, giving the chefs more room to cook, curate and assemble the various dishes served nightly. With the wood-burning grill in the center of the bustling kitchen, a beautiful surrounding white marble built-in with open shelving houses

ROSEN CELEBRATES 50: A COMMITMENT TO QUALITY, COMPASSION &

COMMUNITY

Rosen Hotels & Resorts® is patterned on the vision and principles of Founder, President, and COO Harris Rosen — a total commitment to unwavering honesty and integrity, the security and wellbeing of associates, highquality hospitality products, exceptional guest service, unmatched value, the continuing improvement of the industry, and ongoing enhancement of the community.

From humble beginnings growing up in New York’s Lower East Side, Harris Rosen graduated from Cornell University with a degree in hospitality management. After serving in the Army, he began his career in hospitality at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City, then holding several positions with Hilton Hotels Corporation, and eventually landing in Orlando to work for Disney.

It was around that time when Mr. Rosen realized if he was going to be happy and fulfilled, he had to consider being in business for himself. He took his savings, some $20,000 dollars, and agreed to purchase a small, 256-room Quality Inn with a $2 million mortgage on the property which he assumed during the purchase.

He did everything from cooking and cleaning to gardening and working the front desk. He lived on property and even converted two rooms into an office and a tiny apartment with a small stove up against a wall.

beacon in its support of the community that surrounds them. Rosen Hotels has not only supported The Faine House in providing the best opportunities for hosting our largest fundraising gala of the year but has also incorporated holiday initiatives to continue to support the young adults we serve throughout the year. Rosen does not just provide a one-time support for local nonprofits but believes in continuing to find ways to support those they work with. We look forward to our continued partnership to better the community around us.”

Rosen Shingle Creek

Today, Mr. Rosen remains in that same office in what is now the Rosen Inn International. His success allowed him to purchase two other hotels, which are now the Rosen Inn closest to Universal and Rosen Inn Lake Buena Vista, and build the Rosen Inn Pointe Orlando, Rosen Plaza, Rosen Centre, and the crown jewel of the collection, Rosen Shingle Creek. His success in the hospitality field is legendary, only matched by his success as a philanthropist and humanitarian.

In addition to Harris Rosen’s personal philanthropic endeavors, Rosen Hotels & Resorts is a true community partner, hosting numerous non-profit events each year, providing quality events and outstanding service, all while helping these organizations raise the most funds. We asked several community partners to share their experiences.

It’s partnerships like these that truly make a difference in the lives of students and educators alike. Special 50th Anniversary Desserts

A golden jubilee deserves a special treat, and three of the Rosen Hotels & Resorts — Rosen Shingle Creek, Rosen Plaza and Rosen Centre — will feature an anniversary dessert created by the resort’s pastry chefs.

Fruity Tangelo Mousse at Rosen Shingle Creek

Inspired by fresh, tropical flavors native to Florida and Harris Rosen’s ongoing commitment to the Tangelo Park community, this crisp, refreshing dessert features a fruity tangelo mousse resting on top of a crunchy coconut dacquoise, with a cool strawberry center and finished in a slightly tart citrus glaze, created by Executive Pastry Chef Candice Wells.

Espresso Panna Cotta Martini at Rosen Centre

The pastry chefs harkened back to Harris Rosen’s New York City roots when he created this decadent dessert featuring a smooth, creamy Italian custard flavored with espresso coffee, slightly scented with a touch of premium vodka, served in a golden anniversary sugar-rimmed martini glass.

Passion Fruit Crème Brûlée Cheesecake at Rosen Plaza

Two classic desserts work together: passion fruit crème brûlée gently layered on top of a classic New York cheesecake. Executive Chef Ricardo Lopez thoughtfully blended Harris Rosen’s 50 years of passion and fire for Orlando and providing the ultimate in guest service with his New York City roots.
