BE BOLD. EMBRACE CHANGE. MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Back in 2010, we wanted to create something special for women as an IRL extension of Orange Appeal, so the Orlando Women’s Conference was born. On September 12 we will gather at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts to be inspired, encouraged, empowered, enlightened, and come together as a community.

Both keynote speakers — Suneera Madhani and Allison Walsh — epitomize the call to action we chose as this year’s theme: BE BOLD. EMBRACE CHANGE. MAKE IT HAPPEN. Suneera built a unicorn — a privately owned startup company valued at over $1 billion — and exited to reassess what she wanted. That respite led to the creation of two new businesses.

Allison Walsh has been an integral part of innovative business startups while envisioning and bringing to life her own brand — She Believed She Could. She has brought her insights and expertise to several Orlando Women’s Conferences, and now she will be on the main stage in Steinmetz Hall to deliver a powerful message during the luncheon.

Although learning is an integral component of the day, it’s really the connections and conversations that attendees comment on most. It’s a space and a place for women to feel strong, vibrant and engaged. We hope to see you there! Learn more at orlandowomensconference.com.

Bunco Roll for a Cause: A Fresh Take on Fundraising

In today’s competitive world of fundraising, innovation is key to capturing the attention of new donors. That’s where Bunco Roll for a Cause comes in — a dynamic event designed to engage and inspire a new generation of supporters. We caught up with the creators, Lindsay Winter Bellinkoff and Jennifer Bentson, to discuss how they’re revolutionizing nonprofit fundraising.

Orange Appeal: What exactly is Bunco Roll for a Cause?

Lindsay: Bunco Roll for a Cause is an exclusive fundraising event where community-minded individuals connect to sip, play, and give back. Attendees roll the dice for a chance to win coveted designer prizes while mingling with friends and fellow supporters. At its core, this event is all about creating a fun, social atmosphere while supporting important causes.

OA: What inspired you to create this event?

Jennifer: We wanted to find a way to bring people together in a meaningful way, espe-

cially those who might not have been engaged with traditional fundraising events. Bunco is a naturally social game, but it’s usually played with only 12 people. We thought, why not tweak the rules, scale it up, and create an experience that more people can enjoy? It was also important to us to make the event appeal to a younger demographic of donors, which is why we’ve strategically crafted it to spice up the typical nonprofit fundraising efforts.

OA: How has the event grown since its inception?

LWB: We’ve been thrilled by the response. Our first Roll in 2022 sold out in just a few days, and now we’re partnering with The Mall at Millenia to host our largest event yet in the Grand Court on Sunday, October 13. This year’s event will benefit Runway to Hope’s grocery assistance division, and we’re proud to have Kroger Delivery as our national grocery partner and mission sponsor.

OA: Who are the people behind Bunco Roll for a Cause?

JB: We’ve been involved in nonprofit consulting within the Central Florida community for years, and we pride ourselves on our strategic approach to fundraising. We handle everything from project management to graphic design and branding, and we’re committed to fostering a sense of community among our supporters.

and Lindsay Winter Bellinkoff

OA: What’s next for Bunco Roll for a Cause?

LWB: We’re eager to expand this event to other markets in Florida and beyond. We believe Bunco Roll for a Cause has the potential to become a signature fundraiser for charities, offering a simple, fun approach to giving back that’s unlike anything else out there.

OA: How can people get involved?

JB: We’d love to connect with anyone interested in learning more or partnering with us. Feel free to reach out at Hello@buncorollforacause.com. You can also follow us on Instagram at @Bunco_RollingForACause or visit our website at buncorollforacause. com. Bunco Roll for a Cause is redefining how we think about fundraising—one roll at a time. We invite you to join us in this exciting movement!

Dr. Stephenie Poris

Any woman who is facing a breast cancer diagnosis has plenty to think about — from treatment to outcomes to all the what ifs and what’s next. So, reconstruction options might not be the first thing on her mind, but according to boardcertified cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Stephenie Poris, there are some important things to consider.

Breast Reconstruction: It’s Come a Long Way

“Reconstruction has changed a lot — even within the last five years. It’s a really different ballgame now and you can have some really nice outcomes. We’re able to make breasts look natural. Like everything in medicine, it all gets better with more time and more research. When new technology comes out and we utilize it, we get better results,” Dr. Poris says.

She says women should start talking to family members — even male members — before they even get a mammogram since those conversations may reveal some genetic or environmental factors. “We are finding more and more gene abnormalities every day, so even today’s testing may not uncover all the risks. But once you get that diagnosis from biopsy results, usually done by a breast radiologist, you will be referred to a breast sur-

geon, a general surgeon by training, who would perform a lumpectomy or mastectomy,” she adds.

The breast surgeon will then go over options based on patient concerns, genetic history and risks. After that you would see a plastic surgeon. Oncoplastic breast surgery combines the techniques of traditional breast cancer surgery with the cosmetic advantages of plastic surgery.

“Many patients are coming to a plastic surgeon early because there are so many options. Lumpectomies can leave a large hole or indentation — a defect in the breast — and then the patient might have to get radiation. Now what we can do is reshape the breast, like in cosmetic surgery, and remove the breast tissue at the same time. We could even do a breast reduction if the patient wanted it,” she explains.

beauty body&spirit

If a patient is not a candidate for Oncoplastic surgery, a mastectomy followed by reconstruction is the most common plan. “In this scenario we used to put in tissue expanders. But they are uncomfortable and not always successful. Plus, you have to go to the doctor’s office every week to have them filled. Now, we have gone away from that and are putting implants in on the same day as the mastectomy. This is what I do. It’s called direct-to-implant breast reconstruction. Most patients are candidates for this. We no longer go under patients’ muscles — everything is done on top of the muscle so there’s no animation deformity. There is much less discomfort and patients can go home the same day,” she shares.

If a patient doesn’t want an implant, there is tissue-based reconstruction or free-flap surgery. “We would utilize different tissue on the body that we remove and replace as breast tissue. It is a much more involved procedure, done in the hospital.

But it can provide a very nice outcome. An added bonus is you get a tummy tuck out of it, but we now spare the muscle unlike the older method tram flap surgery. We just use the skin and fat, and the arteries and veins supplying them. It can be a good option for a lot of patients,” she continues. Dr. Poris advises this is a longer operation with a longer recovery period. But satisfaction rates are very high.

“Women used to be really scared of the outcomes. More and more women are finding that the reconstructive process doesn’t have to be bad. We try to make sure every patient feels really cared for. We walk hand in hand with them,” Dr. Poris concludes.

Not all plastic surgeons do reconstruction, but Dr. Poris chose to because she had a deep amount of training in the direct-toimplant procedure and felt very comfortable adding it to her practice. She also wanted to offer something special and, at that time, new to the female community

here. More information is available at porisplasticsurgery.com/breast-reconstruction.

Jayne Williams’ Journey

As a Certified Nutritional Consultant in integrative health, wellness expert, podcaster, writer and business owner, Jayne Williams was healthy and educated. But there was a shadow hanging over her due to some genetic factors.

“I have a heavy family history of breast cancer on my mom’s side. My mom, her sister and my grandmother have all been diagnosed with breast cancer. I had very small, dense breasts that I discovered when I went for my first mammogram. Because of that I was watched carefully and even had to go in a few times to have things that looked odd checked — ultrasounds every six months. It would always be okay though,” she says.

But in May 2023, there was another area that looked questionable, so it was biopsied

and came back as precancerous material. “They wanted me to have a lumpectomy to have it removed. After sending it to the lab they upgraded it to DCIS, ductal carcinoma in situ, at Stage 0. At that point I had decisions to make. I was thankful I had them to make as so many women do not. I could do nothing, consider going on hormone therapy and radiation, or, because of my family history, a bi-lateral mastectomy,” she adds. Jayne went straight to work educating herself and then went to see an oncologist, a breast surgeon and a breast radiologist. “I was very fortunate to be an incredibly healthy 47-year-old. But having watched three women in my family go through this, I felt it was a gift in so many ways that I found it so early. I felt called to do the surgery, a bi-lateral mastectomy with direct reconstruction with Dr. Poris. I could go in with boobs and come out with boobs,” she explains.

Even though a mastectomy is major surgery, Jayne knew right away that Dr.

Poris was the right choice for her. “She is so intelligent, so empowering. I really felt she took so much time and care with me. She sat me down and went through clinically what was going to happen. I had an all-female team — female breast radiologist, a female breast surgeon and a female reconstruction surgeon — and knew I was making the best decision. And here I am, almost exactly one year later, I am beautifully healed, and I feel great. I have my life back,” Jayne says.

Jayne has shared her story publicly on social media in an effort to inform other women. “I got so much feedback I felt propelled to make something out of it. That’s when I created the pre- and post-surgical guide to help prep your body for surgery and then heal through nutrition and proper supplementation and movement,” she adds. The guide is available on her website, jaynewilliams.com

AN A DVENT H EALTH FOR WOMEN

SERIES

SIMONA LAZINSK: Tragedy to Triumph

Simona Lazinsk has overcome a lot of adversities in her life. She immigrated to America as a child, she lost her mother at a young age, then lost her father and older sister four years later, and recently battled breast cancer. But she’s used those experiences to shift her mindset, try new things, including pageants, and write a book called The Bridge Method about overcoming life’s challenges. Her mission is to inspire other women to have hope and know they are not alone in their struggles.

Simona lost her mother to pancreatic cancer 15 years ago. They lived in Miami and were very close. “After taking care of her for two and a half years — battling the disease — when she passed, I was so devastated that I quit my job, packed my bags and moved to Central Florida,” Simona says.

She started a new life here and met her now husband, Jack. “We have a great life together. He proposed to me on center court at an Orlando Magic game on Valentine’s Day. I felt so happy but a month later I was diagnosed with breast cancer,” she shares.

While Simona was on a work trip in Chicago, she discovered a lump on her right breast while showering in her hotel. “I didn’t have pain or bleeding, but I was really worried about it. So as soon as I got back home, I made an appointment with my primary care doctor,” she says. Simona had just turned 40 so routine mammograms had not been recommended yet.

Her doctor referred her for a mammogram, but the results did not look good. She then went for an ultrasound, biopsy and MRI. The MRI confirmed Simona had breast cancer. “When I received the news from my primary care doctor, I

recall hanging up the phone and crying because I remembered what my mom went through. I think all of us who hear the C-word think, what if I die? I was Stage I, but I was grade III and what that meant was that it was a highly aggressive form of cancer. I remember thinking of my life and what I had done. At that point, my whole life was about work and sorrows about things I had gone through, but I wasn’t fulfilling what I wanted to do,” Simona explains.

She was referred to a male oncologist who did not have the best bedside manner and gave her a treatment plan without

explaining the how and the why. “All I knew about breast cancer was rallies being done, everyone wears pink, but I didn’t know anything else about it. I was lost,” she says. She sought a second opinion and visited other hospitals with her last appointment being at AdventHealth Altamonte with Dr. Devina McCray, a breast surgical oncologist. “She was the first doctor that looked me in the eye and said, ‘Simona, you’re going to be okay; you’re going to make it; you’re going to survive this,’” she says.

Because Simona had HER2+, an aggressive form of the disease, she underwent chemotherapy before receiving a double mastectomy and reconstruction. She is now five years cancer-free. “I am a different person than I was before I had cancer. It made me realize that tomorrow is not promised. It made me realize that every day really does matter,” she says.

“After I went through treatment, it inspired me to write a book called The Bridge Method (available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble online). The book is a step-by-step approach of what I have done in my life to overcome the challenges that I face — being aware of your feelings, how to reach out for help, how to reach inward

and really understand how to find that thing and go accomplish your dreams. It’s about crossing those bridges in life,” she continues.

Watching pageants growing up, Simona was also motivated to compete in them following her cancer treatment. She has since participated in two pageants — winning the titles of Mrs. Florida International 2023 and Miss Woman Entrepreneur Florida. She and her husband own businesses together including a classic car dealership called Past & Present Motor Cars and a promotional products company, Economical Quality Products.

“That’s what cancer has done to me — it’s really pushed me out of my comfort zone. My goal and what I want women to know going through breast cancer is you are not alone — there are resources and so many ways you can get help. There is hope and there is life after cancer,” she sums up.

Mammograms are Not Painful — A big reason women tend to delay their mammogram is because they have a preconceived notion about it being very painful. There might be very minimal amount of discomfort for a very short time, but a mammogram should not be painful.

What Doctors Are Looking For — After your mammogram, a radiologist will evaluate your images. If it’s your first mammogram, your radiologist will not have any prior images as comparisons, so it is possible that you could get a call back for more images to be taken. Don’t panic. Most findings end up being benign.

Know Your Mammogram Schedule — It is recommended that women get screening mammograms every year, starting at age 40. Any woman over the age of 30 should have a diagnostic mammogram if any unusual breast symptoms are detected.

Mammograms are proven to save lives. It’s the best tool we have to monitor a woman’s breasts over time and detect any changes early.

Upon stepping into Artistik Beauty, located in Winter Park, you are immediately surrounded by a warm atmosphere tinged with pink — every hue — and lip motifs. Each treatment room contains the latest in cosmetic technology, including a top-of-theline ultrasound machine for vessel mapping, highlighting Ashley’s interest in staying up to date on products and procedures.

“What sets us apart is the emphasis on safety. I do a lot of training, and make sure I am learning what’s new and choosing the best products. Sometimes they [the products and devices] are the most expensive, but I choose them because the results and research are the best. People can feel comfortable here because we don’t try to just sell them something. I will often tell them they don’t need anything else,” Ashley says. She starts with a consultation that also includes skin care, and a discus-

Artistik Beauty’s Approach to Client Care

Cosmetic nurse practitioner Ashley Pontenberg, MS, APRN-C, founded her business, Artistik Beauty, in 2016 based on her interest in patient safety and continuing education — and she has the credentials to back it up. With 20 years of medical and surgical experience, the nationally board certified advanced registered nurse practitioner holds numerous certifications and is also a national trainer for MINT PDO (collagen thread lift) and Allergan Medical Institute.

sion of expectations, goals and concerns. She is well versed in the side effects of the products she works with and is prepared to address any potential complications.

On a recent tour of the spacious facility, we started in a treatment room that has a large window while Ashley relayed her story of beginning in just one suite in the building that was a wellness center. “If you didn’t notice, I like the color pink,” she laughs. Pointing to products, she continued, “We use medical grade skincare from Skinmedica — from the same company as Juvederm and Botox. They do extensive research, and my clients really see the results, often within two weeks.”

In the corner of the room, she brings my attention to the latest machine. ATTIVA is an innovative technology utilizing intelligent radiofrequency (iRF) to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, significantly enhancing skin structure on both the face and body. Energy is precisely delivered through a micro cannula, mak-

ing ATTIVA one of the safest and most effective treatments available.

Another device Ashley uses during consultations is the Visia Skin Analysis equipped with high-tech imaging that helps visualize and document both baseline conditions as well as progress over time. “It is helpful for showing any underlying damage, revealing wrinkles and aging progress, and also how treatments are improving the skin,” Ashley explains. She is currently awaiting the arrival of a new laser hair removal machine, which can reduce total treatments from 10-12 to three.

In addition to Ashley, treatment staff consists of an esthetician, medical assistant and registered nurse, and services offered include injectables, biostimulators, facials, peels, microneedling, IPL, laser hair removal, Morpheus 8, dermaplaning, skincare, medical weight loss, PDO threads, and more. Central Florida, a fantastic organization focused on community sustainability.”

Each year, Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining selects nonprofit organizations that make an impact on the Orlando community as charity beneficiaries, with $1 for each $40 meal and $2 for each $60 meal going toward the organization. This year’s beneficiary, The Mustard Seed of Central Florida, is focused on helping residents and families recover from hardships while minimizing environmental impact.

In addition to providing household items for reuse, The Mustard Seed recycles unusable items to create a more sustainable community. Since 2011, its innovative recycling program has deconstructed more than 160,000 mattresses, repurposing components and diverting nearly 4 million cubic feet of waste from landfills, significantly reducing environmental impact.

“We are excited to be the beneficiary of Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining program,” says Kathy Baldwin, executive director, The Mustard Seed of Central Florida. “These funds will help us serve more clients in need of basic furniture for stability.”

Visit Orlando will also award a $3,000 donation to one local nonprofit that offers impactful approaches to creating thriving and sustainable communities in each of Orange County’s six commission districts.

Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining has raised more than $2.5 million for local organizations since 2009. Last year, the program donated $269,272 to charities supporting survivors of abuse in Central Florida, including organizations addressing human trafficking. With the funds raised, The Lifeboat Project hired a case manager, purchased vehicles for transportation services, and began constructing a safe house.

Wellness Oasis In Celebration

As more and more consumers search for relaxation resorts with health benefits in mind, there has been a growing interest in creating environments that enhance well-being while hosting those looking for a little getaway. The town of Celebration has embraced healthy living since its inception with activities, parks, trails, and the state-of-the-art AdventHealth Wellness Center offering exercise equipment, group fitness classes and spa treatments, among other services. To complement this mission, the 289-room Meliá Orlando Celebration is expanding their Stay Well by Delos (a global wellness leader) Suites and adding a Wellness Concierge service.

This fall, 25 of the wellness suites will be available to book and each will feature a welcome guided meditation from world-renowned Dr. Deepak Chopra, mood-enhancing aromatherapy, natural light stimulation for a gentle dawn and dusk, air purification systems, and a soundscape machine. Bathrooms in each suite also feature a Vitamin C shower infuser that reduces chlorine to leave hair and skin feeling softer and smoother.

Kate and I took the opportunity to recharge on a recent stay and found that in addition to the wellness amenities and spacious suite, there is access to Club 225

(complimentary drinks and specially priced appetizer offerings from 4-5pm) at the onsite seaside-themed restaurant The Wilson. The fun, umbrella-covered The Wilson Backyard kept us dry from the rain and offers additional seating and another outdoor bar for those enjoying the pool. While we were checking everything out, Hotel Manager Alma De Villa found us and offered any assistance during our visit. The entire staff was very welcoming and accommodating.

At happy hour, I enjoyed some plump, juicy oysters at a special price of $1 each, while Kate ordered the crispy tuna poke taco. Later at dinner, The Wilson Executive

Chef Oscar Fernandes personally delivered our plates — from the crispy calamari and well-seasoned hanger steak with cowboy butter to the baked apple crumble skillet topped with vanilla gelato. Clearly, we would need some fitness activities after all that!

Wellness Suites at the Meliá will be available in one-bedroom, two-bedroom and family configurations, making the hotel an ideal choice for families, couples and groups to escape. A suite stay also includes access to the AdventHealth Wellness Center (fitness center, bike rentals and spa), the hotel’s 360-degree infinity pool, and access to weekend onsite Wellness Programming, including yoga, qigong and aqua fitness. The Wellness Concierge can arrange special requests and manage bookings for a variety of services as well as act as a personal attendant. For more information, visit melia.com.

SUNEERA 2.0

In order for you to get there you have to take the first step. And then a second and a third. Sometimes you have to take a leap. You’ve got to be willing to take action to design that life and not be a spectator of it. Take action and take risks. It’s okay if you fail. You’re going to get back up and try again. You have to be willing to take a bet on yourself.

After exiting her unicorn $1 billion+ business, Suneera Madhani took two years to reassess, renew and reignite her passion. Now, she’s launched her second chapter Worth AI — to build the business credit score. Worth AI is a tech platform that utilizes data to provide credit scores for businesses and help financial institutions onboard and underwrite customers equitably — something previously nonexistent. Suneera also is the host of CEO School podcast which is a top 100 entrepreneur podcast boosting over 2 million downloads. CEO School encompasses a wide array of resources designed to help female founders reach the $1 million mark and beyond. Suneera will be the opening keynote speaker at the 2024 Orlando Women’s Conference, and we were able to chat with her about where she’s been and where she’s going.

FAMILY VALUES — THE SEEDS OF SUCCESS

As the daughter of immigrant parents, she was instilled with a sense of resiliency and gratitude, but also responsibility. Since her parents were entrepreneurs, she was also gifted with that DNA. Both propelled her to not only succeed, but to bet on herself.

“I was able to see all the great things entrepreneurship teaches you — especially hard work and resiliency. I also saw first hand the hardships as part of my family’s story. My parents worked hard for my brother and I to get an education — that was the American dream for them. As they were building their businesses, we moved around a lot. I ended up going to 10 different schools between kindergarten and college. It

Know that you deserve to have it all. You can have what — ever all looks like to you. You can design your life in that way. As women, we take a lot of inspiration and advice, we’re reflective, and we have so many great qualities. But I think what we lack sometimes is being bold enough to take action toward it and take risks. Getting comfortable with getting uncomfortable is a huge part of growth.

I feel like Suneera 2.0. Right now, I want to be able to leverage all the things that I have learned because I see the needs.

was change and newness, but it also says a lot about my story because as a family we were very, very close and always one team,” she says.

She got a full ride to the University of Florida and was the first person in her family to graduate college. “As the daughter of immigrants, you carry a pressure — failure is not an option. There is so much sacrifice that goes into giving you an opportunity. I never took that lightly. I got a degree in finance and marketing — a double major with a minor in leadership. Not a lot of people can say they actually use their degree. I did well academically and was involved in many organizations. I got to study abroad in Rome. I’ve always been a yes person — just going for it and trying new things,” she adds.

POST-COLLEGE BUSINESS BEGINNINGS

Suneera joined the corporate world after college and held several different positions,

the last at a payments company. “That was my first endeavor in the financial services industry. I saw so much opportunity, and so many things that needed to be fixed. With where tech was going, financial services were lagging — they were very, very behind. I could see it. As a society we were becoming more and more cashless. Users wanted more transparency and ease of use,” she explains.

When Suneera went on a trip to Dallas to visit family, she had an aha moment regarding an opportunity. She thought about the subscription-based services she used for different boxes and products and thought, why wasn’t there subscriptionbased credit card processing? “I did what any good entrepreneur does — you have an idea, and you just can’t stop thinking about it — so I went to share the idea with my team and company executives. I told them we could change the way credit card processing was done, and I knew it would be successful,” she remembers.

ONE DEFEAT LEADS TO AN EPIPHANY

Although she was totally prepared for the presentation, she was not prepared for the outcome. “I gave the best presentation of my life. I had always accomplished what I set out to do, but this time I miserably failed. I couldn’t get the buy-in and I was pretty much laughed out of the room. I was pitching to a room of experienced male execs. All they could see was a 25-year-old girl. They didn’t see my vision and what the future could look like,” she says.

However, over a Sunday family dinner her father asked why she didn’t just start a business with her idea. “That was the first time that thought had even occurred to me. I had no idea how to do it. It wasn’t like starting a retail or e-commerce business or building a product, I had to create the technology — and I didn’t have any software experience. This industry is very legacy-based and has regulations, compli-

ance. It was a big mountain to climb. There was so much unknown, but I depleted my savings, moved back in with my parents, and decided I was going to give this a shot. I gave myself six months to make it work and if it didn’t, I would go back to school and get my MBA and work for another organization. Luckily with hard work, the cards were in my favor. I was able to get my company off the ground,” she explains.

10 YEARS OF BUILDING, BUILDING, BUILDING

Although there were challenges, Suneera took them in stride, betting that they would be worth it. She built on the idea in 2013 and in 2014 the company was registered with Visa and Mastercard. And within six months, she had a sponsor bank. The customer base was growing, and the business was scaling. She built a team, and her brother joined as a founder.

But what really made the difference was the Central Florida community. “We have such an amazing community. I am obsessed with our city. I think we truly have a collaborative community who didn’t see me for my lack of experience or the color of my skin or being a woman. The community saw the potential in my idea, so I was able to hire talent and build a company and raise venture capital. All the things they said couldn’t be done, I was able to do,” she explains.

Eight years after the initial phase of operation, Stax became a billion-dollar business. And Suneera credits her team with the amazing accomplishment. “I am so proud to be the first woman, the first company, out of Orlando to build a billiondollar business. It was possible because we had tenacity and vision; the idea, the execution. But we also had support. Entrepreneurship is so hard — it’s the hardest journey you will ever go on. If you want your day to go according to plan, don’t be an entrepreneur. We raised more than $200

million in venture capital. We acquired companies. We did it textbook perfect. We did it out of Orlando. Today, is the 10-year anniversary of Stax. I am so grateful for the journey. My goal was to take it to a unicorn, and we did that,” she adds.

PROFESSIONAL PROGRESSION: FINDING NEW PASSION

After giving a decade of her life to building a hugely successful business, Suneera found her passion waning. The constant grind and lack of life balance — she was a wife with two young daughters — had taken a toll. And it was time to step back.

“As great as it was there were a lot of struggles. And they were really personal. It was hard juggling all the things. I really had to dedicate and devote all my time to my family and my business. There was no time for self, no time for asking myself what do I want? It was just a machine of building, building, building — $200 million to $500 million and then a billion.

And then we did it and had the big party. But taking it from $1 billion to $2 billion wasn’t exciting anymore. I was in a different phase in my journey. I needed to take the time to reflect and see what I wanted my next chapter to look like. It was time for me to go figure out what I wanted to do. So, I went on this reflective journey over the last two years of trying to find myself and what I wanted, but doing it from a place of financial freedom,” she reveals.

THE FUTURE IS ABOUT IMPACT AND PURPOSE

During her break, Suneera realized what she wanted most was to have a greater impact — more than just financial — and to do things with purpose. She learned a lot about herself during this sabbatical.

“I am not a different person, but I feel like Suneera 2 0. Right now, I want to be able to leverage all the things that I have learned because I see the needs. I see small businesses having a difficult time

accessing capital. And I know what that’s like, especially as a woman of color. I had to fight for a seat at the table. And now that I have a seat, I want to be able to not only impact other women, but really build the next piece of legacy for me and changing the way that business is done,” she explains.

With Worth AI, she and her brother are back building a fintech company that is really about giving power back to small businesses by understanding what their credit worth is. “We have a personal credit score that dictates our financial health.

But we didn’t have a business credit score system. So, we have built the Worth platform, and we are integrating with financial institutions. The top banks in the nation are utilizing our platform now to lend more equitably. We also can provide transparency to the small businesses, so they understand how to leverage their business credit instead of their personal credit,” she adds.

Mentorship and giving back are the reasons behind CEO School (theceoschool.com), which provides resources and

I think we truly have a collaborative community who didn’t see me for my lack of experience or the color of my skin or being a woman. The community saw the potential in my idea, so I was able to hire talent and build a company and raise venture capital.

invaluable advice to women business owners. It started as a podcast in 2020, and a new season just debuted. “We are at more than 2 million downloads, and we want to inspire women to build big businesses — but businesses with purpose and impact — and to have things like freedom of time and money because we’ve been in such a man’s world of how to conduct business. We have the most amazing resources and mentors as part of that,” she says.

SOUND ADVICE FOR OTHER WOMEN

As part of mentoring, Suneera dispenses advice based on her experience and wants to elevate and empower them to take charge. She doesn’t want them to hold back or doubt their worth. “Know that you deserve to have it all. You can have whatever all looks like to you. You can design your life in that way. As women, we take a lot of inspiration and advice, we’re reflective, and we have so many great qualities. But I think what we lack sometimes is being bold enough to take action toward it and take risks. Getting comfortable with getting uncomfortable is a huge part of growth. And we have to first define what it all means to me. What does it look like in my career? What does it look like in my family? What does it look like financially? What does it look like for my passion?” she advises.

“In order for you to get there you have to take the first step. And then a second and a third. Sometimes you have to take a leap. You’ve got to be willing to take action to design that life and not be a spectator of it. Take action and take risks. It’s okay if you fail. You’re going to get back up and try again. You have to be willing to take a bet on yourself,” she continues.

Suneera believes that women are especially qualified to be business leaders. “As women, we are the greatest CEOs because we can lead with empathy. We are able to lead intuitively. We have intellect to make

decisions and adding in that intuition leads to success. Our inability to take the risk and perfectionism holds us back,” she says. She got some good advice from her mentors that she found difficult to follow earlier on in her career. “One of the biggest lessons, and every mentor told me this: ‘you have to have the ability to say no, set boundaries and protect your time.’ When you’re really in it, chasing it and working so hard, it’s really tough advice to take. Failure was not an option, so I had to take every meeting. It’s really hard to raise venture capital. It was the right advice. I think there are seasons — you can go into the season of hustle — but don’t lose sight of where you’re going. Being very protective of your time is important and it might not mean you’re saying no not ever, you’re just saying not right now,” she adds.

THE IMPORTANCE OF PRIORITIES AND PEOPLE

Suneera lives by something she calls the three-bucket principle that challenges you to pick the three things in your life that are the most important to put in your bucket to fulfill you every week. “For me, my three buckets are my family, my work and my

third is impact and purpose. I am realizing that last one now. So, I’m going to say yes to those opportunities that fill my bucket. There are going to be distractions and amazing opportunities that come, but I might be a no, not right now,” she explains.

For her, saying no also relates to people who do not support you in the way you need. “Your community should be cheering you on the loudest. As you are evolving in your career not everyone is going to understand the phase you are in. It’s important for you to have a really strong support system and it’s about the quality of your friendships, the quality of where you spend your time. I believe in having the right inner circle. I have a group that has nothing to do with my work and have been my best friends for the last 20 years. They know me inside out and will challenge me and make sure I am aligned.

It’s also important to have your business tribe. I didn’t realize that. I was so lonely in the building phase, even though I had two co-founders who were awesome. But they couldn’t relate to things I was going through as a young mother. When I found that tribe it was a game changer. I now have an amazing group of women I can go to be my kitchen cabinet, my sounding board,” she shares.

In her new chapter, Suneera gets to be a present wife while making sure she has time for herself. “I’m on a health journey and excited to be able to spend time with me in this next phase of my life. I am an avid traveler, and I love cooking and hosting. Being around friends and family is so important. Every Friday we are in town, we host pizza night. Food and wine is my love language. I am also spending a lot of time taking care of myself which includes a daily walk, journaling and meditating. I’m really focused on being mentally free, prioritizing myself, and just being well inside and out. I have my daily CEO checklist that keeps me grounded,” she concludes.
