why?

The science is very clear in telling us that our collective actions over the next decade are becoming increasingly important.

We believe that developing a more circular economy is an important part of the global response that’s required, to acknowledge that natural resources are finite, to make the most of the resources we do have, and to eliminate waste wherever we can.

To this end, Orangebox is working to ensure that our products, and the business models that support them, keep the materials we use at the highest value, for the longest time possible.

How our customers procure and use furniture in the future will play a crucial role in the transition towards the circular economy, and many are now recognising that making the most of what they’ve already got can play a big part in reducing their impacts.

circular economy manufacture / remanufacture d i s t r i tubnoi esu yb eht remotsuc loc l e c t ion energy from renewable sources circular economy

Our aim is to promote closed-loop cycles of use for all the materials we’ve used, so, to get the most from the resources invested in every piece of furniture we’ve taken steps including dematerialisation, design for disassembly and material identifiers on large parts.

No matter how good a product is, there comes a time when its first useful life comes to an end...

Orangebox products are designed and built in the UK and local manufacturing is important to us.

We reduce upstream transportation impacts through carefully sourcing raw materials and manufacturing component parts locally to us. Around 45% of component parts are manufactured within 10 miles of our factory in South Wales, and over 90% come from within mainland Europe.

We’ve invested in dedicated facilities at our manufacturing HQ in South Wales to ensure re-made by orangebox is as robust and efficient as possible.

In order to minimise any additional transportation impacts, all product collections from site will be made by back-filling our existing delivery vehicles. Collections will be arranged in line with our postcode delivery schedule.

Damaged product

We have a standard pricing model, any damage to frames or foams are difficult to repair & may result in us being unable to complete an economic repair. In this case we will either charge for redelivery or environmentally responsible disposal.

Transport

The additional transportation impacts are minimised by backfilling vehicles from our existing fleet on routine deliveries. As such, our postcode-based delivery schedule will dictate the appropriate collection day. A full sales acknowledgement covering details of the costs, product specification and expected lead-time is issued to the customer. Re-made products will be re-packaged as new for a secure re-delivery. Whenever possible, all packaging will be returned to our manufacturing HQ for recycling.”

Lead times

The lead-time in each case will be dependent upon the specific replacement part (and fabric) requirements of the project but we aim to ensure that all remanufacturing work is completed in approximately 4 to 6 weeks. Depending on project size, storage costs may apply.

Recycling of parts

All the replaced parts will be segregated & sent to our local recycling partner. They will find the optimum use of the parts but ensure that nothing goes to landfill.
