Our very own ‘Man at the Top’ Rufus Hall joined the social media #nomakeupselfie craze by allowing his beautiful helpers Amey Fairbrother, Ella King and Maria Hamilton (left) to apply full make-up to his face all in the aid of Cancer Research UK. The photo made over £100 which was added to the £8 million already raised for Cancer Research UK on Facebook. One of the greatest uses of social media to date!

SIGN-UP! “Earning our customers’ loyalty is incredibly valuable to Orchid both from a profit point of view and also in terms of building strong relationships. By linking our loyalty schemes to our till systems, we’re able to learn so much about our customers: who they are, when they like to visit and what they typically spend. This insight is fed into our marketing planning process to help us create really compelling campaigns and promotions that will drive our customers back into our pubs – this is the ultimate goal sitting behind the ‘The Big Sign-Up’ campaign and we hope that everyone will get behind this over the next few months!”

’ We are expecting over £11,000 to be hitting P&Ls in the next two months through the Wage Incentive! Read what some of our Managers think… “We use the Work Experience programme through our local Job Centre. It’s an eight-week programme where the candidates are referred from their job advisor and placed to train with us. There is no guarantee of a job role but we always ensure a reference is provided.

We were contacted by our local Job Centre to initiate the scheme at our site. We met with them and discussed our wish list to ensure we took the right people. It has been a brilliant tool for us.
“We’ve tried the Youth Contract Wage Incentive (Ingeus). We contacted the Job Centre (process to initiate scheme) and luckily for us one of our staff members knew someone that was looking for work.
Our Reward: £2275.00 back on my P/L (and apparently the first venue in Orchid to claim the full benefit after 6 months employment!)

We get up to eight weeks to see someone’s true colours, train them and then welcome them to our team - it’s a no brainer really. We have had brilliant results and have taken on five of our candidates so far, with plans to increase this further. We found by asking for certain criteria from the Job Centre, then interviewing each candidate before taking them onto the programme, that we ended up with great people. During the process we held reviews with the individuals and really brought them into the team. What other process could you spend eight weeks training a team member for free to be the best person for your team? Fantastic!” Jenny Whittaker Assistant Manager @ the Coulby Farm in Middlesbrough

Social Media Case Study The Hand-Written Poster OVER TWO MILLION VIEWS! MANOR FARM, HULL
On Sunday 23rd March, the Manor Farm posted the photo to your left on their Facebook page. The photo is of Joe Page (Food Runner at the Manor Farm in Hull) holding a poster that reads… MY BOSS SAID IF I GET 200 LIKES I CAN HAVE APRIL 13TH OFF SO I CAN GO TO WEMBLEY! PLEASE LIKE + SHARE! #UTT CITY TILL I DIE :-) The photo received… • 400+ COMMENTS! • 2,000+ SHARES! • 53,000 LIKES! • 2.1 MILLION PHOTO VIEWS!
KIRSTY HARTLEY MANAGER @ MANOR FARM, HULL “Joe has a habit of coming up to me and asking for time off when he’s already booked a ticket for something, so this time I thought I would teach him a lesson and scare him a bit - even though I had already booked him the day off (I’m soft like that). I knew he would get a few likes with the focus on Hull City FC at the minute so I thought it would also give us the chance to get the likes up on our Facebook page. However I slightly underestimated how far it would go! 2,000,000+ photo views, 50,000+ likes, 2,000+ shares! Insane! I’ve now even volunteered to work Joe’s shift so he can be paid for it, a small price to pay from going from 400 page likes to over 1000! My advice to anyone thinking of doing the same would be to pick something local or something that people are passionate about in your area, monitor the comments coming in as mass exposure unfortunately brings the odd offensive remark so be prepared to delete anything nasty and lastly… just do it!
C M Y
I also want to give a huge shout-out and thanks to all of the team for getting behind us on this. They all shared the photo and even shared the newspaper article written about us! They did an amazing job in promoting the Manor Farm without even having to be asked. Love them all!”

TIGER
TIM!
Aside from maybe Manchester United’s slide from dominance, is there anything more entertaining in football right now than Tim Sherwood’s antics? I think not! Have a read of his Top 4 moments since taking the Hotspur reins…
SHERWOOD vs. COAT During the first-half of the North London derby, there was a break down the right-hand side of the field and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain found himself one-on-one with Hugo Lloris. As it turned out, ‘The Ox’ executed a rather useless chip that ended closer to the corner flag than the back of the net. Nevertheless, Tim had seen enough. He took his gilet coat off, threw it down the tunnel and turned to his team like a deranged bull ready to charge.
SHERWOOD vs. SAGNA Stick it to the enemy! During the second-half of the same game, the ball was launched out-wide near the dugout by Arsenal’s arrogant ponce of a keeper Wozniacki Schenzy. As Arsenal’s fullback Bacary ‘Lasagne’ went up for a header, Tim’s eyes lit up. Rolling back the years he

measured the flight of the ball, positioned himself for the take and pushed Sagna in the back. Beautiful midfield play by the, er, Manager. To cap it off, he passed the ball back to Sagna like an Americanleague baseball player delivering a deadly pitch. Don’t mess with the Tiger!
SHERWOOD vs. SOME RANDOM EUROPEAN REF Referee Antony Gautier got a mouthful from Tim after allowing FC Dnipro Dnipropsomething to waste time on a throw-in during Spurs’ last 32round Europa League match. The speech must have resonated with the ref, who went on to send off a Dnipro player and watch Spurs turn the tie on its head and qualify for the last 16.
SHERWOOD vs. JESUS Tim never shirks a challenge, as seen when he attempted to take on the Son of God. Jorge Jesus, Manager of Benfica, decided to wave three fingers in front of Tim’s face having seen his side net for a third time at White Hart Lane. Most people would just bow in the awe of the Lord Christ, but not Tim. He went face to face with Christ and put him in his place. If that wasn’t enough, he declared in his post-match press conference that he had ‘no respect for the man’. That’s some way to denounce Christianity!
