Editors Note As my husband and I were traveling, we had three connections to make to get to our destination. At each location, if you wanted to get to the next connection, you had to make the first one and so forth. Well, this particular time our second connection was delayed over three hours and thus we would miss the last connection. After a marathon through the airport, we were able talk with someone who could help us get to our final destination however it was later than we had originally planned by almost two hours. Sometimes throughout our lives we have destinations we are working to get to. We are wanting a closer relationship with Christ, we want to preach, teach, play music for The Lord, etc. We can get there but sometimes we don’t always make the first connection or that was not the intended path for us and we are detoured or rerouted. However Circumstances change our route, we still manage to get to the final destination. It’s not always how we planned it or how we expected it but we get there. And might I add there is generally a reason why we don’t make our next connection. You never know what doors might open or what people you might meet. I cannot tell you how many times I prayed to get on that next flight but it was a lot! When our name hit the cleared list, I praised God & rejoiced! My husband told me we weren’t on the plane yet...I told him I was rejoicing that we made it to the cleared list and knew it was in His hands! What relief when you know you are on your way to the next connection! What relief when you had a trial come your way and you made it through...you made it to the next step. We can rejoice and know that He is leading us! He will take care of us! Although we did make it on that flight and made it to the second city we needed to get to, because of the detour, we were not able to make it out of the last city that day. We ended up spending the night there and catching the earliest flight out. We did make it to our final destination, just on the next day. But you know, that last leg of the trip was ordained by God! We met a couple that we would have never met and that relationship is a blessing from God! So the next time you are going through something or things don’t seem to be going the way you want, make it through that situation, trial or hurdle and know there is a reason and know that you will make it to your final destination. We go through situations for reasons and they are worth it! They may be building us as individuals, there may be people that God places in our path that need to be there, you never know what God will do!

Have
you ever wondered what other people think of you? My brother told me years ago about an evangelist friend who was having his prayer time in between the church pews, when to his dismay the pastor and neighboring preacher walked into the church, (having no clue they were not alone), they began to talk. “So how good is this evangelist?”, “well”, the pastor responded, “I would have to say he is just so-so”. I think if we were evaluated more often, our performance would probably get better. Proverbs 14:23 says, “in all labor there is profit”. In everything we do, whether it be job, church, or family, we are either an asset or a liability. Jonah was called to Nineveh, and he immediately became a liability. Thanks to Gods love and mercy, and the preparation of a big fish...he soon became an asset and Nineveh was saved. God is a jealous God, in fact the word of God says his name is “jealous”. He requires our complete devotion. Mark 12:30 says that he wants all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and lets us know this was is the “first commandment”. God wants 100% from us. He told the Laodicea church that he wanted them either cold or hot....but not lukewarm! To be lukewarm, makes God sick and His response is to spew us out of his mouth. To be partially committed is a dangerous place to be in Gods eyes. Jesus tells a story about an unproductive tree, (not bearing fruit). His command was to have the tree hewn down and cast into
the fire. God DOES NOT want us to be a liability, he wants us to be an asset. The story of the three men and the talents, reveals how God feels about mediocrity and laziness. Satan wants to destroy any one that is an asset to the kingdom of God. Why do some greatly used people of God fall? Why did Davids life take a horrible turn to the path of adultery and murder? I truly believe the enemy desires to destroy God’s anointed leaders at any cost. We must protect ourselves from becoming a ‘trophy’ of satan. Samson, as great and mighty as he was, the many powerful exploits he did on behalf of the children of God, was brought down by satans devices and his own self centered desires. Our young people need to be grounded in Gods word and taught that the discipline of a daily relationship with God is so vital to sustain and protect them from falling into the lust and sensuality of this world. John 10:10 tells us that satan wants to steal, kill and destroy. He wants to turn all assets to liabilities. God is looking for you to be an asset in His kingdom. If you are close to total commitment, he wants to bring you closer to that 100%. The story of the rich young ruler shows us that one thing, can stop you from being the asset God wants you to be. The story of Mary and Martha demonstrates how important it is to “sit at Jesus feet”. You may sing in the choir, usher in the church, play an instrument, or even preach this gospel, but if you want to be an asset to the moving of Gods spirit, you MUST “sit at his feet”. If you
are a preacher, a pastor, or a saint of God, it is imperative to examine yourself to see if you are an asset or a liability. Does your district feel your support, does your church feel your support? Lets love God, love our neighbor, love one another, live a life filled with prayerful devotion, that our influence will be one of righteousness in a dark world, a light in the night! Let’s be an “asset” in the kingdom of God”.◊ ____________________________ Ted Graves is the Pastor of Apostolic Worship Center in Gresham, Oregon. Bible Quizzing By Shane Graves
We are so excited to report on Oregon’s recent
success at the NABQT (North American Bible Quiz Tournament) last month. The Oregon District and especially the Youth Department are proud of this accomplishment! Our Oregon youth are so blessed by the Bible Quiz Ministry and we would like to take this time to recognize their efforts and give honor to those who have studied hard and applied themselves to memorizing God’s Word. Oregon City went undefeated (6-0) for 1st Place in the Experienced Division. Andrew Huffman was honored as the Highest Scorer (120 pt/quiz) and the Quizzer of the Year. This trifecta (1st place team, Highest Scorer, Quizzer of the Year) is very rare. The team displayed excellent teamwork and they all received a $1000 scholarship to Urshan College! Our

Intermediate team from Palace of Praise, also did very well winning two quizzes. Congratulations to all of our quizzers! I am thankful for all of our youth who participate in Bible Quizzing. When young people memorize God’s Word, it changes their lives forever. If you are not able to participate in Bible Quizzing, I encourage you to get involved with M90. M90 is a challenge to memorize 90 verses in 90 days. There is a GYD App that has an awesome tracker to help you keep track of what you have memorized, as well as ways to help you memorize these scriptures. Young people, let’s hide God’s Word in our heart! ___________________________________________ Shane Graves is a minister at Apostolic Worship Center in Gresham, Oregon. Phillip and Linda During the Walmers’ thirty-eight years of missionary service in Brazil, they were involved in a major printing operation that translated and produced many, many tracts, books and other discipleship Brazilian woman after baptism materials in the Portuguese language. They pioneered a church in the state capital of Porto Alegre and partially supported this effort with the opening of a Christian book store. The Walmers are now entering a new phase of their missionary ministry, that of “furlough replacement.” During the time that a missionary returns to North America for furlough, the Walmers will help fill the gap they have left on the field. This much-needed ministry is a APOSTOLICblessing ACCENT September 2013 and could to the furloughing missionaries conceivably take the Walmers almost any place Certificate of appreciation from pastors around the globe.

“I Have a Dream… That Young Men Shall Catch the Vision” Thank you Oregon for allowing an old man to still dream. Thank you Brother Bigelow for your vision and dedication for seven years to the cause of Global Missions –“The Whole Gospel, To the Whole World” I have a Dream!
That every church and every saint buy into the dream that Jesus had: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations …”.
That every member finds his/her own ministry and claims his own spiritual mountain.
That every church and every saint look beyond their local need and give to Missions every month.
That every church conducts a ‘Faith Promise’ service every year.
That every church schedule at least two Global or North American Missionaries every year,
That every Missionary has at least four services in Oregon.

Does it have to take a heart Attack? By David Reynolds
12 APOSTOLIC ACCENT September 2013
Whearas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. James 4:14
A
heart attach can do wonders for your family and church relationships—if you will let it. Ten years ago while doing some cement work at my cabin I had a serious heart attack. Three weeks later my wife and I lost our ‘special’ son. Life will never be the same-ever again. Let me share a few thoughts that have been on my mind a lot these past few years. These proverbs may help you. Of course, these truths can be more personal when you experience a crisis for yourself--that is, if you survive. 1. Life is short. None of us will get out of this life alive. We all will leave—by the rapture or by the grave. Never take your life for granted. Even when the doctor tells you are in good health, he cannot guarantee it. You will not always be together as a family. 2. God is good. His mercy and love are poured out every day. His life and His work are the only things that have eternal value. 3. Every day is beautiful. Every day is special. Never take any day for granted. “This is the day that the Lord hath made, Let us rejoice and be glad in it”. 4. Things are not important— people are. Your wife is. Your children are. Friends are special. Don’t take your relationships ever for granted.
5. My wife is more beautiful. She has always been beautiful. The years have taken their toll on both of us physically but now I look through different lens. I now appreciate more and more her inner beauty and character that only years of love and care can magnify. 6. My children are wonderful and my grandkids are perfect. My Great Grandkids are the light of my old age. They all take after my wife. 7. People say such nice things. I have learned that I should also say words of appreciation before I have another heart attack. It is better than reserving them for the funeral. 8. We really do need each other. I need you. When you are independent and self reliant and then suddenly helpless you begin to appreciate all who are there for you—the ambulance drivers [you don’t even mind the large bill], the emergency crew, the Doctor and all the nurses. 9. I am learning to overlook many little things that used to bother me. I now know we are all human and we all make mistakes. It is a shame that all people do not see things as I see them now, but I have learned to be gracious and give them the right to be wrong. 10. I am now looking for ways to downsize. I do not need all the ‘stuff’ that I have accumulated. If God had called me home in the last heart attack I would not want to be one who would have to get rid of all of it. 11. By nature I am so impatient and critical with myself—I am now praying that the Lord will help me see myself as He see’s me.
Oh, that we would treat each other always the way I have been treated during my heart attach and my son’s death. I have never been treated better. God’s people may not be perfect but they are the best people on this earth. When you have faced eternity and have been given more time the colors are more vivid, the birds sing louder and common food taste better. God help me to appreciate family and friends as I now see them.◊ ____________________________ David Reynolds has been the Minister of Discipleship at Portland Pentecostals since 2007.
