Challenges, Changes & Transformation: Expecting the Unexpected Artist Inside the Art At the Oregon Country Fair site, 2014 has been a very interesting and challenging year. The winter storm last February, along with a fire in our entryway at Dragon Plaza caused us to make some changes to our plans for the year. It also led to quite a few challenges just for us to get back to our normal state of operations. Throughout these trials we have seen great opportunities for positive transformation. I believe we have risen to those challenges in a wonderful way and the amount of giving, from so many to help us get to where we are today, has been absolutely astonishing. The resilience of our site and our community has been truly life affirming. Though some of our plans have changed, we will still be bringing you many of the new things we were expecting to, such as the Flow Zone, our new StewardShip display, some large art installations and quite a few other new surprises. You will also see something new and spectacular rising from the ashes of the fire as you enter the Fair at Dragon Plaza. What won’t change is the spirit that manifests when we all gather together each July in this special place. This year the fruit of all the effort spent to bring you the best Fair ever, while responding to the unexpected, will be that much sweeter. When we collectively overcome such challenges we grow into a stronger and more tightly connected community. I am sure when you join us for the Fair, you will feel the power of that transformational spirit. As we here at the Oregon Country Fair have been learning to expect the unexpected, we invite you to join us for a celebration like no other, where you can expect to experience the power of positive transformation, in delightfully unexpected ways, around every bend in the path. Charlie Ruff, General Manager

Paying it Forward

Energy Park

The Fair is truly rooted in philanthropy with the intention of building community and helping it thrive. We have three grantmaking programs: The Bill Wooten Endowment Fund, the Jill Heiman Vision Fund and Board of Directors Donations. To learn more, wander over to Wally’s Way to visit the Galleria Philanthropia booth. The OCF has donated more than $1 million over just the last two decades.

Energy Park showcases innovatively applied technologies and ideas for the sustainable home and industry at large. Informed individuals, non-profits and commercial organizations provide expertise, knowledge and materials to provide an educational environment for all persons involved with or attending the Oregon Country Fair.

The Jill Heiman Vision Fund exemplifies the Fair’s principles of grassroots community action. The fund honors the attorney who helped the Fair become a nonprofit agency and purchase the site.

Charge Your Electric Vehicle For 2014 you can charge your electric vehicle at the Solar Trailer behind cart central. The solar trailer can only charge one vehicle at a time and is first come, first serve. There will be instructions at the charging station on how to hook up your vehicle, when it’s appropriate to unplug another vehicle and any other pertinent information. Availability of energy for vehicle charging has some limitations. Please call 541-913-8551 or 510-331-9603 for more information or technical support when on site.

Join Dr. Stan the Physics Man on Kesey Stage and other presenters to learn about the latest in organic farming, passive solar design, solar hot water and sustainable living. There are lots of new attractions in Energy Park booths and on Kesey Stage this year, from off the grid living, to wind machines and integrated solar, hydro and green building techniques.

Cash, food vouchers and check donations will be matched two-to-one by the Fair, up to $20,000. Wooden donation boxes can be found at all Info Booths. Donations are tax-deductible; include address for mailed receipt. Since 1996, the fund has donated more than $318,000. Together we are making a difference in our community. Thank you! This year, the Fair’s Bill Wooten Endowment Fund awarded a total of $14,000 to support nonprofit organizations serving youth in the Fern Ridge area. The grants tangibly represent our deep appreciation of our home community.

The Bubble—Catch it While You Can This year when you wander into Chela Mela Meadow, if you venture past the Morningwood Odditorium, you’ll be in the Bubble. The Bubble will be alive with the action-packed Flow Zone, located under the black and white shade sails. Stop by to swing poi, hula hoop or do acro yoga. Next door, you will find the StewardShip—a new showcase for the Oregon Country Fair’s sustainability projects and crew efforts to keep us green. This year we are launching a new public art program centered in the heart of the bubble. Look for a giant sea turtle and jelly fish created out of repurposed plastics; and CirceLux, a set of large wings made of dozens of unique hand quilted circles; and a mermaid named Shamana, all made by Northwest artists. The Bubble will give you a taste of what we have in mind for next year. We’re dreaming big for 2015—creating a whole new Fair experience, complete with the great food and crafts you expect and some fun that we hope will entrance, inspire and surprise you. Next year we’ll have a fabulous new Dance Pavilion—a beautiful space to dance on a hard surface with a variety of bands—or to watch some amazing dancers. Drop by the Bubble to fill in our survey and tell us the types of dance you particularly want to see here in 2015. Blues fusion? Tango? Contra? Ecstatic? Bollywood? Swing? Come on down to the Bubble--play some games, see some art, learn about the Fair, sneak a peek into the future...and just imagine what’s in store for next year!!!!

As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, the OCF relies heavily literally thousands of people. We would love to be able to thank everyone individually, but given the limits on our space and your time, here are a few individuals and businesses whose contributions over the past year have extended the Fair’s capacity to put on an event of the highest quality and develop our year-round programs. Please join us in thanking and supporting them whenever possible: Andrea Nickel for marketing and media assistance, the gang at TicketsWest; the folks at Travel Lane County; Dana Dedrick and the amazing staff at the Long Tom Watershed Council; the wonderful Eugene Weekly staff; the Kesey family and The McDonald Theatre; everyone at LTD; Pat Cross from Pacific Benefits; Kim and Jeff from JD Fulwiler Insurance; Carrie Fortier from Jones and Roth, CPA; Pat Walsh and the VOX Group; Dana’s Cheesecake Bakery; the folks from Our Daily Bread; Eugene Direct Mail Service; Sue Howe; Tom Heneghan and his fire trucks; Dillon and Inbound Northwest Linda Kerr of Go Figure; the generous folks at Groundwork Organics, Sweetleaf Farms & Deck family Farms; Jason Perry and the Honey Buckets crew; Oregon Web Press; Bob Fennessey of the WOW Hall; all the incredibly helpful staff from Key Bank in Veneta and downtown Eugene; the staff at Siuslaw Bank in Veneta;; the fine folks from Silke Communications; Jim Biggs from Quantum Telephone; Gary Nelson from Century Link; Dave D’Vanzo and the staff at Lane Electric;; and our dear friend Thom Lanfear. Special thanks to Russell Poppe our attorney; thank you for your invaluable advice, professional services and creative work on behalf of the Fair. Members of the Veneta community have worked with us since 1996 to make the event run more smoothly. This year thanks go to Mindy Sandford, Kyle Schauer and Ric Ingham from the City of Veneta; Veneta Mayor Sandra Larsen and all the Veneta City Councilors; Lane County Commissioner Jay Bozeviech; Sgt. Doug Osborne of the Lane County Sheriff’s Office; Fire Chief Terry Ney and the staff from Lane County Fire District 1; Lane County Land Management; the Fern Ridge Chamber of Commerce; And last but never least, there are literally thousands of volunteers who donate huge amounts of time and expertise to the Fair and who deserve recognition for their extraordinary generosity and commitment. From Culture Jam, to Fair Philanthropy, to our ongoing efforts to steward the Fair’s resources and promote the Fair’s vision and values in all we do, we are blessed by your generosity and creativity. We couldn’t do any of it without each and every one of you! Thank you so, so much.

THANK YOU!

on the abundance of donated time, talent and resources of
