With Change Comes Renewal – A Changing Of The Guard And Immense Gratitude I believe that we go through many seasons in our lifetimes, and today I find myself in a transition between seasons. As many of you already know, the 2015 Fair will be my last as OCF General Manager. The Fair has been the single largest presence in my life for the last 22 years and that was true long before I took on the role of paid staff member. I have grown and changed more in the 12 years that I have been on staff, than any other era of my life. The Fair has given me so much over the years, mostly in unexpected and magical ways, and for that I will be eternally grateful. For some time now, the other parts of my life have been slowly tugging at me to find a new balance for the season I am entering. I believe that a key quality to good leadership is knowing when to stay the course and when it is time to make a change, even though that change may be bittersweet and come with an uncertainty of what the future will bring. I am at a place in my journey where I can make that positive change and by doing so the opportunity for renewal and revitalization opens up for me personally as well as for the Fair. It has been the single greatest honor and privilege of my life to work with you all and to serve this truly unique and amazing community. Even after I am no longer in my staff role, I will continue to participate and serve the OCF in many, many ways. Currently, I am in the process of training our next General Manager who came on board in the beginning of June. It is my pleasure to introduce you all to Tom Gannon, who will be taking over for me at the end of the summer. As I have gotten to know Tom, I have found him to be a smart, thoughtful and a caring presence with a big heart. Tom has the experience, capacity and most importantly, that deep appreciation and understanding of this very special community, needed to lead us through this next season. Tom will bring a new perspective to the leadership that will make us even richer and deeper as an event and as an organization. I know that I will be leaving the Fair in solid shape and in good hands. You will also find a tremendous amount of exciting and positive change at the Fair this year. Our new six acre path expansion has been years in the making and is finally ready for you to come and explore. It is the biggest expansion we have ever had in a single year. We are all incredibly pleased to invite you to join us in this veritable Avant Garden of delights, featuring movement arts, large art installations, the Fair’s new dance program and of course there will be © Dennis Wiancko new food and craft booths and plenty of gorgeous open spaces. The 46th Oregon Country Fair will be bigger and better than ever! As I transition back to being a Fair volunteer, I will continue to join you in the fellowship of the spirit and surely see you along the way as we collectively walk the path of happy destiny that is the Oregon Country Fair! Opening Ceremony: Unity Child Care Child Care is a friendly, secure and enriching kid-centered Country Fair experience, welcoming children between the hours of 11:00 am and 6:00 pm for $2.00 an hour per child. We’re available 24/7 for lost kids. There are two locations: Sesame Street at the top of the Figure Eight, past Main Stage near the Ritz Sauna and New Kids on Wally’s Way at the front of the Fair near the EZGate entrance and Gypsy Caravan Stage. Both locations offer fun and stimulating activities for our young Fair-goers, including face painting, live entertainment, crafts and many other things. The White Bird Rocks Once again White Bird’s Rock Med crew provides its unique brand of medical and crisis intervention services. White Bird is the emergency response at the Fair and dispatches trained Medical & Mental Health professionals to incidents anywhere on site as needed. Services are Free & Confidential. Don’t call 911, call White Bird! We can be contacted by any staff person carrying a radio or via our internal telephone system located at most major Fair Installations like Stages, Gates and Info Booths. White Bird is centrally located next to the Main Stage with an outpost near the entrance at Odyssey Station and, new this year, a 2nd outpost is opening in the New Area to support our growing footprint and family! Basic First Aid supplies are also available at all INFO Booths. AED’s are distributed throughout the site (see the Map).

Free Fare on the Fair The OCF is purchasing the fare for the entire LTD system for the Fair weekend. You don’t need a ticket and you don’t have to be going to the Fair (although we don’t know why you wouldn’t!) in order to get a free fare on the Fair. You will need a Fair ticket or appropriate credential to access the Fair site. Make sure you have yours before you take that free ride. The LAST BUS LEAVES THE FAIR SITE AT 7:30! LTD schedules are available at the downtown station, at www.ltd.org or by calling (541) 687-5555.

Access for All Alter Able Access and Advocacy (4A) promotes equal access for all participants at OCF. 4A provides some equipment loans, sign language interpreters and other assistance as well as advocacy, education and advice. 4A is located in the Dragon’s Head at the entrance and also in Community Village.
Recycle Please The Recycling Crew, working with the Fair food vendors, are doing everything we can to eliminate plastic from the Fair. This year most of the food service ware that you will receive throughout the Fair, including beverage cups, are compostable! Please dispose of all compostable service ware in the green compost receptacles, not the red landfill receptacles. You will find collection kiosks throughout the Fair, often staffed by costumed Recyclers who will happily answer your questions. If you’re not sure what goes where, ask a Recycler!

The Fair is truly rooted in philanthropy with the intention of building community and helping it thrive. We have three grantmaking programs: The Bill Wooten Endowment Fund, the Jill Heiman Vision Fund and Board of Directors Donations. To learn more, wander over to Wally’s Way to visit the Galleria Philanthropia booth. The Jill Heiman Vision Fund exemplifies the Fair’s principles of grassroots community action. The fund honors the attorney who helped the Fair become a nonprofit agency and purchase the site. You can help! Cash, food vouchers and check donations will be matched two-to-one by the Fair, up to $20,000. Wooden donation boxes can be found at all Info Booths. Learn about food safety and plant diversity. Ag Alley showcases heirloom vegetables and flowers along with a look at the future of small farms. Energy Park has many displays and presentations on solar design, wind power and hydro power. Come learn about human powered vehicles, biodiesel and electric vehicles and speak with those who use them daily. Energy Park also provides solar cell phone charging located in the exciting new Fair loop.

Altar your Space Altared Space provides a sacred respite from the joyful cacophony of the Fair. You will discover a multicultural Sacred Altar, an opportunity to honor the elementals— Water, Earth, Air and a Fire burning bright with the unity of the Fair, a quiet wooded spot to meditate and the gift of skilled Altared Healing and Advice practitioners. Additionally, create something sacred with your hands in the Altared Craft area for kids of all ages. Located on Strawberry Lane near Shady Grove.
Raphael Schnepf: From Posters To Glass Art To Plein Air Raphael Schnepf graduated from New York’s High School of Industrial Art in ‘54 and Cooper Union Art School in N.Y. in ‘61, got a BFA degree at San Francisco Art Institute. At this time he sought out every opportunity to ply his great love for posters. After a poster for The Summer of Love got Schnepf a lot of recognition, the Family Dog commissioned the first of seven posters he was to create in ‘67 and ‘68. The recognition from this work led to commissions from major record labels for record jackets, posters and even a complete comic book. After rediscovering the airbrush he started developing a photo-real style. Schnepf ’s work is to be found in many major collections in Europe, Japan and America. The Museum of Modern Art in New York has one of his posters in the permanent design collection. In the late 70’s Schnepf began working with Savoy Studio in Eureka and later Portland, doing glass painting, especially applying paint with airbrush. His latest passion is plein air painting. Raphael will be signing posters during the Fair next to the Main Stage General Store.

Culture Jam Three weeks after the Fair, a special event takes place: Culture Jam! It happens on a portion of the Fair site called Alice’s Wonderland. For eight fun-filled days, dozens of 14-18 year olds come together with 28 inspired artists, dancers, percussionists, circus artists, naturalists and social revolutionaries to change the world! A Whole New Rainbow Rainbow Village is the FIRST ever LGBTQI hub at the Oregon Country Fair! Rainbow Village will provide education, resources, workshops, playshops, and will act as a hub to direct Fairgoers towards LGBTQI events and performances. Rainbow Village will be housed in the Peace and Justice booth, offering resources and collecting input and support for a shared community Rainbow Village vision. Volunteers will be gaily running through Fair, offering buttons to spread awareness that the space exists. Rainbow Village staff will facilitate daily workshops (see event schedule above). People often wonder where LGBTQI people congregate at the Fair. This question, combined with the powerful, personal and community transformation that happens within a “safer” container held for a group of people in need of empowerment, community support and refuge, inspired the creation of Rainbow Village. This singular space at the Fair site has undergone an incredible “meadow-morphosis” and is now ready for you to come and explore. Of course, there will also be craft booths, as well as a new food court area, featuring a mix of new, as well as longtime, Fair-favorite offerings. The WorkIt! Shop area offers a fun, safe, empowering space to explore, move and create with our bodies and voices.
