Art Number 23 ‘Athens Open Art’ Exhibition

Text for exhibition My name is Orestis, and I am a 22-year-old architecture student. I have been drawing for the last 7 years as a way to relax and reflect. Daydreaming about cloud filled cosmic landscapes has always been a big part of my life, and illustrating them has been a healing process. I often use mixed media techniques to illustrate my ideas, with watercolors and colored pencils being present in most of my drawings. As of recently I have illustrated a fantasy novel, and have been working on multiple art projects including 'Daydreaming' , 'Elsewhere' and 'From Color Fields to Dreamscapes'. The goal of my art is to transfer people experiencing it to a colorful and peaceful atmosphere where all the stress generated from everyday life is absent. "... Daydreaming is the bridge between imagining and creating."

The Holy Art Gallery ‘Eternity’ Virtual Exhibition

Text for exhibition Orestis is a 22-year-old architecture student who has been drawing for the past 7 years. The 3 artworks selected for the theme are part of a project titled ‘Cloudscapes’, which he has been working on through the autumn of 2021. The goal of the project is to recreate the rush one gets after daydreaming, which is achieved by allowing himself about an hour for each piece. The artworks are linked between them with a storyline, where firstly the character is wandering through the dream–woven landscape, eventually finding the portal to it and finally merging with the dream, becoming free to roam the Cloudscapes. As of recently Orestis has illustrated a fantasy novel, taken part in a group exhibition, and is planning his first solo exhibition.

The Holy Art Gallery ‘Young Blood’ Virtual Exhibition

Text for exhibition Orestis is a 22-year-old architecture student who has been drawing for the past 7 years. The 3 artworks selected for the theme are part of a project titled ‘Elsewhere’, the goal of which is to experiment with the concepts of scale and the sublime. It merges the city landscapes and the cosmic element, the combination of which creates compositions where the scale of the human figure, the cityscape and the cosmic element are in constant comparison. Throughout the project the technique that is used is a mix of collage and digital drawing to add textures and details. As of recently Orestis has illustrated a fantasy novel, taken part in a group exhibition, and is planning his first solo exhibition.

Myro Gallery ‘Daydreaming’ Exhibition

Text for exhibition My name is Orestis, I am 22 years old, and I have been drawing/painting for the past 7 years. This is my first solo exhibition, consisting of two pivotal projects for me, which influenced the way I paint and view composition. The first project titled ‘Daydreaming’ is a result of chronic daydreaming and the images produced in the process. I tried illustrating the process of Daydreaming and its stages, as the character gradually enters a dream-like state, which progressively takes over them. The process of daydreaming culminates in the deepest part of the dream, where there is no longer any connection with reality, with the last painting returning the character to reality. All the artworks of the project are a result of traditional painting using mixed media techniques including watercolors, colored pencils and gouache. The second project titled ‘From Color Fields to Dreamscapes’ reflects the attempt to transcribe Rothko’s Paintings to dream-woven landscapes. Usually his paintings are described as ‘Mirrors of the soul’, as they possess the ability to bring to the surface multiple emotions and memories if one observes them for a long time. The pieces of this project are the personal images that emerged while observing the color fields created by Rothko. They are a combination of childhood memories, dreamy images and thoughts illustrated through digital collages. The two projects are linked by the element of daydreaming, a process that follows me from a young age and has helped me overcome multiple daily problems. The illustration of the images that result from Daydreaming, whether it is done digitally or traditionally, are the way in which the two projects are composed. Finally, the curation of the exhibition aims to highlight the artworks in their original and printed form. With the presentation of both forms in Daydreaming, the scale in which I painted each piece is understood, while at the same time they are presented in larger dimensions (printed form) in order to highlight all the details . In the case of From Color Fields to Dreamscapes, Rothko's paintings are placed beside each piece that they inspired, to showcase the connection between the two. The curation was planned in collaboration with Marianna Rossiadou.

Art Fuze ‘Mind Infusion’ Exhibition

Text for exhibition My name is Orestis, and I am a 22-year-old architecture student. I have been drawing/painting for the past 7 years using mixed media techniques, including Watercolors, gouache and colored pencils. Lately I have been using digital painting and collage making add a new layer of depth in my pieces. Daydreaming about cloud filled cosmic landscapes has always been a big part of my life and illustrating them has been a healing process. The artworks submitted for the Mind Infuzion open call experiment with the theme of dreams and the worlds one can create while dreaming. As of recently I have illustrated a fantasy novel titled ' Skiamachos - Bound by ashes’, won 3rd place in an illustration competition, participated in four group exhibitions and had my first solo exhibition titled 'Daydreaming’. Also, in December of 2021 my artworks were featured in the artbook ‘60 Contemporary Greek Visual Artists Volume 5’. For the past two years I have been working on four projects titled ‘Daydreaming’, ‘From Colorfields to Dreamscapes’, ‘Elsewhere’ and ‘Cloudscapes’. Throughout the creation of them I have experimented with new compositions, textures, themes, color palettes and storytelling methods.

Myro Gallery ‘Novarte Project Skg’ Exhibition

Text for exhibition My name is Orestis, I am 22 years old, and I have been drawing for the past 7 years. The 12 artworks selected for Novarte Project Skg are part of my series titled Cloudscapes. The goal of the project is to recreate the feeling and the rush one has after daydreaming. This is achieved by allowing myself about an hour to finish each piece. The inspirations behind the visual style are fairytales and kid's drawings, while the story that is told throughout the project is of a character wandering in Cloudscapes.
