Cloudscapes Fragments of a Dreamer’s mind
Cloudscapes The goal of the project is to recreate the rush and the feeling one gets after daydreaming, which is achieved by allowing myself about an hour at maximum for each piece. This time limit helps me focus on the colors and shapes more, rather than get lost in the details, thus allowing me to produce more expressive artworks. The inspirations behind the visual style of the project are fairytales and the way they are illustrated along with children’s drawings. The artworks are also linked between them with a storyline, wherein ‘Cloudscape I’ through ‘Cloudscape IX’ the character is shown to wonder through the dream-woven landscapes and gradually starting to explore them. In ‘Cloudscape X’ the character finds the portal to the dreamworld/source of the cloudscapes and interacts with it, while in the final pieces the character has been merged with the dream and is free to roam the cloudscapes. Throughout the project, I tried experimenting with textures and techniques to illustrate the atmosphere I imagined for it. Most of the pieces are traditional drawings done in colored pencils, while Cloudscape VII,XI,XII,XV and XVI are digital drawings. Some are a mix of both, bringing the two techniques together and unifying the visual style of the project.
