Smart tops Opensignal ratings

LDT’s Smart Communications (“Smart”) is a clear leader in the Philippines’ consumer mobile sector, according to the Philippine Mobile Network Experience September 2019 report of Opensignal, the independent global industry analyst. Smart won accolades for Video Experience, Download Speed Experience, Upload Speed Experience, Latency Experience and drew equal for 4G Availability. The report analyzed the mobile experience of the Philippines' two national operators - Smart and Globe in the 90 days from the start of May 2019, both at a national level and across 18 regions and provinces. The analysis covered over 533 million measurements from over 190,000 devices. “In our latest look at the Philippines mobile network experience, it's pretty clear that Smart remains the operator to beat”, the report stated.

A FASTER, SMOOTHER EXPERIENCE In Metro Manila, both operators topped 86% 4G Availability, an impressive score, even by the standards of much more developed mobile cities. Smart's Latency Experience score passed the 50 milliseconds mark in Metro Manila. Latency refers to the delay users experience as data makes a round trip through the network. “Latency is becoming increasingly important to many aspects of the mobile user experience, from instant messaging and calls to video streaming and online gaming”, the report notes.

VIDEO EXPERIENCE

Smart's Video Experience score of 47.6 means its users may watch videos with reasonable load times and minimal stalling at low resolutions. Its 4G score of 57.7 means faster loading, even at high resolutions.

DOWNLOAD SPEED EXPERIENCE

Smart's Download Speed Experience across its 3G and 4G networks score of 9.4 megabits per second (“Mbps”) is fast, and in Metro Manila it is a speedy 15.2 Mbps. “These results are a testament to Smart’s commitment to continuously improve and expand our network across the country in order to support our customers’ growing appetite for mobile data,” PLDT-Smart Senior Vice President for Network Planning and Engineering, Mario G Tamayo said. <<
