Within these sectors, our mission is to unlock value by:

Delivering dividend/distribution returns to shareholders;

A Word from the Chief

To the First Pacific Family

We have quite a Christmas present this year with MPTC’s billion-dollar purchase (with Singapore’s GIC) of 35% of Trans-Jawa Tol, a collection of 13 inter-connected toll roads spanning 676 kilometres of the great island of Java, connecting dozens of cities with populations in the tens of millions. With the Indonesian economy growing among the fastest in the world, this tolled highway network has the potential of growing further from its current average of 850,000 vehicles a day.

Also in Indonesia – actually across the world – Indomie has again been crowned The Most Chosen Instant Noodle Brand in the World in the 2024 Kantar Brand Footprint Report, based on Consumer Reach Points. We are one of the biggest makers of instant noodles in the world, and demand for Indofood’s noodle dishes continues to grow fast, and will remain so for many years to come.

Turning to sustainability, you will see much coverage of ESG in this issue. MPIC has swept the top Triple P Sustainability Awards, hosted by the International Association of Business Communicators Philippines. The Triple P Awards recognize leadership in sustainability efforts; in particular, the Awards highlighted MPIC’s commitment to achieving net zero

emissions by 2050. The PLDT Group is adding more renewables to its energy mix, including geothermal, solar, and wind resources. PLDT, Smart and MPTC continue with their efforts to protect children online and offline.

Turning to the quadrennial sports fixture dear to my heart ― the Olympics ― PLDT and Smart have launched a four-part documentary “Puso in Paris 2024”, which depicts the training of Filipino athletes preparing for the Paris Games. The documentary featured Carlos Edriel Yulo’s gymnastics journey to two golds at Olympics 2024. Altogether, our Group companies support 20 National Sports Associations in the Philippines. Indofood is continuing its support to the Indonesian Football Team as the official sponsor since 2023, nurturing the growth of Indonesian football on the world stage.

As we wind down 2024 and start to celebrate Christmas, I am proud to say thank you to all our employees, partners and stakeholders for another banner year for the First Pacific Group, and for all of your labour and dedication to our goals.

God bless us all of you this Christmas season.

Maynilad applies AI to accelerate leak repairs

“Bringing down water losses is a task that we take very seriously”, reports Maynilad’s Central NRW Division Head, Engr. Ryan B Jamora.

Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (“Maynilad”) has plugged more than 28,000 pipe leaks in the first half of 2024. This brings the company’s total number of leaks repaired to 523,111 since 2007 when it inherited one of the oldest pipe networks in Asia upon re-privatization. Maynilad aims to repair a total of 50,000 pipe leaks

throughout its concession in Metro Manila and Cavite Province within 2024 - its highest-ever annual target. For 2024 alone, Maynilad allotted 791 million for active leakage control.

MILLIONS OF LITERS RECOVERED DAILY

Plugging the leaks in the first half of 2024 enabled Maynilad to recover around 198 million liters of water per day, which is enough to supply the requirements of some 198,000 water service connections.

The company deploys Infrawise AI technology to detect pipe leaks quickly and efficiently. Infrawise, which is owned and developed by Portugal-based AGS, is an AI decisionmaking software that analyzes and identifies problematic areas in the pipe network.

PROACTIVE MANAGEMENT

Maynilad began testing the applications of Infrawise AI technology in October 2023, over an area covering 1,700 kilometers of water pipelines. After the pilot run, the AI software produced a map that identified vulnerabilities over 750 kilometers of these pipelines, with 1,525 leaks subsequently being identified. The company has since expanded its monitoring to another 1,500 kilometers of pipelines.

“Through this advanced AI technology, we can proactively identify and address potential leaks in our water distribution system. This not only enables us to respond more swiftly and efficiently to pipe network issues, it also significantly enhances our ability to conserve water resources and improve service reliability for our customers,” said Maynilad Chief Operations Officer Randolph T Estrellado.

Maynilad also tapped the technology of satellite-based infrastructure intelligence company Asterra, that tracks the spectral “signature” of potable water underground. Leakage information is captured in a Geographic Information System report that specifies street locations, enabling Maynilad to fast-track its reparation process. <<
