I began with this tiger late at night as an experiment on working with multiple layers in Photoshop, I just picked a random animal from Google images which I felt had a good example of different textures.
I started by drawing the outline in rough to work from and then discarding the reference image to build the texture on top. I used Kyles Watercolour Brushes along with his Mr. Natural brush for the strokes as it is really easy to control the weighting of the strokes.
Having never used layers to build an image before in this way, the result was much more successful then I’d thought it could be at this stage. The tiger still has charm and character even though it’s totally digital. I want to keep trying these out, maybe with other animals as another image making strategy.
