Oro Valley wins 6th Playful City USA designation

Now through August 26, it only costs $5 to bring the entire family (up to six people) to the Oro Valley Aquatic Center on Friday nights, 6 – 8 p.m. There are amenities for all ages, including a splash pad, giant water slide, diving boards, recreation pool and Olympic-sized pool. Please note: Due to swim meets, the recreation and Olympic pool will be closed to the public, and only the splash pad and water slide will be open on the following dates: June 3, June 17, July 15.

The Town of Oro Valley has earned the “Playful City USA” designation from national non-profit KaBOOM! Playful City USA, presented by The Humana Foundation, is a national program advocating for local policies that increase play opportunities for children and is a key platform in combating the play deficit. This is Oro Valley’s sixth year receiving this designation (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015).

Business Spotlight: Fleet Feet Sports By Dave Perry, President/CEO of the Greater Oro Valley Chamber of Commerce Anne Stancil earned a Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin. Soon, though, she realized “being a professional academic was not where my heart was, not where my passion was.” Her heart, her passion were in her feet. A runner, she worked part-time at a Fleet Feet Sports store in Madison, helping people find just the right running and walking footwear. “I had no idea … how much you could impact someone with something as simple as fitting them with a good pair of shoes,” Anne says. “I love it.” Today, she owns Fleet Feet Sports in Oro Valley, which specializes in optimal footwear fits. Clothing, accessories and a passionate staff take clients to the finish line. “We provide a superior customer experience,” a proud Anne said. “Our staff is educated and knowledgeable. They know our products, and how to use them.” Owning the business has cut into Anne’s running time. But it… fits. “It doesn’t feel like work. I feel very, very lucky.” 7607 N.
