THE MONEY ISSUE
We all know that the cost of soccer in America is rising.
Fields are at a premium, as well as indoor facilities and futsal courts. If you want a pair of top-of-theline cleats you’re going to pay over $300 for them. Uniforms costs more and more, and so do the fees for other aspects.
A year of soccer can cost in excess of $1600 now at the competitive level and even most recreational clubs are closer to $100 than they have ever been.
Here at OYSA our fees went up for the first time in over a decade. It’s the price of doing business.
What can you do? What can your club do? How are you going to be able to afford soccer in the future? That’s what this issue is all about.
While we can debate ad nauseam the reasons the cost is rising, we can also show you some fixes. The debate will always exist about how much soccer costs.
We want to show you some fixes to help achieve financial solvency. To help get your child on the field without needing a second mortgage. We’re showing you the grants that have become available to soccer players, families, and clubs here in Oregon.
If you see something that interests you, in most cases the contact information is right there, but send it to your club’s Treasurer, or Executive Director. If you have other questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to us here at OYSA and get the information you need.
THE MONEY ISSUE
We want kids to get out and play before, during and after school. Regular physical activity for kids is essential for healthy development. Involvement in sports has been shown to improve academic performance, resiliency and resourcefulness.
KIDS in the GAME partners with foundations, community groups, schools and corporations to fund sports participation for individual kids and to finance programs that get kids moving. We work within schools and community structures that are already in place so the money goes furthest.
Here’s how KIDS in the GAME can help young people in your area or your household gain access to youth sports.
THE MONEY ISSUE

The LIDS Sports Group, operating within Hat World, Inc., is comprised of the LIDS retail headwear stores, the LIDS Locker Room specialty fan retail chain, the LIDS Clubhouse retail stores, the LIDS Team Sports wholesale team sports business and the Internet businesses. Operating out of Indianapolis, Indiana, the retail businesses make up more than 1,000 mall-based, airport, street level and factory outlet locations nationwide, and in Canada and Puerto Rico. LIDS retail stores offer officially licensed and branded headwear of collegiate teams, major professional sports teams, as well as other specialty fashion categories in the latest styles and colors.
The idea of charity is not a new one within the LIDS Sports Group family. In fact, the development of the LIDS Foundation was a natural extension of what many of the Company’s employees were already doing: giving back to their local communities and helping to support those in need. Through this charitable arm of LIDS Sports Group, employees now have the ability to pool together their resources on a greater scale to create synergies that will make an even more significant impact.
THE MONEY ISSUE
The Nike Community Impact Fund was established at The Oregon Community Foundation in 2010 to benefit communities where Nike employees live, work and play. Through this fund, Nike employees work with OCF to award at least $550,000 per year to nonprofits and schools in the Metropolitan Portland region and in Southwest Washington.
Nike believes in the power of sport to change the world. We know that sport is inspiring and unifying, and creates opportunities for individuals and communities to realize their full potential.
The Nike Community Impact Fund (NCIF) takes a collaborative approach to grant making by partnering with Nike employees to participate in the grantmaking process and directly impact the local communities where they live and work.
NCIF helps local organizations bring the benefits of sport to their communities, giving kids an opportunity to enjoy the benefits of quality play and active lives, and creating stronger communities where sports and physical activity are a highly-valued part of everyday life.
Emphasis is placed on inclusive programs that serve underrepresented populations.
o 80 percent of grant awards support projects that promote sport and physical activity in the community (about 40 grants per year).
o 20 percent of grant awards support organizations and projects that address community challenges through innovative community-based solutions (about 10 grants per year).

DICK'S SPORTING GOODS AND THE DICK'S SPORTING GOODS FOUNDATION BELIEVE EVERY YOUNG PERSON SHOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BENEFIT FROM SPORTS.
Through our Sports Matter program, we turn our belief into action by supporting youth athletic programs in communities across the country.
All youth sports teams are welcome to apply for funding through the DICK'S Sporting Goods' Sponsorships & Donations program.
Public and public charter school teams also have the opportunity to submit a Sports Matter crowdfunding project through DonorsChoose.org, a renowned crowdfunding website and the largest supporting students and schools.
For a limited time, the DICK'S Sporting Goods Foundation will fund the project once donors fund the first half on eligible team sports projects. DonorsChoose.org engages its community of donors in the funding challenges facing public schools by giving people a simple, accountable, and personal way to help students. Our partnership with DonorsChoose.org will connect teams with thousands of donors across the country who share in our unwavering belief that Sports Matter. Through DonorsChoose.org, public and public charter school teams can create projects to support their team operations, including equipment, facility rental, transportation, lodging, pay to play or team registration fees, and sports camp registration fees.

Twenty years ago, some passionate local members of the ski community, came together to provide snow opportunities to members of the community with disabilities. Today, Oregon Adaptive Sports (OAS) is the premiere adaptive sports organization in the Pacific Northwest providing a range of yearround programs.
Oregon Adaptive Sports offers year-round outdoor recreation programs for individuals with disabilities. Our programs are designed to accommodate a wide range of populations with different skill levels from never-evers to elite athletes.

The Portland Timbers Community Fund (PTCF), an advised fund of the Oregon Community Foundation, supports charitable, non-profit organizations that are registered as a 501(c)(3) with tax-exempt status from the IRS and are located within one of the four surrounding counties of the Portland metro area; Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, and Clark County in SW Washington.
Grant seeking organizations must fall under one of the following areas of focus:
• Youth Education: an emphasis on all students reading at their grade levels, as well as STEM programming
• Youth Health & Wellness: an emphasis on soccer and inclusiveness, embracing all ability levels
• Environment: an emphasis on building awareness and activism through growing the greenbelt and gardens within city limits
THE MONEY ISSUE
You use them every day. They’re at your fingertips when you want to know your son or daughter’s schedule, and you have them imbedded into your Calendar feature on your mobile device.
Scheduling apps are extremely common now, and a lifesaver for any parent on-thego. Did you know though that many of them offer advertising incentives for clubs? Team App is one we’re familiar with (although there are many more!) and it allows a club/team/player to go to local businesses and sell ad space to them (very easily) so that they can generate business. Your club earns money for that.
Local pizza parlor wants to advertise to 1,000 kids locally? No brainer. Have their ad appear on a Saturday (or time of their choosing) that offers a free slice with a purchase of another…directly to the club members, all the while giving you powerful scheduling software at your fingertips.
CORNER WESTERN CONFERENCE CHAOS
1Y THE NUMBERS:
It’s ridiculous how close the Western Conference is with one games to go. While the
14-11–8 record
Eastern Conference has all six of it’s playoff teams already decided, the west only has the
58 goals for
Whitecaps as going through. The other 5 can be selected from a staggering 8 teams and it’s all to play for. The Timbers are in already, but there is so much to play for. A win vs. the Whitecaps seals the deal, and first place! So stay tuned. This is going be a wild last game.
49 goals against 62,468 miles travelled this season so far for away games (round trip) Top scorer - Valeri (20 goals)
