Sin suerte para el Magic

La mayor ilusión para los fanáticos del Orlando Magic en mucho tiempo se desplomó anoche, y todo fue por mala fortuna. Orlando tenía, junto a Houston y Detroit, la mayor probabilidad de obtener la selección global #1 con 14%. Solo los primeros 4 picks son rifados, lo cual indica que lo máximo a lo que podía caer el Magic era al lugar 5.

Sin embargo, sucedió el peor escenario posible y el Magic no podrá seleccionar en ninguno de los primeros 4 picks.

En su lugar, la selección #1 irá a los Detroit Pistons, quienes seguramente elegirán a Cade Cunningham de la universidad de Oklahoma State. El segundo pick le tocó a los Houston Rockets y el tercero a los Cleveland Cavaliers, quienes se predice que tomarán ya sea a Evan Mobley de USC, Jalen Green de las ligas menores, o a Jalen Suggs de Gonzaga, sobrino de Terrell Suggs, exjugador de la NFL.

La cuarta selección será para los Toronto Raptors, quienes tenían solo 7.5% de probabilidad de la primera selección, a diferencia del 14% del Magic. De hecho, Orlando tenía un 52.1% de posibilidad de terminar entre los primeros 4, y aún así cayó al lu-gar más bajo posible.

La "buena" noticia es que Orlando podrá escoger por 2º ocasión poco después, ya que el 8º pick, originalmente de los Chicago Bulls, pertenece al Magic por el intercambio que hicieron por Nikola Vucevic a principios de este año.

Los "mock drafts" tempraneros ubican al Magic tomando a los aleros Jonathan Kuminga con la selección 5 y Franz Wagner con la 8. El problema está además en que Orlando actualmente no tiene entrenador, tras darle las gracias a Steve Clifford semanas atrás. Jason Kidd es uno de los candidatos, pero nada está definido para esta franquicia en reconstrucción permanente.

El draft 2021 de la NBA será el 29 de julio. Orlando tiene suficiente tiempo para meditar su complicada situación. ¿Canjear sus dos selecciones y subir al top 3? ¿Cambiar alguna por un jugador probado? ¿Tomar más jugadores esperando que un día sean superestrellas?

Esta amarga noticia viene en medio de un día por lo general alegre para los deportes en Florida Central. Orlando City venció 5-0 a San José Earthquakes la noche del martes. El Lightning está a un juego de llegar a las Stanley Cup Finals tras vencer 8-0 a los Islanders el lunes por la noche. The biggest illusion for Orlando Magic fans in a long while collapsed last Tuesday, and it was all due to sheer bad luck. Orlando had, along with Houston and Detroit, the highest chance of landing the #1 overall pick at 14%. Only the first 4 picks are raffled, which indicates that the most the Magic could fall to was 5th. However, the worst possible scenario happened, and the Magic won’t be able to select in any of the first 4 picks. Instead, the #1 pick will go to the Detroit Pistons, who will likely pick Cade Cunningham from Oklahoma State University. The second pick went to the Houston Rockets and the third to the Cleveland Cavaliers, who are predicted to take either Evan Mobley of USC, Jalen Green of the little leagues, or Jalen Suggs of Gonzaga, nephew of Terrell Suggs, former NFL player. The fourth pick will go to the Toronto Raptors, who had only a 7.5% chance of the first pick, as opposed to the Magic's 14%. In fact, Orlando had a 52.1% chance of finishing in the top 4, yet still fell to the lowest possible spot. The "good" news is that Orlando will get a second pick soon after, as the 8th pick, originally with the Chicago Bulls, belongs to the Magic because of the trade they made for Nikola Vucevic earlier this year. Early mock drafts see the Magic taking forward Jonathan Kuminga with the No. 5 and Franz Wagner with No. 8. The problem is also that Orlando currently has no coach, after letting go of Steve Clifford weeks ago. Jason Kidd is one of the candidates, but nothing is set for this permanently rebuilding franchise. The 2021 NBA draft will be on July 29. Orlando has plenty of time to ponder its difficult situation. The Orlando Magic is the only “unworthy” team of Central Florida, and not even luck is on their side.
